Huberman’s argument is one from incredulity. A Muslim, Hindu, Jehovah’s Witness, Mormon, Sikh and Bahai can also appeal to faith. Clearly, faith is not a reliable pathway to truth.

@@MrCmon113 well, perhaps I didn't explain myself correctly. Humble is the one who doesn't affirm or negate things for which he has no evidence or no knowledge of. It is true that negating a premise doesn't need evidence, but the premise has to be valid. E.G: debating what happened before the Big Bang is based upon a false premise since time itself is a dimension which arose from Big Bang itself, so there shouldn't be a before, strictly speaking.

It's rooted in an idea called "the conflict thesis" that was proposed and was marketed so well that it has done what you see today.

I believe it's the idea that science has to have some kind of proof and studies that are known to be true, and we don't have worldwide proof that God does actually exist. but the kicker is, what proof do we have that he doesn't exist? I think that belief in something so pure and good and healthy is beneficial, even if it's not true because there isn't a negative consequence to believing in god if he doesn't exist. you have an anchor and you're happy, and you die and it's just black. but if you don't you'll look god in the eye and he'll tell you he was there, trying to get your attention the whole time and you ignored and rejected him. personally I don't want to have that conversation.

Doubt is a part of the process, God will allow the devil/or demons to do this to you, as a way to test wether you will have complete faith in him, even when literally everything around you is going to shit. It's like the premise of sharing a gift, doesn't matter how you think or regardless of what you believe to be true. Maybe you can relate to it in that way? Although AH makes no mention of Jesus in his experience of praying to God, his desire to “harness care and love” models Jesus (the God-man) of the Bible he is endeavoring to read. As to the life-changing quote from the author of this thread, Galatians 2:20 comes to mind (sounds familiar to the point he is making). People like me (atheist) do not care whether religious people like you think science is a polar opposite of your religion. I do not have a belief in your god, and I use the scientific method because it works better than any other method. That's the end of it. The scientific methods works really well. If you want to believe in a religion and also use the scientific method, go ahead. But if you conflate the two, such as using the text in an old scroll as equal to a theory supported via the scientific method then your opinion on the matter is no longer compatible with the scientific method. Old texts are not evidence for anything. Take a look at scientology or Mormonism for example. Both have a book that was written in recent history. Are both of these religions true because of that?

@@Supe204 I've been philosophising about this A LOT for many years and I've also taken several different psychedelic substances along the way. And one of the things that I've realised is that it seems like we all have this internal judge within us making us aware of how good/useful of a person you really are for the people around you and that are somewhat close to you, and whatever the level is, is directly linked to your will to live. So one reason many people feel deppressed is because this "internal judge" realise that you aren't contributing enough. If you really think about it, it becomes pretty much impossible to find a scenario where this isn't the case. But you might say, well what about psychopaths? I think that psychopaths are actually the loneliest people on earth, even if it doesn't seem like it, that is how they experience it And the reason they don't do anything about it is because they don't think they know any better, they've experienced life that way since they were very young. One thing you could say is that psycopaths and narcissists are actively supressing this internal judge. However the big difference between psychopaths and a narcissists is that psychopaths have since a very young age already accepted the world/people around them as something not worth fighting for so they fight only for themselves, they've kinda replaced their mental space of "the people around you" with themselves, whereas a narcissist is more actively in conflict with this internal judge which is why they seem so bitter and easily triggered. Because when you start to convince yourself that "the internal judge" doesn't exist you seemingly only end up more bitter and eventually you might even commit suicide. A perfect example of this are all the transgender people, they are ALL narcissists even though they might also be very good people. And MANY of them do end up commiting suicide. Anyway, I think this internal judge IS GOD. It is at least one of the things that many people refer to when they speak of God.

But of course he won't have full knowledge about the designer because Huberman himself is part of the creation. He will have to discern from the blueprints which the designer left in creation, and he will have to apply his reasoning and logical faculties, which Huberman has done quite well.

The earth was not created in seven days. The Adam and Eve story is false. The flood myth has been disproven using every discipline of science. The resurrection story has no foundation in reality. If the sole purpose of a designer is to explain how the universe came to be but you can't explain how the designer came to be or by what mechanism it created the universe and your source of information about that creator is wrong, then you're back at square one.

I can relate, growing up faith was more or less largely personal and private to a degree. Which God ? Does He define what He means by God ? Does He identify who God is ? Does He believe Jesus Christ of Nazareth is God incarnate ? God in the flesh ? He's also a neuroscientist first and foremost, so I don't see the correlation of why or how can his Religious belief affects his branding if anything.

Studies on intercessory prayer are typically inconclusive at best, and some of the people that were prayed for reportedly did worse, due to performance anxiety. Nothing against prayer, but there’s no solid evidence showing it works. Personal anecdotes seem to be examples of confirmation bias, and there’s not a way to reliably demonstrate a causal link between prayers and the positive outcome that followed.

@@fergalg-mu4wd Were you told that God would speack audibly? I dont find that to be the truth at all. i believe that God can confirm things that you thinking or reading but nothing audible. Also is that what made you an athiest? if not that, what was it? id like to help to the best of my ability.

Should the children starving around the world just pray harder? My problem with this is that it's usually privileged people saying this. Not trying to be rude, it's a serious question. Why would God help you with your first world issues when there is immense suffering elsewhere? That is my problem that I haven't found a good answer to. I want to believe but this is a issue for me personally.

@@dotsona07 …funny how we always want to blame God for our evil hearts and poor choices. The children that are starving, abused and being sold into sex slavery (in your own town by the way) are suffering because you are doing nothing to help them. Man’s inhumanity to man will continue to escalate until Jesus has to return to end the evil-hearted, hate-filled bloodshed and tyranny that is spreading at breakneck speed around the world. There will be no real ‘peace on earth’ with out Jesus - until we turn to the one and only God that can save us from ourselves…💔

​​@@dotsona07Prayer helps God to change us for our benefit, not necessarily just for our own needs and wants. Once we see our dependence and need on Him we can see his outflowings in our lives, notably, throughout history through charity, hospital building, giving, being generous, and loving neighbor - all flowing from/inherently Christian principles. The children in the third world need our help as first worlders - God will use us to do just that, if we pray to Him and He changes our wills to be more like His - loving. I'm sure they'll be lots of answered prayer for those children too - we just don't know what those prayers and answers are, and it's our duty to try where we can to help them because all people are made in the image of God and have inherent value - something secularism can't provide.
