This all stems from recent government mandates on efficiency of HVAC equipment ( title 27 ? ) BTW , there are 2 long capacitors located under the cooling fan that smoke , easy to verify just pull fan up with screwdriver and look for burn / short. Likely from condensation .
The motor is not internally protected therefore if it blows one of the 3 fuses it will single phase and smoke , fire dept ? ? If anyone out there is going to do this use a motor starter sized for the motor.
I did something like that for a customer, but he canceled the vfd and just paid for diagnostic and time Some Customers are very ungrateful or Don’t have ethics so I don’t bypass them anymore
