I guess we took those gem deals on Milsurp Flea Market buys for granted. In the late 80's to mid 90's, a perfect SKS could be had for $85, a Mosin Nagant was $65 and my favorite Swiss K31 was $125. That rifle you just unboxed would have been in a trash can with a "FREE" sign on it.

I remember it well. Friend of mine and I got in really well with the manager of a (now defunct) sporting goods chain store due to the number of rifles we got. He not only let us know when he got in a new shipment, he let us look through and cherry-pick what we wanted. Good times.

I've gotten into the habit of restoring rifles that are basically lost causes. Recently brought an Arisaka and Kar98 back to life, both were considered to be basically gone, for parts only guns. Both are up and firing now, lethally accurate.

I have seriously considered an Arisaka in working order at a local shop. They tend to run cheap around here and are far less desirable than Kar98's . My Mom is Japanese , so I think I can justify one for U.P. Deer hunts. hahaha

Years ago, I bought a Swede M38 stock from Hunter's Lodge. I paid extra for the range chart on the stock. I received a stock with an old crack all the way through the butt stock, and 2/3 of a range chart. The other 1/3 had been scraped off through use. I will never order from them again.

Before trashing the wood, take the metal off, then spray the wood with Easy Off, use a hose and a rag (outside of course). Continue the cycle till the easy off lifts off nothing, then hose the wood down with water, wipe with a clean rag, then hose it again and dry the wood for 40 hours. You may find unit markings of historical value. Do not reattach any metal parts until after the wood has dried. Spain re-barreled their 1916s to 7.62 NATO, not to .308, so if it actually says .308 Winchester, that was someone else, not Spain doing the re-barreling. Run a head space gauge before using. Also check the chamber for pits, roughness, etc. Or just rebarrel them back to 7x57, your choice. Check also C&Rsenal and Forgotten Weapons for their videos on Spanish Mausers.

My dad worked for FN. They made a rather famous rifle, the fall. Stamped 7.62*51 or 7.62 nato. Some countries ordered them in. 308win. All they changed where the stamps. Same with hunting and sports rifles. Depending on country they got shipped to the only difference where the stamps.

I know the vid is old but I did a lot or research into the M93/95 1916 pattern carbine, some were rechambered in 7.62 CETME not .308 Win or 7.62 NATO, the CETME was a lower pressure version of the NATO round and was meant for older model 1893 and 1895 receivers(and others) due to the poor metallurgy of the Spanish armories of the time, essentially the locking lugs could(and would) break off with an over pressured round like a lot of commercial .308. now with the sight and stock configuration yours "should" be a first pattern, but I have seen some where the parts were reused and converted to the CETME cartridge and used for training/transition until what we know as the CETME 58 or the CETME Model C. as far as the black stripe, that's the first I've seen one, Also a lot of M93/95 receivers that were left over were converted to the FRS-7 using the same 7.62 CETME round. now a rare bird is a German made M93 that survived Spanish service, not a lot of those were made before Oviedo took over production in Spain.

I have never seen that kind of injury to the receiver on an Enfield before, but the rest of the damage would go along with that I guess. It is hard for me to imagine guns in this condition bringing these prices, having had a C&R license in the early 2000s where I was buying worn but complete shooter ready Model 44 Nagants for as low as $39.95 from SOG and nice arsenal refinished 91/30s for $79.95. Enfield I good condition were $125.00 & a Yugo M-48 Mauser was $100.00. Fear of restrictive gun legislation got guns bought up to the point we are at today. Those Mausers aren't bad though. I'd love to know because this was the rifle I really wanted to purchase from Hunters Lodge...I already have nice Enfields. I'm missing a 7mm Mauser in my collection. 7mm mausers are kinda less talked about in the surplus world but it's a really good round and isn't mentioned alot. I guess I would still go for a 7.62 NATO and just shoot Nato or light loads. But really want one that is chambered in the original 7mm Mauser. 7mm Mauser is surprisingly easy to find too because it's a popular hunting round. But dosent mean it's cheap.

@@ReadinessReviews I would just see if it chambers a .308 round. If it dosent, its probably 7x57. If it does, I would double check further to make sure it's .308. 7x57 is a longer round than .308. Or stick the 7x57 casing in there and see if it goes all the way in. Never heard of doing a chamber cast.

Well the only thing i dont like to do is buy wall hangers. I do have two that were family alumes so i keep them. A pair of old Black Powder 12guage shotguns. SideXside's. Great looking gun but so old i wouldnt even attemtp to fire one in fear it would blowup! LOL But if i buy a project gun i plan to get it running for my collection and buy 500ds for it for storage for a later time as i will shoot each and every one when im done. So i would take the time and put in the effort to get all of those in working order! That last muaser really got me going! I would love to have another one that isnt as costly and less historic so i can use it as a shooter! I run in a circle that has comp shoots with era spcific guns ,like one time it must be a K98 or the next an Enfield No3 or what ever.....There are even about a dozon guys and gals that own the Japanese WWII rifles (since i cant spell it) hehe but most of us have WWII era guns that we use in the hat draw each month. There are 12 differen guns that could be picked from the hat. From Nagant's threw Euros and and Allied/Axis guns and so on. The shoots take about a week each month giving people a chance to run the course picked for the games.....hehe At times is shoot and scoot or long range static and nonstationary targets. its a blast! Locally here in our bluest of states in our red county we have grown the numbers of participants that what use ot take a day or two now takes a full week to play out!It actually costs 5bucks to join so there can be a few 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes. The local gun club we do it at suggested it and asked us if we wanted trophies or prizes and of course most of us wanted prizes. Over the last few yars the prizes have been pretty nice gear, or a scope for 1st ,red dot for 2nd and a set of irons and so on. Or camping gear and even ammo not and then and its a good time ot be had. The club loves it as well as they get to sell burgers and dogs and keep a food truck that makes funnle cakes and so on! like a mini carnaval. They even had face painters a few seaons for the kids. I just love the whole idea as it got me into collecting mil-surps at 1st just for the games but as i started off with the 1st few , i just loved them as i pay just enough to get a decent gun. I dont mind if its not one of those historical guns so that i can get a new stock because i dont care of the stock matches if it makes the gun not only shoot better, but look great! Right now i can only join three shoots a month as i only own a Mauser my grandfather took of a German solder ,either in North Africa or Italy? He brought back two and we just dont know which one was tkaen from which Continent ? lol One is a Nazi marked as such and the other is a VZ24 that had the Czech state emblem on it and had a faded Nazi eagle on it with the small swastica in its talons. Im not sure if it was a Naval rifle as its a bit shorter barreled and taken in Italy where a lot of German sailors lost their ships and were fighting on land where they were most needed. After Germany lost all control of the seas and most of the air it was all over. Im just happy to have the one i did get that was my Pop Pop's! LOL Then ihave a Nagant of course and the 3rd is a trap door 45/70 Army from the old west.Thats a replica which is allowed as some of the guns are just out of reach for the average person lol Mine holds 4rounds and was used by the U.S. army during the indian war as Custers men were carrying them and the Rosavelts charge of San Juan hill! So thats one class i guess you would call it? We even have a Black powder of the arms of the war of 1812 and so on. Its just great family fun ! We can take as children and supervise them while teaching them how to use a firearm as well as firearms safety! There are prizes and face painting and ice cream and games for the children to give parents time with the family and shoot over the course of the day and enjoy it all! Best of both fun worlds!!! This has inspired me my friend to maybe get a few of those broken guns as they are all the same to use parts from all three to make one functioning gun. Even if i still have ot buy the bolt face or another part? Its quite satisfying to complete it to a functioning ,working gun that is decently accurate! LOL Good video bro thanks! Oh P.S. let me know if you had these all mailed to your door and if so how? lol
