Sachin Tendulkar, the Indian captain rips apart the West Indian bowling attack consisting of Curtly Ambrose, Mervyn Dillon ,Franklyn Rose and others at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown Barbados during the 3rd test in 1997.
He played so many such inning--- 40s to 90s--- that nobody remembers. A 70-odd score was counted as a good innings for other batsmen but for Sachin that usually went under the 'failures' column.
most importantly opposition knew (even entire India believed if anyone gonna do it for team India it's gonna be Sachin) so they used their best bowler statergy to negate him, not only cricket but in all sports (even individual sports) very few have played game with so much of expectation

I remember the reaction from news paper about the no ball dismissal of Tendulkar on next day. It's just because of poor umpiring the Master-Blaster missed a ton against an excellent fast bowling attack such a live pitch.
Sachin's good days when he played back foot with ease...just 10 tests! He was just ordinary! hyped by BCCI to promote cricket and money behind it! today it works on just flat pitches ONLY.
Franklin Rose, i remember the nightmare :D i dont know why Dhillon played more games than Rose :) I use to hate him when I was kid because he use to take so many Indian wickets lol
And funnest part is some people compare players with Tendulkar. To be frank, sachin's replay cricket is more enjoyable than today's live cricket match.

Just to put things into perspective, Tendulkar got these 92 (30% of the opposition's total score, 43% of team score at the time of dismissal, 54% of the partnership) memorable runs against a bowling attack consisting of 3 fast bowlers Curtly Ambrose, Dillon, Ian Bishop who are more than 6 feet 1 inch tall on a slightly bouncy track, with breathtaking backfoot play and supreme front-foot game at a wonderful strike rate of 63. Such an amazing display of cricketing shots to be given out on a no-ball, is nothing short of crying shame. For what it is worth, this was a century gone begging. This was a batting performance of very highest order. "Cricket Experts" hail IPL innings as magic; T20 as a competitive format. Today, the pitches are batting paradise, bats are better than ever, grounds are smaller than ever, swing and reverse swing are out of the equation. R.I.P. quality cricket. P.S : Thanks Suhass997 for sharing this gorgeous innings of a master batsman at the crest of his powers. I had watched this innings live on TV wondering how can a batsman be so good in his backfoot play.
RIP to quality in general, not only cricket. As someone who was born in the late 80s I experienced some quality stuffs in my life, and now seeing them completely demolished hurts me so much that I feel like I should just end things here. Should have been born in the late 2000s, so would never know what quality stuffs are. It's the social media era, where one needs to be a prostitute and you are famous.

Being a Pakistani, I consider that Sachin Tendulkar is best ever Batsman of 150 years history of cricket. I disagree with the statement of sir Don Bradman that Tendulkar plays like him, I think Don Bradman played like Sachin. I have seen the videos of Don Bradman's batting and great Tendulkar was far better than him. Don Bradman faced very ordinary bowlers but Tendulkar faced the highest ranked bowlers of the history of cricket. He faced Waseem, Waqar, Shoaib, Bret Lee, Alen Donald, Bishop, Ambrose, Walsh and Mc Grath. He scored centuries against these giants. He showed his class in fast and bouncy pitches against bowling like rockets.
This happens in every sport and I think you cannot compare players from different era. No matter where and when you played having an average of 99.96 speaks for itself. Same goes the other way around have more than 30K runs in international cricket no matter where and whom you played is just awesome.
Bradman never played the dust bowls of India /Pakistan... never even faced reverse swing, never faced bowlers like kumble in India with spitting cobra bounce off the pitch (overspin), never faced spinners of caliber of warne Murali saqlain. The only great spinner he faced was Verity and bradmans record against him was apalling. Bradman only ever made his runs in a few venues in 2 or 3 countries.. Imagine if Tendulkar played only in India and Australia for his whole career.. where would his average be?
What sets Bradman apart from all others from any era has nothing to do with quality of bowlers he faced or didn't face, variety of conditions or not even covered versus uncovered pitches. What sets Bradman apart is two things: 1. Statistically, he was nearly twice as good as the next best of any era, whether his own, previous or subsquent (eras). Walter Hammond, first to 7000 test runs, played during Bradman's era and averaged 58. Gary Sobers, first to 8000 test runs, played in the era immediately after Bradman's and averaged 57. Steve Smith's career is only half over and he is averaging 61. And the great names among batsmen from Bradman to Smith could go on and on ... the point is, no other player has been so statistically superior to his or her peers in any other era of any other sport. Bradman's average of 99 is roughly the equivalent of Michael Jordan averaging 59 points per game in America's NBL. Did Bradman actually play better in his best innings than Viv Richards or Ricky Ponting did in their best innings (just to name two examples)? No he didn't. Would Bradman have averaged 99 any time from about 1970 onwards? Probably not. However, would any post 1970 batsman have averaged anywhere near 99 playing in Bradman's era? We will never know, but I think also probably not. The other thing that sets Bradman apart from all others - and this is entirely related to point 1 in the previous paragraph - was his conversion rate once reaching 50. He played 80 test innings (10 of them not out) and scored centuries in 29 of them and more than 50 in 41 of them - in other words he reached 50 every 2nd innings. No other batsman has done that at any level, never mind test cricket. Even including the 12 times he was dismissed between 50 and 100, the 51 test innings where he didn't score a century his average was a rather ordinary 33. I would expect players who have retired with a career average of more than 50 to have a similar average for non-century innings in test matches, if for no other reason that they have a higher proportion of non-century innings being dismissed in that phase between 50 and 100 though someone would have to do a lot of research to either prove or disprove this premise. Mark Waugh, for example, scored 20 test tons in 209 innings (17 of them not out) and his average in the 189 innings he didn't make a ton was 32. His overall career average was 42, but in the 20 innings when he scored a ton, his average was 151, compared to Bradman's massive average of 245 in the 29 test innings that he scored a ton. However, look at what happened in innings when Bradman reached 50 - as stated above every 2nd test innings (Mark Waugh, for example, reached a half century every 3rd test innings, but a ton only every 10 innings): in 29 of these 41 occasions he converted to a century or 70%. Any other batsman in the history of the game has been marvelled at with a 50 to century conversion rate of even 50%. But in the 29 innings when Bradman reached 100, on 17 occasions, he continued on to 150 which is a 100 to 150 conversion rate of 59%. I think we can safely say that few other batsman have achieved anywhere near this. But the trend continues: His conversion rate from 150 to 200 was 70% or 12 of 17 occasions. On the 12 occasions he reached a test double ton, he continued past 240 on 5 occasions, which is a 40% conversion rate. And on the 4 occasions he passed 250, he converted 2 of these to triples, although it was virtually 3 given that on one occasion he was left stranded on 299 not out when a number 11 ran himself out in a test in adelaide against south africa in 1931-32. So he also has a 250 to 300 conversion rate of virtually 70%. In terms of smashing bowlers all over the park, many players have matched Bradman, some have even exceeded him. But noone has come even remotely close to emulating his phenomenal conversion rates once reaching 50. The assumption can be made that when Bradman reached 100, the pitch was good for batting on, and in these conditions he just refused to allow the bowlers to get him out, while still motoring along at similar rates to the likes of Tendulkar and Ponting and Lara in modern times in terms of strike rates or runs scored per every 100 balls faced. Educated estimates have Bradman's test strike rate of 61 runs per 100 balls faced. This is roughly the same as Ponting, Lara, Tendulkar, Kohli and Smith, slightly lower than Viv Richards, Kevin Pietersen and Matthew Hayden, and much lower than Virender Sehway (75) and Adam Gilchrist (84). All of these modern players averaged between 47 and 61 (runs per innings), bearing in mind that Smith and Kohli's careers are only about half over, meaning both their final average runs per innings and strike rates of runs per 100 balls faced may, from this point go up or down compared to where they sit now. Interestingly, as far as I am aware, Bradman was never dismissed in the 90s in test cricket, even though the laws of mathematical probability say that 20% of innings between 50 and 100 should logically terminate in the 90s, rather than necessarily having anything to do the 'nervous 90s. Michael Slater was dismissed in the 90s on 9 of the 21 occasions he was out between 50 and 100, so this is clearly a shocking case of the nervous 90s syndrome. Steve Waugh holds the record for most scores of between 90 and 100 in test cricket, with 10 times. However, this is not as dubious a record as some might - quite understandably - automatically think. For a start, 2 of those occasions he was left stranded not out when his side was bowled out, and on another occasion, he was wrongly adjudged run out with the umpire strangely not going to the video replay which showed that the bowler had not even legitimately broken the stumps with the ball. Waugh played 168 tests, 260 innings, scored 32 centuries and had 50 scores between 50 and 100, so 10 into 50 is precisely the aforementioned mathematical probability of 20%. And his conversion rate for 50s into 100s of 39% is pretty standard for most great players.
Another 8 runs and this would be one of the ten best Test centuries by the legend. Some of the shots are just breathtaking. This was Sachin at his peak.

Kudos to the man at 5:58 who came onto the pitch to give respect to Sachin sir for his 50. History was made as this was The first time the Indian flag is seen on the pitch in the West Indies.
This is in general story of Indian cricket in 90's... this match too, India managed to loose even being in such a strong position like 212/3 chasing 298.... which highlights how useless were indian batsmen in 90's & how much dependent Indian batting was on sachin... highlighting what a genius sachin was!!! Carrying the burden of entire batting of 90's team....singlehandedly!
Nope you are half wrong.... This is the first innings of india and in 2nd innings india had to chase 120 runs which is not big issue but the team destroyed against walsh-ambrose and could make only 75 around runs .... What a shame that batting line up was
I fear the quality of Cricket has declined a lot now. Especially , the bowling and due to this it is easier for world Class Batsmen like Virat Kohli , Joe Root etc. to pile on runs.
Pitches have become shit. Bowlers have lost their respect thanks to t20. Batsmen bat with trunks in their hands and not bats these days. Grounds' size have decreased.
Have to say after having followed his career till the day he retired Tendulkar was really unlucky with umpiring decisions..some of the decisions in those days cost India the match and the series..eg this no ball which was clearly overlooked by the West Indies umpire in the context of the match was critical as in the end India failed to chase 120 runs in the 4th innings which cost India the match and series..had this no ball been given Tendulkar would have definitely crossed a hundred and may be India wouldn't have had to chase any score in the 4th innings and won the match and series.. eventually India lost the series 0-1 which again raised questions on Tendulkar's captaincy...there are numerous such egs of how unlucky he was in his career and captaincy
Many such situations.. But still some pple cry tendulkar failed to finish. What the hell orher 8 batdmen ate doing.. You wsbt him to hit all the remaiingng 87 runs too? In chennai against pakstan 17 runs 6 bstdmen couldnt take.. Against australi in ODI he hit 175 and in chase and remaing 5 ba5smen couldnt take 16 runs.. Actually team india made him fail many times.. 70% of his career he played with avg team who lose after he gets out 90% time.. Kohli or Rohit is not in tjat situation..
If I remember correctly..this was the first test series( two or more test) wherein sachin did not get a hundred...what time it was to be a cricket fan..Pure joy to watch sachin Bat. Even his 30's n 40's at times looked Colossal.
I have watched many great players batting... Haven't seen anyone play the backfoot drive as good as the little master... Tendulkar... That backfoot shot of dillon was something special. This innings was a great one... Sorry, he couldn't get a hundred.
cant say that because he played wonderfully well in english conditions and most of the times had them on the mat. Just like gavaskar had WI when he toured WI. But he was not known to graft and grind. once he was set he just loved to score. And don lost 7 to 8 of prime years due to world war 2. could you imagine how many he would have scored otherwise? Larwood was seriously fast and he did well on that tour( not 100 but still cracked 2 centuries). So surely he could play all-right in testing conditions.

Every day is blessing yes Many didnt Cooperate he was given a Shabby team Fixers like Azar wanted his failure Even RSA triangular series indians Came close to winning but due to the rain rule they got a higher target losing by 17 runs
Tendulkar was called one man army during this period. He faced toughest bowlers ever n still played glorious, charismatic innings which will always remain among the best in the business. If you research, you will find that during Bradman era there were hardly few bowlers who were considered to be devestating. Therefore, yes Sachin Tendulkar is actually the best batsman n plz don't bring in Virat Kohli bcoz he is still in learning process n not better than Brian Lara yet. 😀
With all due respect, the other man on the non striking end had always been a wonderful support when partnerships mattered back in the 90's. Though the video is all about Sachin's class, I can't help mentioning Rahul's contribution to Indian Cricket back then❤😊
Azharuddin's team of the 90s had Sachin Tendulkar and 10 support staff who used to travel to watch him play from inside the cricket ground. Until Sourav and Dravid came along..
The best batsman cricket ever produced (haven’t seen Bradman). Absolutely text book, each and every shot looks 100% measure, great batsman great record against quality of Ambrose, Wishop, Walse averaging 60 against them. 20 centuries against Australia 12 in winning cause which Lara scored total against Australia. Overall 32 centuries and 44 fifties against Australia and South Africa, two of the best bowling attack of that era. What a day for cricket.
I remember as a kid I saw this match in Mahabaleshwar where my family was on on a vacation !. I started watching cricket in 1992 and saw Tendulkar bat for the whole of his career. After he retired I lost interest in watching cricket because after watching Tendulkar bat…. No other batsman post his retirement matches upto him. I feel people of my generation were lucky they got to see batsmen like Tendulkar, Ganguly, Lara, Inzamam, Anwar, Waugh brothers, Ponting, Aravinda, Jayasuriya, Sehwag and Laxman bat ! Young People watching cricket today don’t realise what they are missing !
There are many great batsman who played in those times as well such graham gooch Vic Richards Steve Waugh Ricky pointing Brian Lara and many more but when these batsman came to bat against West Indies in the olden cricket these batsman are struggling to even get into double figures . But this 23 year old sensation at that time scored nearly a hundred . What a legend
This video shows unmatched class.. and unmatched class of the commentators of the time.. this video is studded with too many strokes that 99% of international batsmen in any era won't be able to play.. the on the up backfoot cover drive is Sachin signature to behold.. and on this kind of a track and strategy, there are not many vertical bat shots.. it's unusual to not have a straight drive in Sachin 50+ inns, but such was his repertoire

Show me any other batsman in cricket history who has scored 50 or more in 6 different ODI knockouts alongwith scoring consistently till SEMIS of 3 different ODI World Cups, show me anyone who has done this 🙄😊 For the uninformed ones, only "same year peak phase players" can be compared, if at all anyone is so desperate for comparison. So, all players like Lee Mcgrath and many more with peaks since 1999 till 2009 or so can't be compared to Sachin, due to dissimilar peak year phases with Sachin's best phase from 1990-91 till 1998. So if you're absolutely desperate for comparison, then compare the same era peak phase players like Sachin against DamienFleming Murali Warne Wasim Waqar and many other best players since 1990-91 till 1998. By the way, no player ever has consistently performed well and made the team win individually by his own efforts in every single match including Final of ODI World Cup, even Gilly Ponting etc. haven't performed in every game of any World Cup consistently from 1st match till Final. So, better understand that other players in team MUST perform with atleast half consistency in most games in World Cup, which real culprits like 1996 Azhar Prabhakar Kambli Manjrekar, 1999 Azhar Mongia etc. and 2003 Dravid Yuvi Kaif Ganguly DineshMongia etc. have never showed ever in any World Cup. 🙄☹️ Same applies when Kohli alone (or any other consistent runscorer) is targeted instead of other real culprits 🙄 And for desperate comparison-obsessed nitpickers, Sachin peak years is from 1990-91 till 1998, whereas Mcgrath peak years is from 1999 till 2007. So just check Mcgrath performance in the peak years of Sachin to know how injury-free Sachin tackled Mcgrath easily. Check how much Sachin has scored in WC1996 vs Australia where even Mcgrath wasn't effective to dismiss him early 😊🙄 Preferably never compare, but enjoy the sport. 😊 Cheers & bye.
