Congratulations on your well thought out system and installation. I like the idea of cleaning up the existing system to a more logical placement. Good news is not being reliant on the noisy / fuel eating generator and the discovery of the faulty bilge pumps. Now you know how the complete system works if something goes wrong. Good job you two, it must feel great.

Thanks for your kind words! It was really insightful for us to swap cables, reconnect everything and also know where all the things are located .. it felt like a labyrinth in the beginning, but we are happy we made the change and can life more self sufficiently now 🤗

Good job. As well to your electrician for what looks like very neat work. It would be interesting to know how you experience the new set up while cruising a couple of days... And funny to watch! Thanks

What a mess with all the cables and plugs, thick, thin, yellow, blue, red... I find it admirable how two young people (who definitely come from completely different backgrounds) are working on the project with so much passion!! I have one question: is the conversion a benefit for our environment???
@patandfrankie

It is tricky and so many things are new, but it’s rewarding when you learn something and it turns out well in the end 😊 For us personally it’s the right choice to work more with solar and hydro energy then with diesel - it‘s a bit more to consider then just filling up a tank but it’s worth it 😉

Hi and greetings from Auckland New Zealand. What a refreshing blessing you both are. Keep on having fun, and keep communicating ❤ Hopefully, you have been advised about the compatibility of different types of batteries. There are serious issues and dangers to be aware of. So glad I found you ❤ Have you made a video on how you resolved the keel disaster? Stay safe, and happy sailing. Cheers from Kiwi land.

Hi from Hi to New Zealand! Thanks for your nice words! ❤️ We had a wonderful electrician helping us with this set up and only have one battery type that is connected. This is what you were reading to right? The boat yard disaster is still continuing and we will keep you updated here .. All the best to you too! 😊

Do you have a reason for the Quattro instead of the multi-plus. Thought the Quattro was if you also have a generator?
@patandfrankie
@patandfrankie 3 месяца назад
Thanks for your question. In our opinion the Quattro is more flexible and easier to connect with other parts of the Victron system. And the Quattro changes alone from shore power to inverter and the other way round. So the Quattro is a bit more intelligent 🤓 All over all it seems like the wholesome system to us and more flexible for future additions if needed. But both should work 😀 And the Quattro offers the opportunity to connect it with a Cerbo.

I like the idea of the system. Do you think you have enough charging option like solar?
@patandfrankie
@patandfrankie 3 месяца назад
Thanks for your feedback! That was one of our biggest challenges and we thought a lot about that. We added a bit of solar and if we use it intelligently and don’t wait until the batteries are empty it works very well. But we definitely need to combine all our options like the solar on the bimini, the flexible solar panels and the hydrogenerator. And in the worst case we also have the option to charge it with the engine (alternator).

Do you have a system in place that makes sure you get replacement parts when you use your current replacement parts. Like bilge parts
@patandfrankie
@patandfrankie 3 месяца назад
Yes we do, we work with excel sheets and for an overview and storage location of all spare parts + have calendar notifications 😉 Do you have a good experience with different way to do it?

Loved your video!!! I am getting ready to do the same thing to my boat. I noticed you used the MultiPlus 5,000. I am going to use 3 Epoch 460Ah lithium batteries. I spec’ed the MultiPlus 3,000. Would you recommend I use the 5,000?
@patandfrankie
@patandfrankie Месяц назад
Thanks! We're really pleased that you like it. And it sounds great, we are very happy with our setup. We opted for the MultiPlus 5000 because, in case of doubt, we sometimes want to use several of our consumers at the same time and may want to leave options open for the future (e.g. a induction stovetop). Therefore, from our point of view, it depends heavily on your user behavior and your consumers. An energy balance has helped us to define this, we wrote down the consumption of our electronics and then saw what would happen when we use some at the same time.

Have you guys removed the generator and haven't put it back in place? So, there is no generator now? How big is the alternator in the motor? How many alternator do you have?
@patandfrankie
@patandfrankie 3 месяца назад
That’s right. We have removed the generator and we have only one alternator with 115amps. We use two Orions from Victron Energy to organize the charging with the alternator. But our goal is to adapt our behavior that we use the solar and the hydrogenerator as best as possible. The alternator should only be a backup. The two test sails worked well so far - one with 300nm nonstop.
@leonardowillrich1849
@leonardowillrich1849 3 месяца назад
@@patandfrankie Nice. If I could suggest a piece of advice, I would say to install a Balmar 270amp/h alternator with an external regulator. There will be that week that is not so sunny and too bad to be out there sailing, then, spending time in an anchorage will require to produce energy to recharge the batteries. With this extra alternator and the external regulator, you don't need the DC-DC chargers, you will have a backup (two alternators is better than just one), and, besides, the Balmar 270a will create a load for the engine when running in neutral and RPM around 1500. It will steal around 5 to 6 HP from the engine. I know, I know, more projects, more money. However, you guys can consider it in future. Cheers.

@leonardowillrich1849 Thank you so much for the advice. We will definitely keep this in mind for the future 😊
