Getting a HTC Vive would actually force me to keep my room clean so I could move around. Is it worth it?

It's funny that people mention it, but my brother had to finally clean his room for the HTC VIVE. PC GAMING does make you a better person afterall :P He made his room like from 1 to a 100 on the clean scale. It is quite impressive what you can do, when you are properly motivated by video games : )

*A brief look 10 years into the future:* May 2026. VR has replaced regular monitors in the gaming scene. Nvidia's new GTX 1680 makes 8K VR performance available for $300. Gamers now live a healthier life than most other persons and are considered athletes. VR gaming is making its way into the Olympic Games.

I think this is actually an effective way of getting people off the couch and exercising a bit. I know that whole idea was around with the Nintendo Wii, but come on you still sat on the couch and half assed Wii Sports. With this you're gonna have to actually move around and enjoy it!

Had my Vive for 2 weeks now.... it's incredible. A piece of tech that totally amazes anyone of any age, gender or interests, is definitely worth the hype. Everyone Ive demo'd it to goes through the same experience - from total skepticism to being 'blown away' as soon as they take their first step in VR. Good job Valve and HTC. EDIT: Though I share almost every opinion with Luke, I think his conclusion is a little off. If you're interested in VR and have the cash, then you should totally go for it. Early adopters are the ones that will shape the future of VR for everyone. If no one buys now, then all the people who choose to wait, will end up waiting for something that won't exist.

It's funny how quickly another product can overshadow another. I've been following the rift since kickstarter back in (2010..?), and for 5 years that was the only name associated with VR at all. Than last minute, the Vive was announced and released. Than all of a sudden, nobody even mentions the Rift anymore. The product that's been feeding the VR hype for 5+ years just disappeared :p

"It's a lot of money." Damn right it's a lot of money. I'm about to spend $800-900 on a GTX 1080 so my PC is VR ready, just to save up another $1,200 CAD to buy the Vive. Shit be crazy.

How far the Vive's cable can handle signal? Personally, it think, that it would be a good idea, to have the cable attached to ceiling and having some kind of lite tension mechanism, to avoid too much slack. This way, it could be used by a single person, without other guiding cables. Only drawback to this idea would be, that bigger play area you want to have - the higher ceiling would have...

My problem with the vive is that most of the games I've seen for it are rail shooters. Yes, the ability to move around is more immersive, but it's also more limiting because while you can move, you also really can't move further than those 15 feet

I am a proud owner of a Vive. I was a die hard Oculus fan, that is until a debacle with Amazon. I canceled my preorder because Amazon put a small number of Rifts up for sale, I thought I got one, I was beyond excited, it was going to be shipped next day air. What happened? Oculus promised X amount and delivered Y... and yes Y was half of X. I lost my cool with Oculus, and came to the realization it is crazy to get upset about spending my cash. I talked to HTC and got a previous preorder set back up and unbelievably got my Vive the very next week. I have checked out the Oculus CV1 at a Best Buy demo. It was indeed cool. Light as a feather. I was not blown away. "The Climb" was horrible, it felt awkward at best. The other demos were only interesting, nothing that made me say wow. After I set up the Vive and played 2 hours in Vanishing Realms.... wow, I was blown away. AMAZING. Vive wins with room scale, the rest is about the same. Curious to see what Oculus does from here. They have upset a large core of early adopters.

I live in a decently sized apartment... but I actually have furniture in here and I would probably have to move quite a bit of that to even make a 3m x 2m spot for gaming with the Vive. I'm also not certain at all whether I'd want something like the Vive with a cable attached to it. Is the cable an issue when you play a game, i.e. does it get in the way?

Just go there, book a free 15min Trip as there might be a queue and stroll the other areas until it's your turn. You get to see theBlue: Encounter / Job Simulator ( Office? ) / Tilt Brush / Space Pirate Trainer

Well I bought the Vive, it came about 1 months after and I have been playing it for almost a week straight. Its pretty good even though there are some downsides to it (Oculus has the same problems). The main problem is people, we all know them, the ones that think graphics are the beat all solution and looking at the high PC specs and seeing the lower res in the screens (Both on the Vive and Oculus) you hear them complain about needed 4k, just clear enough. Ok, where is the CPU/GPU combo that can run that right now?These are the best we are going to get for a while, till better CPU/GPUs come out. Even the new GTX1080 still wont be able to push 4k video to these types of headsets.Plus once you get into the game, you forget all about that stuff. I have found myself (and friends) trying to put their hands on counter, walls, etc that aren't there. Now that is immersion...-

PLEASE HELP! my vive whenever I click the controllers system button it makes one controller get stuck and stop tracking and about half the time the headset does to. Anyone have a fix

Like motion controls, 3D TV's ,VR is just a gimmick that will die out fast.What all players want foremost is comfort.

as some one who is only interested in the seated vr experience(for Games like elite dangerous and star citizen) , is the HTC vive an option to consider, or is the occlus rift the best option?

I do wonder about the tether. Would a high bandwidth wireless link like 60GHZ Ultra Wideband not have provided a low enough latency link, or provided enough bandwidth? Not having to have a Tether Caddy would be a big plus for me.

One of my profs this semester said that he is working (and has already gotten grants for) making a VR lab for the Uni. Sounds epic, and I can't wait until I can try VR for my first time.

Should I buy one? No. Will I buy one anyway? Probably.

I love the vive. If you tried it then you realize its a brand new experience that can really make you feel you're in another world. Monitor games don't even feel the same anymore.

Can you do should you switch from psvr to the vive?

Can you mount the IR transmitters in the roof? I don't really have any other option as I'm sort of limited with respect to floor space.

Having now owned one for a few months, I'd say hell yes if you want the FULL VR experience

I got me an HTC Vive a few weeks ago. It is really really fun and it was worth the time and money to me personally, but it is definitely only worth it if you're passionate about VR and being one of the first to have it.

the valve index is coming out in a couple of days so im buying a 2nd hand vive to use the base stations and im soooo exited
