Hull bottom, rusty keel, cracks and G-flex epoxy

The temperature is over 5 census degrees so I can begin my hull bottom paint projekt. Last year I sanded all the antifouling away and then I builded up all the layers again with epoxyprimer.
The only spots where I didn't fix the bottom was under the boat stands, so it's time to do that task now.
The keel also have a small amount of rust I remove with the anglegrinder and then apply biltemas rust converter.

I did not know that Biltema has a rust converter, they apparantly called it rostätare in Swedish, no wonder I havn't seen it. I have a steel sailboat so going to buy it tomorrow for some testing. Sanded and painted my bottom hull with two layers of Biltemas "bottom" paint today on my 36 feet boat, puuh, my sholders, final layer is going on tomorrow. I wonder what we did in the weekends before buying a boat. :)

The rust converter works very well and when I did the keel job the first time I only applyed 2 coats of rust converter. When applyed it create a rust free "primer" and don't rust further if it rains. For long time durability the rust converter surface must be covered with a primer. If you apply the rust converter to a big area use a respirator, due to it smells bad like old paint.

Hi Tino! Great video - Thanks! Based on your experience, for a similar repair of about 3 meters long (both sides of the keel), do you believe one G/FLEX 655 repair kit would be enough? Also how did it respond when applied vertically? Would you recommend mixing with a filler for more viscosity?

Thank you for the informative video. I hope the Gflex works for you. I wonder if fiberglass with epoxy would add the strength you need to prevent cracking of the epoxy or is it flex of the steel! Do you sand between primer coats?

Hi Tino, thank you for sharing. Can you please confirm, rust converter and epoxy primer are both from Biltema? Is it a good match both together (no issue for the primer to stick well on the rust converter? Regards.

How deep dip down did you go when you prep the hairline crack between the keel and the hull? I have exactly the same issue but I think I'll use Silfaflex 291i to seal the crack. What's your take on this aproach?

The G-flex does not crack according to my observations in port side, I didn't go deep just made a fouge in the edge. The sikaflex 291i applied in 2018 is on the other hand cracked in my starboard side, but instead of using G-flex I'll try some Tec7 this year. If it also cracks the G-flex is the way to go due to the flexibility of G-flex.

Hi Tino, what was the tool you used to remove the paint at 0.39 looked like a claw of a hammer ?

It is called a "vacuum scraper" a pretty nice tool you connect to the vacuum cleaner and scrape off the old antifouling
