In this video I will stripping back the roof section to assess what rapairs need to be carried out. Did not expect what I found underneath. Hope you enjoy and leave a like and subscribe if you do!
Good tip.. when making up patches round off the corners. Helps with distortion.. especially would’ve helped with the filler piece in the middle of the roof. Takes longer to cut out and shape but definitely works. Hammer and dolly method works well it stretches the metal. The roof warpage will need stretching and shrinking to get it back into shape. But doing what you’re doing will get it to a skimable stage
😮. It's bad. But man Sam your doing a very nice job. Can't wait to see more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work Sam. Fab On. Weld On. Keep Making. God Bless.
even though the original repairs were dodgie they kept the water out allowing the car to be salvaged later in a better condition than it would have been otherwise. so dont be ashamed to whack some bog in sooner than later. also i have a pile of cars i can cut up so i look for bends, turns and sections already half shaped that i can more easily get my final shape. good presentation. thank you
Hi Sam, great work with your channel, only found it today. About the warping, I got a tip from a panel guy, if you put a damp cloth around the area it can help keep the heat in the rest of the panel lower and reduce the chances of warping. Great work, hoping to get my own tonner soon.👍👍
No worries Mate. Hopefully the videos can help. Trevs Blog is awesome. He does some great work and is happy to share his knowledge. Have learnt so much from his channel.
A bit late but the aerial hole because you had access should have traced the hole straight to metal. A square patch transfers alot of heat at corners, cooling with air is good but you were still welding to fast and got some oil canning. Check out fellow YTber Fitzys Fabrication and keep going, you guy are swaying me to start my HZ sandman.
Hey Sam mate not a good thing to fined. With a repair like this your best to remove the whole roof skin so because most times the inner area will be rusted out as well and yes there is about three peace's that make up the area. As for the gutter mate look up Rob's restoration on RU-vid and Facebook as Rob has the tooling to make the gutters. Also as for welding on thin areas like that roof use heat but then cool down with water not air mate so to get the roof back then use a Oct to heat the lower spots to hen cool down with a damp rag so then it should pop out the dints then.
Yeah, I think im understanding the theory. And its likely one of those lost art forms a small group old timers used. Cooling he weld before it shrinks. But, Im of the thought that it'd act like the damp rag technique causing a forced shrinking affect. Good for some area's to pull a panel taught. Not so much as general use. Im open to be corrected on the practice tho.
Good work getting this old girl sorted Sam. Check some of this vids, short but insightful. facebook.com/1516992655270449/videos/377228309838483/? They do some awesome work. Think gutterless will look awesome. You should fill in the gaps around the windscreen and rear window so you can go frameless. Makes old cars look a lot more modern, looks awesome when done right.
