Since the founding of North Korea, a dictator has loomed over the people exercising strong control. What was the philosophical backing that led to this situation? The answer is the philosopher Hwang Jang-yop.
Hwang Jang-yop served as the ideological secretary and ghostwriter during the rule of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. He was a major contributor to the state ideology of Juche but more importantly the Ten Principles for the Establishment of a Monolithic Ideological System. These ten principles help build up a cult of personality around Kim Il Sung and we can see these principles being followed today around Kim Jong Un.
Despite his high rank and influence, Hwang would defect to South Korea, condemning the family and people he left behind. He tried to atone for his sins by criticizing the North Korean regime, but didn't live long enough to see any change.

South's gdp per capita hasnt surpassed North's until the mid 1970s and North had a better standard of living until up to 1990.

You should do a video on Han Ryner he was a very unique thinker that is utterly forgotten

Sounds like he got what he wanted. And then did not want it anymore. Just like most ideologues of all spectrums. The world (people) is way more complicated than academics would have us believe.

How do you stumble upon these lesser-known philosophers? I'm doing research on different types of love and trying to find some smaller philosophers especially in the East/Africa

I will say tho having finished the whole video now, that he defected with the intent of trying to reverse his wrongs. It's common for a lot of people to go on a mission of self-destruction to try to attempt to right their perceived wrongs immediately (which in his case lead to the destruction of his family and a loss of his legacy basically)

I don't think that "strong fanily-oriented spirit" is a characteristic of communism, but rather a cultural aspect of far-east Asia, same thing with Japan and China. Obviously the north korean version is a bit more extreme but you don't see that kind of thing in Cuba or the USSR.
