The US has not had a service rifle with open sights since maybe the Krag-Jorgensen. Peep sighs are actually not open sights, they are non magnifying optical sights. At our advanced age it's very rare to be able to use open sights on rifles. Getting properly made shooting glasses with an adjustable iris is a very good idea, which lets you enjoy pistols and rifles again! Shouldn't cost more than a decent scope. Btw I just ordered a HW30s as soon as I got up this morrning, can' wait! Will be used as a lazy day rifle, and to introduce three nieces to shooting, which were all a little it intimidated by the very heavy FWB300s last summer.
The Hawke scope you mentioned is one i have been thinking of getting to replace the old oversized scope that is on my HW 30 so a trip to the gun shop is on the agenda, thanks for the videos, stay safe 😊
Man, that HW 30s looks like the perfect little plinker that you could shoot forever. The bluing and metalwork looks buttery soft. And that crisp Rekord makes me jealous. I love the Hawke Airmax 2-7X32, and have 3 of them (you can get them for $159 at dvor). Its the perfect size for my Cometa Fenix 400 and Cometa Fusion. I have the airmax 3-9x40 on my diana 34 ems and then the 4X ao Vantage on my gamo swarm fusion. The 4X fixed is super lightweight which is great but it's a little longer than the 2-7x32 airmax. I definitely appreciate the Hawke scopes, especially the amx reticle and adjustable objective. The airmax is noticeably more precise than the vantage (in terms of the parallax error, and I really like the thin, etched reticle). Congratulations on the new Weihrach. I hope you have a ton of fun shooting it.
@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 I believe that dvor is a division of opticsplanet, which appears to be HQ'd out of Illinois. They actually have a decent supply of targets and scopes for airgunners and then lots of other shooting supplies, camping, and outdoor gear. I haven't seen the Airmax prices any lower which is why I suggest them (they sometimes have the 3-9, and 4-12, too).
Interesting that you were a rifle instructure in the marine corps. That explains your tight groups! I got a Hawke vantage 2-7X32 for my hw95k. Its a great little scope for the money.

Hey Chuck, personally I don't think I would keep an expensive wood stock rifle in the truck. Too many things to bang around and scratch the stock. But if you are so far from town and nobody else is around and you don't have to worry about thieves, keep it in a case and don't worry about it. It's going to be a great shooter and past time. As far as a good scope? Well, if you plan on keeping it as a truck gun get an affordable low powered scope that can handle the recoil, but also spend the money on the zero recoil scope mounts by Diana. It's like buying insurance. You know you're going to need it eventually. The gun recoil will kill the scope so the mounts are a must. Why buy good expensive glass? Stay with the cheaper glass and keep count of your shots. Maybe the gun will mellow with time. But if it doesn't, try to mitigate it. Besides you can always hand down the scope to your son when he gets his airguns and that will be your excuse for upgrading to better glass. Stay Safe. Be Well. GOD BLESS.

Thank you 🙂👍. Right now I am trying to figure out what scope to get for it. I was looking at an Athlon Talos 4-12×40ao but the shortest range that it would focus was 15 yards. The Hawke Vantage 2-7×32ao focused all the way down to 5 yards. It gets extremely cold in South Dakota and I like to be able to entertain myself in the basement, especially after working out, lol.
@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611I had the opportunity to take a peek through some Athlon scopes and the one you mention some time back from a local supplier, absolutely clear glass and clear etching on the reticle but out of my price range 😔 I also got to take a peek through some Hawk Airmax scopes and the glass was nowhere near as good as the Athlon's, I then opted to purchase a similarly specced UTG Bugbuster 3-8x32 online, I must say that I like many things about the scope BUT the Field Of View is terrible which I noted about the Hawk Airmax scope at the time, the 32mm Diameter lens does not offer a great FOV even when zoomed out, I think that's the right terminology? The regular cheap and nasty Gamo 3-9x40 is superior in my opinion to the more expensive Bugbuster even without the Adjustable Objective just because I can see a bigger picture of what's around my intended target. I believe a new line of Hawk scopes arrived so will go take a peek next year sometime and perhaps my mind will have changed. When the roads are quiet especially on a Sunday I can take shots at all the rats in the street below, sometimes I let the dogs out to sort out the vermin but taking care of them with a pellet gun is somehow more rewarding :) If you lived in Joburg you'd understand, will take and send you some pics once we're closed for the holidays. That is so nice to have a neighbor close by 🙂👍. I also have the HW80 22, HW95 Luxus 22 and HW77 22. I was held back from buying the HW30s because I thought that the power was going to be to low, but when I was a kid, I took several squirrels with my Daisy 880, same power level. I also watched several reviews on AEAC of the HW30s, and even Airguns of Arizona put together a package with a silencer on it specifically designed to take out backyard pest.
That is great. I hate when I start worrying about the cost of the pellets while I'm shooting, lol. My 3 HW 22's really like the CPHP 14.3 and especially the H&N FFT.
Pump rifles such as Crossman 362 and Benjamin 392/397 (both deliver approximately 20 joules) are lighter, the same weight as HW30, even PCP Diana Stormrider (35-55 joules) also lightweight with the smallest air supply. finished pumping quickly. HW30 is great, only 7.5 joules... only the break barrel does not have a fixed barrel, after many shots there can be some play, take rifles with a fixed barrel and recoil-free rifles, shoot with flawless aim

@@tomvanderham1416 Best? I think that it an awesome little air rifle, that is very accurate, easy and fast to load compared to a pump rifle. It's perfect for indoor or outdoor shooting. Most youth can cock and shoot it easily. The build quality is way above most air rifles using all steel and wood. It is a perfect backyard pest 🐇 eliminator with the low energy. You don't need a ton of energy for shots 20 yards and under, mine has taken 2 squirrel and 3 cottontail 🐇 no problem. The HW30s is one of those in between rifles, that is just fun.

I called Athlon and asked them if the scope is springer rated they said yes and lifetime warranty. Company out of Kansas. My beeman r7 with Vortek kit 663 es 6 sd 3 8.21 fpe with air arms 8.44 gr accurate little shooter as you saw in my last video I did with the r7😉 and I’m using the althon talos scope for you to see braddah👊🏾😎
I agree the trigger is very nice 🙂👍. I have not adjusted the trigger yet. It has a tiny bit of travel in the 2nd stage but almost unnoticed. I will probably eventually adjust it, but it actually helped me while shooting open sites.
*Focusing on open sights without the proper lighting* (and when you need glasses...but apparently I could qualify expert without fixing my eyes.) *is not always easy 😁* It seems fairly light and maneuvrable but...laws from my province can answer this question pretty quick; You cannot shoot from any vehicle.
