My Xaimen ProDrill hydraulic wedge splitter is seeing some more action on this job. The task required a lot of basalt rock to be broken and removed so that a swimming pool could be built. The hydraulic splitter was deemed to the most suitable method of breaking up the rock in this instance. Thanks also to Clarky for the good work with the excavator.

@djdeaf13
So glad you had the excavator part in the video!!
@tda2806
That's not a pool, it's a moat!
@maxmacdonald7174
Can't pass this one up. Cracking good show.

Thanks Dave. Man those hydraukic splitters are a good investment.❤

In Montreal, they recently used a larger version of those hydraulic breakers to dig the massive hole for the REM station at YUL, Aéroport Montréal Trudeau. To give you a clue of just how big that hole is, te station is 35 meters deep. The hydraulic breaker was mounted to an excavator as an attachment. Being right next to the airport, explosives create a number of concerns. Turns out that hydraulic breakers work great in the rock that we've got. The rock that we've got is extremely hard and stable enough that you can dig a hole that deep with a sheer rock face without doing much of anything to stabilise the rock face. Using hydraulic breakers instead of explosives did not cause any delay in the schedule. Based on what was said publicly, the contractor really liked how the hydraulic breaker attachment performed. It sounded like we could end up seeing it on other jobs in the future.

Between the cracking and the ripper, I'm not sure I can pick a favorite, but damn this video is the most satisfying thing I've seen in weeks!
@kevinmartin9432
Excellent video, and the digger driver is on top of the job too
@thecasper911
Dave, I love to watch you blow stuff up, but I am always fascinated by the feather and wedges! And then you bust out hydraulic feather and wedges! Wow!! Excellent video, my friend!
@peteacher52
A most satisfying THUNK! when the rock splits! The Yanmar mini is certainly a tough little excavator.
@donleetz3250
You're a good rock breaker, Demolition Dave! 👍
@williambryce8527
Dave, Alway love it when you drop a video! I think we are about the same age and you motivate me to stay in shape and not get all retired American fat! I think today was the first video I can remember you saying anything about retiring!!
@davidhandyman7571
Ah, Dave, you make it look so easy but the work that goes into getting there is so much more. Thanks for sharing. I find it fascinating to see your work.
@dongeorge4037
Watching the splitters work is amazingly relaxing.
@paulcooper9135
There is something mesmerizing about your job! Those hydraulic splitters are amazing to watch.
@terrymarsh1255
The quick change buckets are brilliant, I can well remember driving out pins, fiddling about to get the holes lined up on the new bucket close enough to get the pin back with grease and dirt everywhere, Definitely a major improvement and those hydraulic splitters work well and must save a lot of time and effort.
@marshalldavis4455
The video today was very interesting. Showing the characteristics of the actually splitting was great
@ThomasBarone
To the customer, "how about an above ground pool or a nice pergola, instead?" I have to imagine, that pool is going to be a bit on the expensive side. Can't wait to see more! Subscribed.
@einfelder8262
Bloody hell - that's one expensive pool. I wonder if they would have ordered it if they knew they would be funding the rock-breaker's retirement, haha. They must have had the same issue with the house foundation. Merry Christmas Dave, have a good break, see you next year.
@markmayer2029
Another tip for my old buddy Dave; Have a bucket and a metal detectors plastic scoop. Fill the bucket with some screened 1/8 -1/4" screened high PSI compression screenings. Place a scoop in the crack, at the full length of the cycle. Keeps the cracks open. Don't place too close to f&w, or it will attract to the grease. Use an old tooth brush to apply the grease, and another for wiping before greasing.. My gift to you, Merry Christmas! Also have made some shim wedges out of 1/4 of a 2' pipe. Make them the length of the feathers. Add a tab an inch or 2 welded on a 90 at the top, so they don't slide into the hole. Use 1/8" wall pipe, place behind feather. Opens hole another 1/4". I think you get the idea.
