If you don't have a job, then your full time job is looking for a job, and if you can't find a job you want, you take a job that you can get until you can find a job you want.
@Jack-pd4ps
@Jack-pd4ps 7 месяцев назад
It’s not a good idea to make it a full time job to look for a job. It’s better to apply for 1-2 jobs at a time. I usually pick the best job for my interest that pays well and I know that I’ll qualify for. An unemployed person is a Salesperson. A good Salesperson does research and makes effort. Applying everywhere possible is like walking down the street and putting flyers on doors. Most people throw flyers in the trash. Applying for a job takes skill and patience.

Listening to this call makes me appreciate my husband tenfold. He resigned by his own decision, from a 6-figure job May 2022 due to some ethical issues in management. He took about 1 month to get his bearings, then took a local job for a contractor for 2 months, then left that a took a mechanic job for another 3 months. In that time he decided he wanted to go back to school to become a police officer. We agreed and he put so much effort into his decision, graduated top of his class and got on with the local police department. I am so proud of him and proud to be his wife. I gain a lot of perspective hearing others stories of their struggles. I am just so thankful for my husband and I hope this caller’s husband can find purpose and motivation for himself and his family again. ❤

My ex got a degree and he was shocked that he couldn’t get a job. He took a job at a grocery store and was embarrassed/bitter. I can imagine. I have no issue with taking on a study that you're passionate about, BUT there has to be some kind of pragmatism when considering the earning potential and job prospects of the study. Some people choose studies which have very little to no prospects for a job afterward, then they are shocked that its almost impossible to find a job and then be too proud to take on something that allows them to earn!

I get that completely. Its a mans job to get out an provide. Its a huge amount of the reason his wife or whatever has respect for him. This is why for men...its a big deal if or when his wife starts to become overweight beyond reason and wont do anything to fix it. Because for men thats a huge part of attraction. After a YR I said give me your resume, I will also apply for job on your behalf & I challenge you to see how many interviews we both get. I fixed his resume and applied to a dozen jobs which garnered several interview requests. It proved he wasn't even trying. I told him to go to the church for their resume workshops & see his doctor for depression. Years later he still never got a job. At that time He went a total of 7 yrs unemployed with his mommy paying his bills. I was young and dumb staying that long. My ex boyfriend was laid off as an IT manager from a top firm nearly 20 years ago. He was making over $100,000 a year. He has not worked since then. His girlfriend at the time kept helping him to look for various jobs, like as a bank teller, but he just would not work. After several years, she left him. Now he finally reached 65 to get Medicare and collect on Social Security. He said he is depressed over Christmas and New Year's every year. @@calebburghardt3391 I think he was saying it’s not an ideal job. Like no one grows up saying they want to be a fast food worker. They always say doctor or fireman or something like that. I mean no one says they want to be an accountant when they’re 10 either. But I think that’s what they meant. All work is hard. Some is more physically demanding while other more mentally taxing. Some is just emotionally exhausting. Some, all three. My point is you pay into unemployment. Don’t give it up unless the pay is better. No sense in putting your family in a worse position billwise for the sake of just getting any job.

A lot of people in these comments saying “work work work, no matter what”. Most people hate their jobs, so they end up spending most of their waking life in a place they hate, which makes them bitter and resentful, which effects their home life. People act like work is the most important thing in the world, but then their crappy dead-end jobs mess up the really important things.

He's too proud to get any stable job that brings in something, but absolutely fine with being a housedad to a teenager and having me pay for everything. Not only that, this is a double hit because the longer he does not work the less pension he can receive, which means that he would have to depend on my pension entirely in retirement. I expressed my disappointment at his approach - I also told him we will have a big problem between us if it continued; yes absolutely the nuclear option because he now has a job he hates (still not taking responsibility for improving his circumstances) and blames me every time for him being miserable and frustrated that he lost credibility with me.

I got laid off during the pandemic with a 1 year old, and we were a one income household. We did something drastic to change our circumstances. Instead of sulking about it, I started a side hustle while applying to jobs all day every day. We moved to Mexico with our kid and found an apartment for $400 a month. We figured out a way to live on $900 a month. It took 4 months to get unemployment, but since they laid me off after the federal aid, I was getting 1600 a month vs the 4500 I used to make. After 5 months, I got a job, and we started saving like no tomorrow. I also got a second job to build up our savings. This gave us a cushion, and now I've been working like crazy for the last 4 years, so I'm never in that position again. Being let go from a job is devastating, but you can't just sit and whine about it when you have a family to take care of. I built up my side hustle to 7k a month at one point. I woke up at 2 am and worked my butt off. He is choosing to let you carry the burden. I'd be pissed if I were her, too.

I was made redundant during thr GFC in 2008. Walked into my job at 9am, had to clear my desk by 10am. It was scary - I'd always worked full time my entire life up to that point and never lost a job before. Straight away i began looking for another full time job, but my industry pretty much had a hiring freeze on at that time - at least for full time work. My applications went no where. My redundancy pay at the time was about $5000. So i took a break to reassess. For about 3 weeks, i enjoyed just not working - went for walks, cooked read, relaxed, recharged, etc. But soon the money began to dry up. So I decided to just go for whatever temp job i could find - a little bit of money coming in was better than none. I think my 3rd temp job was a 7 month mat leave cover. I figured what the hell: 7 months of stable pay is better than nothing at all. I stayed in that job for 10 years, lol - full time 😊 Moral of the story is you may not get the job you want straight away, but just grab opportunities where you can and see where it takes you. And little money coming in is better than nothing at all.

One of my good friends’s husband was unemployed multiple times. The longest period was over 3 years. I always wondered why he chose to be unemployed than working. Recently, someone mentioned getting unemployment paycheck is easier than working a minimum wage job. Wow. Thought my judgement of my husband couldn’t get lower. This man is over 50 and still financially dependent on his dad.

Me and my husband just moved 900 miles away from home . It's very hard to switch every little thing especially jobs lucky he works for autozone as a manager but here in Kissimmee FL they didn't pay him as well as DC so while he is bringing home money every 2 weeks it's barely enough where I am working overnights bringing in 2x what he does . I can tell he is always bringing up looking for another job but he can try harder.. I also give him some grace because i just went back to my field in March 2023 after being a sahm for a year where my husband took care of everything. I just tell myself atleast he is trying but I can also see where she is coming from too

I looked forward to going back to work today after taking vacation after Christmas. Most days off I did not get out of bed till 9 am, realizing how much time I wasted not being productive.

Pride is tough to put aside but your pride will make it where you won't be willing to do what you have to provide for your family. Its funny, I work at a grocery store. Many managers don't even have college degrees and they're making six figures. He's gotta put the pride aside.

My friend worked her way up to grocery store manager by the time she graduated college. Her salary was so good she couldn’t afford to quit and get into her chosen field.

He should be cleaning cooking, doing laundry, taking care of the kids packing her lunch... as a man he needs to be flexible, doing all those things while applying for a job, to me hes to prideful and luckily he has a patient wife to put up with it

People want that 6 figure income but as soon as they hit a road bump they sit at home for 7 months. That’s not what 6 figure income earners do. I got fired once, as I was driving into the office for the meeting I was setting up interviews for that afternoon, was hired by the end of the day.

Ill admit my ex-wife has worked for UPS for 35 years and her seniority she gets overtime first, but part time regular working 6 days a week making 100k, she actually decided she needed to back off a bit because of income taxes

I’m glad she makes a comfortable income to support two in daycare and a husband that’s not working for 7 months. No massive stress on bills getting paid.

There was no mention of her income, but she did say they have a lot in savings they can tap when the severance pay runs out, so perhaps her pay wouldn't have been enough to cover all expenses if they hadn't saved. Perhaps what's in savings is the reason he's in no hurry to get a new job, though he could use his wife's wisdom in not allowing it to erode away.

I’ve been a single mom for 11 years, zero child support received, I’ve had to heal through abuse, divorce and everything in between. I’ve made it work because my child counts on me. If she wants to play sports, I have to work two jobs to make it work…
