Hurricane Frances was a super slow moving and agonizing Hurricane. She took forever to make landfall and had a really big eye. Mike Theiss of UltimateChase.com teamed up with Brian Tiedemann and filmed the beginning effects of Hurricane Frances at Ft. Pierce Beach and then relocated out on the barrier islands of Vero Beach for her landfall. We were able to captured Frances full effects on this island and experience Hurricane Force winds for over 10 Hours......

Even though Frances hit the east coast, because of its size we were getting category 1 force winds all the way in Tampa. We in Tampa have been very lucky, but we got completely rocked by that one. A tree just missed our window by inches, haf it fell just right our window would've been shattered, the roof very well could've blew off, and I might not be typing this right now. Thank goodness. Plus we were with out power for 53 hours, its hot and humid, all the stores were closed so food was scarce (we did not plan well) it was just miserable and at times, very scary. I never underestimated hurricanes again. And they kept coming too. In Tampa, we felt tbe effects of Jeanne, 2004 Dennis, Wilma, 2005 Alberto, 2006 And most recently Debbie, 2012, which caused the worst area flooding I ever saw. Bayshore blvd was literally a river.

Cat 2 is 111 - 129 mph. See National Hurricane Center website. They have an article on the wind scale. Francis was officially a cat 2, but had higher gusts.

Nice shots of the wind tunnel effect in the first minute or so right on the beach. I noticed one of the Sabal palms snapped right off, that takes some serious winds, unless it occured at a trunk constriction.

I remember the summer of 2004 and the back to back hurricanes: charlie. Frances and Jeanne I live in cocoa....not much damage from charlie didn't have any windows boarded up don't remember much. it seemed to pass quickly. Jeanne ( that was a different story) we boarded up, left town and stayed in Orlando, came home next day power out for days.....next came Jeanne (right on the heels of Francis) l swore I'd never stay at home through another hurricane. but again we survived....

youre nearest parking garage is always your best bet. Whenever storm chasers, or weather channel, sends people out to get footage inside a hurricane (even cat 4+ hurricanes!) they send those people to park their vehicles in a parking garage and then stay at the parking garage thruout the hurricane to get footage or to retreat into when it gets too bad to film. (by parking garage i mean those mutli-level open concrete types) these buildings are sturdy and hold up well, shelter vehicles well, and allow strong winds to pass thru them so as not to have any weak spots where the wind can cause them damage, and they are made out of very strong steel and concrete (think, they have to withstand the weight of hundreds of vehicles on multiple stories!) and i always say next time we get another major hurricane here in Fort Pierce i will be parking my truck at Fort Pierce's court house parking garage...and bring along me 3 cats and me and my hubby will ride it out there (i dont trust my house at all. its from the 1920's and is a 2 story wood-frame/all wood duplex and we live on the top floor! it also has a LOT of termite damage!)

@borisoncameron i felt the same way up until this hurricane in particular. with 3 and a half days of gray sky and rain and no electric for two weeks, the city in a state of emergency and most stores and restaurants closed for damage, i was pretty depressed. i don't want to go through that again, but it is exciting when you hear the howling wind and things crashing around in the streets :)

What's crazy is Jeanne and Frances made landfall in the same spot only 4 or 5 weeks apart. Hutchinson Island / Port Saint Lucie.
@Equinistah
@Equinistah 26 дней назад
@@AlexanderJones-b4v Technically, it was Sewell's point in Martin county where they made landfall within miles of eachother , but it might as well have been here in fort pierce since we took the brunt of both hurricane's eyes/eyewalls! I had SO MUCH fun during Jeanne at my friend's house right off Jenkin's road near Orange ave in Fort Pierce. I was around 14 or so at that time. they had a huge hurricane party and there was like 15 of us kids and a whole bunch of "grown ups" (most of them were drunk off their ass lol) and us kids were running outside during the eye and as the back eye wall came in. an hour or so later I was getting tired (jeanne hit very late at night) and tried to lay on the couch to go to sleep when i was juuuuust about asleep we all hear "BA-BOOOOOOMMMMM" against the back of the house that scared me staight wide wake and almost fell off the couch and everyone started laughing at me and asking me if "i thought the hurricane GOT me???" lol. Turns out a HUGE section of their wood privacy fence flew off and slammed into the back of the house during a 100+ mph gust!

Frances--SUSTAINED winds of 105, means gust were probably 120-130. Parts of Florida experienced hurricane force winds for over 14 hours! A bad year for the sunshine state: Charley, Frances, Jeanne and Wilma. Charley was the worst.

We got lucky with frances. It was sustained 140 mph winds then weakened to 105-110 rigjt before it made landfall. It was at one point point stationary over the treasure coast. Imagine if it would of stayed at 140 mph while just sitting on us....yikes

@Equinistah
@Equinistah 26 дней назад
It was just as bad. I was riding this one out, and rode jeanne and wilma out when i was around 14 and i was inland near jenkins road and orange ave in fort pierce so i was about 10-12 miles inland and it was BAD. Houses with roofs blown off. Trees uprooted and snapped in half everywhere. Houses with walls that failed and roofs caved in and many belongings scattered thruout people's yards (then those homeownes sitting at their house with loaded guns in front of signs that read "if you loot- WE SHOOT!") so yes, it was just as bad inland for well over 4 miles inland. especially when the back eyewalls came thru.

She was for a long time, but she slowed down and some wind shear,dropped her to to 105mph. the winds were 145 mph so 145-105=40. it dropped 40 miles per hour in wind speed. I can imagine if it did not slow down and the winds stayed at a 145, and the water made it go 40+ in wind speed, then... 145+40=185... 185 landfall...
