Once again JT, your analysis beautifully broke down the nuances of JH#1 and the Eagles' offense in SB LVII. Hurts put the team on his shoulders. That two point conversion was CLUTCH. It seemed to me if the Eagles gave just a 5% better all around effort, we'd be partying down Broad Street with the Lombardi again. However, it wasn't to be. There's a strong nucleus of players that the Eagles can build around. Having a significant upgrade at OC, DC, and ST will have the "Birds" in a position to succeed. Btw...I emailed Eagles' football operations about installing "hot routes/reads" for their offense based on your analysis. Obviously, no adjustments were made. "GO BIRDS!!" 🦅💚🦅

After watching both QB breakdowns it seems clear the SB was decided by coaching and that if you flip the QBs the outcome would have remained the same. Nothing came easy for Hurts schematically like it did for Mahommes. Obviously both are great QBs but the coaching edge for KC was the difference.

So, I can say with some certainty that Lane IS asked to 1v1 the edge on almost every snap. I can also tell you that the blocking assignments were properly executed, but they did not all win their assignments. Kelce is the one that got beat. One way to figure that out is by seeing him on the ground. He lost the leverage game and is off balance (he is undersized). Seumalo was intended to assist him, and Kelce would then pass the block. Kelce being off balance changed the angles, and Seumalo couldn't take the block because the tackle was already past him. Making things worse, Seumalo's attempt to take the block pushed Kelce more off balance, and further closed the A Gap. The plan was for the Dickerson A gap (left) to be open with Kelce, Seumalo, and the defensive tackle between the linebacker and Hurts hitting said A-gap. With Seumalo in control of the tackle, Kelce would then block the pursuing linebacker at the next level because that is what he is most well known for. Obviously, edges are normally faster, and he would have a clear and straight line of pursuit from behind if he was unblocked, which is why Lane was on the edge. All this meant Hurts started running to the left A-gap, but was forced to plant his foot and change direction. Then he immediately saw a linebacker where he changed direction to, and Lane was blocking the edge in the straightest path forcing a second change of direction. In under one second from realizing the A gap was closed (based on this video), Hurts was being tackled while trying to secure the ball on his side opposite the defender. What did we learn? Don't switch hands on the ball while actively being tackled. Flawlessly played by the defensive tackle. He beat a Hall of Fame center (probably) and won a Super Bowl, congratulations. I am now going to go watch Brandon Graham win a Super Bowl in a play!

He threw the Under route to 11 every time before this throw. 38 Sneed played it well too, feathering off. Just perfect placement by Hurts. Big time throw. Tbh my takeaway from this video other than what Dan talked about was that they Eagles need a better third receiver. Pascal's main job was to be a blocker and he was doing horrible and Watkins dropped passes all year(he apparently had a shoulder injury, idk if that affects drops) but the Eagles most effective set most of the year was 2x2 and they need a better third guy to run that a lot, idk care if it not a slot guy AJ can play the slot some. On that play where Jalen dropped the ball I think it was an RPO but because of the coverage the receivers didnt really finish their routes cuz they knew it should be a run and Jalen saw that gap in the left A gap and tried to run it there but the 1 tech crashed into that gap and because of the field conditions Jalen cudnt cut back and get far enough away to switch hands and the ball slipped out. Tbh I never had a major issue with Steichen because most of the time he had pretty descent gameplans, but their were some really dumb playcalls that came out during the season like the two middle screens in the Vikings game and the whole issue with not having hot routes lead to most of the sacks that Hurts had during the season, especially in empty sets. I think the worst thing is seeing those 7 man protections let free rushers to the qb tho, whats the point of running max protection if it duznt work even when the defense isnt running a 7 man pressure

The only reason being I was so excited to see how much better he could look with another year of development. As upset as I am that they lost that Super Bowl, because they were more than capable of winning it, I came away from it vert optimistic about the future. Hurts played incredible all year, and I have no reason to believe he won’t come back next year and be even better. Losing Shane Steichen might hurt a bit but if we promote Brian Joseph then at least he’ll have some level of consistency.
