Today we're figuring out how to add a train to our city! Mod & Asset List: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile... ➤ Visit my website for my Twitter, Twitch, other channels, specs and more! My Website: jamesturner.yt
can't explain how incredibly relaxing this series is... usually with content this long I tend to just have it on in the background but... being able to just sit down with these videos for an hour with a cup of coffee, a blanket, and just... not having to think about anything besides fictional traffic solutions, not actually doing anything but keeping my brain busy enough to not have to think " I should be being productive and doing something else right now" .. just incredibly nice.
Flabaliki in Ep2: "I like how this nice little neighbourhood is coming along, nothing too much, just a cosy place to live." Ep6: "Let's shove a railway straight down every single backyard in the entire city"
Ahh, the train afterthought episode. Yes, thank you. Not many people deliver horror content outside of October. Hands over the eyes for most the episode. Quality.
You could do the area right at the end of the peninsula as an old town (next to the big castle), and then the newer more modern part of the city centre would be next to it!
A European district will be nice, in places where you feel like "I want this to be high density but not big skyscrapers" with a grid pattern. Would feel like the Barcelona blocks system which is amazing.
I loved seeing the train working and all tucked in between the buildings and fences, makes it so much more realistic. Also we adore hour+ updates. So good!
Seeing the thumbnail, I’m already excited because you’re finally getting to start the train line you want to do! And let’s be honest, creating a public transit network that gets well used is one of the most satisfying things in this game.
This series has made me not only buy some of the new DLC, but also watch your old series. They’ve been super relaxing and a joy to watch, so thanks for that!
I feel like trees on either side of the train tracks would maybe look a bit nicer, and that way it buffers noise for the houses around. More green areas!
I am living for how frequently these videos are coming, I’m back on a skylines phase and giving sims a bit of a break. It’s funny how you live on the other side of the world (I’m in the uk) we are a similar age and play the same games 😂 I’m pretty sure if your a simulation gamer we all play the same games.
Not gonna lie, I love the hour+ long videos. A guilty pleasure of mine is watching your content when tired because it's relaxing enough to fall asleep to, and the hour allows plenty of time to fall asleep without having to queue up another video. I do go back and rewatch it from where I remember seeing it, but yeah, helps with sleep.
I can’t stand skipping episodes in this because I don’t see the changes you made. It’s like going back to your home town after years to see your high school, only to see that they moved it over a few feet and put a train stain next to it.
Hey, you should download the pick it mode it is very useful and lets you easily select stuff like a road or building by just clicking on it. (works like the eyedropper tool in sims)
I actually really like replacing stuff in my cities as well. Feels a bit like they're evolving and growing, almost a bit like they would in real life ... just much quicker
You inspired me to download this game at 3am and build many many terrible towns. I guess there's a steep learning curve and my constituents are paying the price! Living for these relaxing long episodes! Thanks James!❤❤❤❤❤
When you clean up the roads/fences that are adjacent to the train stations can you also refine some of the zoning? There are tons of 1x1 properties surrounding the new line and they're really bugging me haha
I wonder if there’s a way that you can eliminate the amount of railway crossings along the train route? It’s seems there’s a lot of crossings for a railway commuter line. But otherwise really enjoying the series!
If you want trucks to use the main road instead of the little side streets you could always ban heavy traffic on the smaller roads I believe and can make the big main roads a priority road.
You made me want to play Simcity 4 again for some reason. Cities Skylines somehow got too difficult to run on my computer, even in vanilla. I'm quite happy that I managed to play a thousand hours of it before it became wrecked.
Just if you’re interested, the way cities skylines loads things is instead of loading assets when you use them, it loads them all at once. This becomes relatively intense on your RAM making the game run slower. Essentially, it’s just somewhat badly optimised game. Cities skylines is the only reason I need 64GB of RAM. No other game comes close
Hey! I loved this episode! You had plans, the episode is longer, you downloaded assets, the episode came out shortly after the previous one but not too soon, not too late? Good work!
James, I just love the way you play! You just play and build how you like, not how anyone tells you to! If you want to build 20 intersections right next to each other because you think it looks great, just do it, even if x comments say how pointless it is. Your way of playing is just inspiring for me! Keep it up!
I don't understand why we're dipping the roads down and making all these intersections that will definitely cause problems, when we could just have the train tracks pass above.
I love this series. It’s perfect, I would personally enjoy watching you stream when you play this game also! How do I not sound like a suck up fan but still say you are so funny and here for your content all day every day… 🙌🏻
James, I really can’t thank you enough for this series! I love it so much, it’s so relaxing and entertaining at the same time! Thank you for going back
Please do a little slip lane for the people turning left in the roundabout coming from the bridge. The turn right know seems unneccesarely sharp as they Don’t Even need to enter the roundabout to turn left
It's really good to hear you enjoying a game again. You don't have to join all the roads to build a round about. You can use the builder on the end of a road, if you want.
28 mins in - love the idea of a train line, my only gripe is, why cut through communities and roads when you can surpass them via elevated track. It would cause less disruption to existing dwellings and infrastructure, and allow for greater creative control. Plus from a community level a raised track would lessen traffic issues
True, I'm just looking at it from a long term perspective. If there's going to be regular trains going from this community to a larger downtown one then that might warrant the need to elevate the track. Anyway, loving this series man
James wondering why the episodes are always long while the entire comment section is gushing over how much they love them and appreciate him is so wholesome-funny to me.
Oh am loving this series! But a thing that I miss from other series are the timelapses at the beginning of the episode. For example you doing the road line marking will probably look really good during a timelapse.
I don't know if it helps to hear it, but for me the longer the episode the better! I am living for this series right now, it's the perfect relaxation series and the long episodes soothe my binge-loving soul. I love this game but I don't understand how to play, so watching you do your thing is incredibly satisfying! Keep doing your thing, and as long as you're having fun, so are we
I find it interesting this is called 'Building a train line!' - 2o mins in and no signs beyond the placement of the train station. LOL! Amusing none the less.
I live in a small town in the United States so these roads and traffic things make absolutely no sense to me, but I love watching your process on figuring it all out!
I feel like 70km/h is too fast for a road with pedestrian-crossings. Most roads I know that are 70km/h don't have any crossings, it would be to dangerous (I'd say max 50). Maybe that's the reason why the cars and trucks were avoiding that route along the shore, because they could not really make 70 but had to slow down for pedestrians too often.
...dude, why didn't you simply elevate the track in that long straight approach from the park to the high school and then keep it above ground all the way to the first station you placed in the new area? Could have saved yourself a LOT of level crossings and general faffing about
make sure you use node controller to fix the wonkiness of the node separating the overpass from the ground tracks. you can shorten the width of the node and it will look more realistic!
You only need the park side gate if you want to get money and user counts. It requires a main gate to provide all emergency services and happiness benefits to the zoned aread around the park area.
