In this episode we pursue feral hogs in a dried river bottom near San Antonio, Texas. We eat mullberries as we make ends meet living off only wild foods. As we chase the hogs down, we also make due with left-over meals from the previous days including turtle soup, possum stew, pea hen and cactus tunas. We set a live trap for hogs and bait with corn, and sweet feed.
Unlike Naked and Afraid, ALONE, or Survivorman, there is no limit to the tools we are allowed to use. Living off just WILD foods is harder than you think!
In this episode we set live traps for nuisance and fur bearing mammals which are legal in Texas including possum, raccoon, rabbit, skunk, armadillo, feral hogs, javelina, badger, fox, porcupine, bobcat, coyote, gopher, ring tailed cat, soft shelled turtle, red eared slider, rattle snake, water snake.
We hunt FERAL hog too!
We fish for catfish, alligator gar, long nose gar and drum, crawfish, crawdads, or yabbies, ghost shrimp, bluegill, rio grande perch, armored catfish, flathead catfish, blue catfish, alligator, freshwater clams, leopard Frog.
All wild foods are on the menu!
We seek out wild edibles including prickly pear cactus pads or nopal, cactus fruit or tuna, wild onions, mulberries, wild grape, Texas persimmons, pecan and anacua, mulberry, tasajillo, turks cap, yucca pods, cats briar, oion, chili pequin, duck weed, ground cherries, desert hackberry.

You will find that a person that doesn't worry so much about dirt on the hands or under the nails when they eat will be some of the healthiest people you know.The immune system is like any other system of our bodies. If it isn't exercised it becomes weak and apathetic. Our bodies have to learn and practice at fighting germs and viruses. People who obsess over sanitizing their homes suffer from more virus illness because their immune system has gone to sleep. It's funny how our ancestors lived for thousands of years with dirty fingers and only in the recent 50 years that a kitchen sink without sanitizing hand soap is a deadly situation and threatens all of human life.

... and you get your facts and statistics from ... where ... exactly? The Babylonians were the first to make soap around 4000 years ago. It was made using lye and it was a stronger anti-bacterial soap than anything you can buy on the market today. I'm not advocating that a doctor go putting filthy hands inside of anyone's body, in child birth or surgery; my point is the little bit of dirt on the Wooded Beardsman's hands while he's eating isn't going to cause him problems because his immune system is most likely accustomed to it.

@@3DPDK One i never mentioned any statistics, all i did was make a really sarcastic jab at sanitation in older times. But if you really want an article mate here ya go www.thoughtco.com/medieval-child-surviving-infancy-1789124 , which states that infant mortality was 30%-50% due to the extreme lack of sanitation back then compared to the 0.58% we have now. Two, soap especially hard soap was seen as a luxury back then, and when it was used it was used mostly for clothing, alot used just water to wash themselves. Lastly i never wanted to start another comment chain, it was just a sarcastic remark mate about how sanitation is still key in modern living today.

Sugar can replace what you need in fat. It's getting enough that matters. I think best bet would be to make a jam out of the mullberries and boil off more of the water and free more of the sugar. But you need to collect in massive amounts and make a huge portion!

The only issue I have with trapping hogs, is that hogs are very very smart. If one gets trapped, then the others around it will likely never come close a trap again or become what some of us call “educated” which makes it more difficult for other hunters. I prefer to shoot them then trap them for that reason, but great job!
