Yes, a nice presentation, with more than just observations. I have had my Huawei GT 2 Pro since 30 January - only three weeks - I am very happy with it to the extent that I bought my wife the GT2 a week ago and she is pleased with everything so far. I believe it is not so important about its accuracy but its consistency. What we are looking for, I think, are patterns of our activities, heart rate etc that allow us to understand ourselves and to make adjustments as we feel necessary to progress towards our goals. One thing I have discovered, is that light sleep is sometimes interpreted from stillness and eyes closed but not what I would call actually asleep. I am not concerned about this - other aspects of my sleep patterns are in the normal range. I am a cyclist and at the same time as wearing my watch, I have a separate app that measures, distance and time - at the end of a workout, both are just about identical in measurements. The sound quality from the watch is exceptional for something so small - I don't use for listening to anything much but I am impressed. With blue tooth earbuds it would be top notch. One amusing thing. When I am sweeping leaves in the garden, I am invited to start a workout - skiing! I live in Thailand where there is never any snow or ice, even on the mountains.
Hey, nearly a year later I see your remark. I bought the GT2 Pro too after my GT2e fell to the floor and the glass broke. But everything you experience is similar to my problems with the GT2Pro. Me too live in Thailand. I bought the Watch at Banana's in Hua Hin's Market Village. After one week I brought the watch back to the shop. I had to wait six weeks before I got it back and nothing was done with it. Same bad performance: tracking started around 5 to 10 minutes after I started an excercise. Then it was ok, but I missed part of my measurments. I wanted to use it to monitor my heartrate and progress in some VR sports, but often it didn't record anything. I ended up buying another GT2e two months ago. This watch is great - especially for the price. The "pro" is now only used after sports. No other Huawei watch for me anymore... poor performance of a flagship and very shitty customer service.
@@TheQuantifiedScientist mostly just glad I made a non-terrible purchase when I got this! I'm gratified to know the HR sensor is fine for cardio (Personally, having experienced medical grade sleep tracking gear, I'm very dubious that consumer grade options can really keep up...but I look forward to you correcting me 😎)
Amazing review this is how it should be done! I was a bit surprised yours detects the wake phases so well. I personally use the magic watch 2 (which I think uses the same parts as the GT 2) but my watch completely fails to identify the wake times especially falling asleep and when in bed in the morning. As I suffer from insomnia which is also confirmed by polysomnographic sleep lab it's so weird to me it tells me I fall asleep right away when I probably take an hour or more.
It came earlier than I expected. Thank you very much for your work. It is very pleasing to cover the most curious details about smart watches here. Truseen 4.0 is fine, but Trusleep 2.0 is not as good as I expected. Next is the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, which is highly recommended everywhere. Will you check this watch?
I really appreciate this video. Thanks Rob, my experience with GT 2 Pro is very similar, great for measuring my outdoor runs and walks. But trainings with weights is often hit and miss with the watch underestimating my heart rate. Thanks again for your thorough reviews!
Good as always. Thanks rob!! Wouldnt you concider additionally to fitbit a polar device? You said in the video to polar vantage m that it is a really good sleep tracker.
Another awesome review! Looking at these scientific results now I understand why Apple never bothered with light sleep, deep sleep...... It simply cannot be that accurate on a watch.
I have seen in the description there are links to buying the products online. I do not wish to detract from this - the Presenter here deserves recognition and recompense from all his efforts - but I have one more observation to make. I bought from my local dedicated Huawei store and they did everything to ensure all was well and answered all our questions and spent more than an hour with us downloading the Health App and connecting to our phones. If you are not savvy with these matters, it is useful to have someone who knows what to do if there are "complications". I am aware also that for US and Canadians there is no Official Huawei representation in those countries.
Hey awesome review ! I have a suggestion for the sleeping analysis: maybe it would be better to put the 2 devices in the same graph ? (Like your graph on heart rate analysis for a given activity) that way looking for overlaps/differences would be easier ?
Another great in depth review. Really surprising result that a device like the inspire 2 can garner much higher sleep stage accuracy. Huawei has made abig deal about the accuracy of true sleep. You have almost the whole gamut covered in consumer wearables, would be interesting to see an amazefit gtr 2 and a Samsung watch to round it out. All this info is super useful in helping make informed decisions. Keep up the great work.
Congratulations on your videos. It's nice to see that the tests are done by comparing them with instruments as accurate as possible (without spending a fortune of course); sleep, heart rate monitor etc. It would be interesting to see how the amazfit gtr 2 performs compared to the huawei gt2 pro as they are very similar in price and category. Thank you
Deep sleep is my first concern about this watch I own since 3 days. Mine doesn't monitor my sleep cycles more than 2 or 3 hours a night... Your content is really interesting. Great job. Like and subscribed 👏🏻
what about the connectivity? app in phone? use in NON-huawei phone? battery life with spO2, HR, AOD, all 24x7 plus sleep tracking? every other review is focusing in "useless" information -sponsored reviews-, you are the best!
Hi! Your video is great, but you say you're going to do another one in depth about this watch and I cannot find it. At the moment, this watch is much more cheaper, and it could be very interesting and helpful to know your opinion nowadays. Thanks a lot, and I hope to see a new video of it.
Finally this is what I am looking for. someone who gives an in-depth accurate test on this smartwatch.. is there any smartwatch that you can recommend?
Hello mate, thank you for the review, I actually like how beautifully you keep smiling while talking. 😅 I want to ask something. What can you say about fitness accuracy? Calorie burned estimation is important for me, does it effectively calculate or do the same thing as huawei bands? Thanks.
Thank you, sir, so very much for this very good and excellent test/review! (Now you got yourself a new subscriber/thumbs up!) Wishing you all the very best always! Take care! Best regards from Sweden!
Well, I bought the GT2pro and was very disappointed in the heart rate monitor. It is like you said, during boxing and swordfighting it is not very good and those are the main reasons I use the watch. The GT2e however has no problems with it. Also during my bicycle trips I have the feeling that the GT2 pro randomly registeres my heartrate. I like the heartrate monitor of my GT2e and my GT-81 better than the pro.
I highly recommend your videos because they are way more scientific than any other channel I know. I'm happy that the link to the wrist measurement limitation helped :-)
It would be great if you can put all the data of every watch you have tested against the calibrated device u use in one place, so we can make a calculated purchase.
Hi, I have GT2 (not pro) and I have the same result as you about sleep stage (compared with Dreem² device), even totally off (except time to go and wake up from sleep) and mostly because I'm not static while sleeping (even on REM phase not much, but I'm moving often seeing by video) 👍 Thanks for this report 👍👍👍
Great video!!! You always have the BEST tests!!! FYI... the GT 2 PRO uses a different OHR sensor compared to the GT2 (non pro) Huawei claims the new sensor is superior. (guess not?) Might be interesting to test them side-by-side. FYI... Wien is one of my favorite places to visit (especially in the Spring).
Very good review as always. I have used Mi band 5 , Garmin Venu and now GT 2 PRO, I can say from my experience the most bad one was the Garmin Venu, maybe it has good hardware but software is so bad , not accurate and useless although its more expensive than the other two.
Thanks for some great content. It's nice to see someone actually putting these things to the test, instead of all these useless reviews going "it has sleep monitoring, which seemed to be accurate during the time I wore it". In regards to your comment that heartrate tracking for high intensity workouts is bad on all wrist-based monitors, didn't the Apple watch turn in almost perfect measurements in this area? Surprised no other watchmaker have been able to replicate that so far. Also, I'm looking to mostly use a watch like this to track sports, like tennis or squash. Would you say that this watch would not be able to track those kind of activities reasonably well? Not looking for pinpoint accuracy, but my somewhat old Garmin Vivosport didn't even credit me with activity minutes after 2 hours of sweat, which ruined the whole idea of tracking your activity for me.
Nice tech review …. Noting that it’s actually a comparison between electronic devices and they all have errors margins , but if a so good looking wrist watch with premium built materials is so close to more professional devices , then it’s a go for it
Hello! Really enjoy all your videos! I purchased the Inspire 2 thanks to you!!! Just had a quick question in the fitbit dashboard settings for my device, I notice that my fitbit is toggled to have sleep sensitivity to normal, was wondering whether you had it on normal or did you select sensitive when performing the studies that you did for your of your inspire 2 video.
From my point right now, the best smartwatch would be Apple Watch 6 with Firstbeat Analytics, Fitbit sleep tracking algorithm and better battery life. That would be the dream.
I have a question and I hope you can answer it. Wouldn’t it be possible and better to just buy the zMax and use it for accurate sleep tracking since nearly all of these watches bad inaccurate tracking? Or am I missing something?
Hi Yasir, Thanks for your comment! Ideally you would wear a full polysomnography setup, even more extensive than the z-max. However, this requires a lot of effort, both in applying the device and analyzing the data. Also, these often cost thousands or tens of thousands of euros. The zmax is already a lot easier to use, but still the analyzing of the data costs some time, and the device is also not cheap. A third option is something like the Dreem 2 headband or Muse S. These are easy to use, reasonably priced and automatically analyze your sleep. Still they require you to wear something on your head. Finally, a wrist worn device is much easier, though less precise. It really depends on your goal and the accuracy you need😊 . Hope this makes sense
Ideally you wake up in the fkin morning and you a) feel like shait or b) feel well rested , that tells you how well you slept and you can get the fk up and start the day like people did for thousands of years. Or B, you can let your cheapass chinese clueless watch guesstimate how well you may have slept and feel better or worse based on that. You pick.
Really professional and depth reviews for all the watches👍, look forward for Samsung Watch 3 and Ticwatch pro 3 depth reviews, as I'm an Android user looking for a suitable smart watch
Nice work. Are you going to do more reviews of sleep apps for the Apple Watch? I'm still looking for the best sleep app or the one you like best for that!
Hi, I am getting a Huawei GT 2e for my birthday and I was interested to find out more about the sleep tracking. Huawei does how ever have a disclaimer on their page saying the watch is not accurate for any of the functions they have, sleep/heart rate etc. But I think that the Watch had a higher refresh rate than the EEG device. My girlfriend has a Samsung Watch 3 and I only showed her 2 days ago about the sleep tracker and blew her mind. she has had the watch since it was launched.
I've been very proud of my gt2 pro that i just bought recently.until i watched this video. Of course i trust your work (your testing) but it made me so frustrated about my device.so so-far in your opinion and based your testing, which smart watch is the most accurate one for sleep and HR measurement? i don't care much about steps counting. And,thanks so much for your useful videos indeed, keep up great work!
No smartwatches are capable to measure accurate heart rate during weight lifting. he did mention using ECG chest strap instead of any smartwatches for that purpose
Any chance you'll be doing a test of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3? I really want the Scanwatch but I'm starting to think it will never be released in the US so I'm thinking about the Fitbit Sense or the Samsung Watch 3. Thanks for all of your very informative, well done videos!
Hi Rob, thanks for the great comparisons and all the effort you put into these. It gave me much more clarity on what device to buy. Could you share how you extracted the heart rate data for Huawei products? It seems that this is only possible by requesting the data from Huawei but I wasn't able to find any information on their website. Do you know of any app solution to gather the data / export the data from Huawei Health? Again, thanks for the great content and all the best wishes for you and your research!
I was looking forward to this review, thanks, Rob! I was really curious how will GT2 PRO perform. I am a little disappointed, I had high hopes. What do you think is the best smartwatch for the Android platform right now? Do you plan to test also Samsung Galaxy Watch3 or Galaxy Watch Active2, even though I don't have really have high hopes they will perform too good? Maybe OPPO Watch? Also, I suggest taking into consideration creating yourself a Patreon account so that your loyal subscribers can support you to create more videos like this.
Thanks once again for a nice Review. I tried the GT2 Pro briefly, but the Software just felt unfinished to me, and although it looked nice (though a bit large) I just missed the truly always-on Display of my Vivoactive 4S too much to switch.
I've read something online about the position of the watch on the wrist is important. Apparently it needs to be around 2 fingers away from the wrist to get the most accurate results. People are saying that they move it up a bit and tighten it and apparently it's a lot more accurate. Would be cool if you verified this.
I am sorry if you get asked this a lot... Which device would you recommend for sleep tracking? Do you have a comparison of each of the ones you have tested? I have always wanted to get a sleep tracker but have never trusted them. Thanks for making these videos!
Hi, i've made something similar with an electroencephalogram at one of my friends work with the gt2 pro, and when i've set the heart rate sensor ,from the huawei health app, counting continously the heart beats, not on the inteligent mode, i saw a changing in my sleep stage(unfortunetly it was for 1 night), but even in weight lifting my polar showed me both times quite accurate, different then usual, it tooks some good spikes this times..did you set it to count continously in this video? Cheers!
