As a smaller defenseman, hipchecking was one of my few options to take much larger players off the puck at times. Fun stuff. Other players were not very happy when it happened to them haha
I don't have many cool hockey stories, but I did throw one massive hip check in high school. My only regret is that I didn't get to see the guy flip over me
Yo i got a hockey story. I hit Sundin with a nasty hip check in NHL2003 for the PS2. It was dirrty. Didn't even see it coming. Just BAM then SPLAT! lol Who would have thought Koivu was such a big checker. Lol
Hip checks are beautiful to watch. Obviously depends how you're hit, but the one time I went for a ride like that I didn't feel a thing. They're not that bad haha much better then getting caught with your head down and getting steamrolled knocking the wind out of you.
actually very well described. as a bigger guy when I played I was very liable to get hip checked and you really just roll out of it with no damage. getting blasted center ice was a lot less fun
3:16 I miss when Jokerit played in the Liiga, favorite team and I remember watching some games way back when Teräväinen and Filppula still played there before being drafted to the NHL (those two were my favorite players from the team and I looked up to them a lot when I was younger)
@@r.edward5701 Not that much.I was there and remember seeing the hit coming... I had time to wonder why Geoffrion wasn't getting away. D-man almost crossed the entire ice.
Hip checks are the one friendly type of hit that hate. The hit itself it very much harmless and is very effective. That's great! But that's not my problem with it. It's when coming down from the hit that's the problem. Your going 100kph then you yet hit and your going face first into the ice.
As a long time youth hockey official I secretly pray in ref locker room that someone…ANYONE will teach kids how to hip check properly if at all. A few of these guys are dropping too low. But many good ones too.
