Love it when a guy that makes a video comes back years later to answer peoples questions. That shows me who to subscribe to. Learn more from comments then a good video.
Thank you very much for taking the time to make this video. I was able to pull my pump apart and everything in mine looked almost exactly like in the video. saved me a lot of money!
Thanks for the video🍺🍺. Exmark Lazer Z HP I blew out my right pump bottom seal. I opened the pump and the bearings in the swash plate was chewed up. I got all my parts from Jack’s Small Engine. I changed the bearing with the races, the top plate, & the bottom seal. I opened up the left pump, everything was good. I flushed all the lines, both drive motors, and the reservoir. It’s running good as new now. Thanks a million🙏🏿🙏🏿👍🏾
Mines just like yours except I have dixon kodiakELS 60.. MY OIL filter hard to find until NAPA got it for me napa gold 1269. I'm ordering the whole hydro gear PG 10 cc. I think my pumps identical. Never fooled with hydrostats just hydraulic cylinders on tractors and a dozer. Your video was very helpful for me to see what I'm getting into. Thanks good job!
Hydraulic Technician here. I would HIGHLY recommend to replace ALL seals while you have the pump disassembled! You can buy a speedy speedy seal that saves you from finding a hard to find shaft. Also clean each component! NEVER assemble with dirty parts as you are allowing contaminants into your new/rebuilt pump. The fittings should also be removed to replace the orings. Other than that, good job! (It would not hurt to lap the port plate, piston barrel, pistons if not replacing them).
I spent hours searching through videos and this one is the only one that uses the same pump as my Scag. Excellent video and I am now going to give it a try. The pump is already of the machine. I now feel a little more confident. Thanks fr taking the time.
John, ,thought you might find it funny but the only bit I got stuck on was removing the disk on the fan end of the shaft. I was not sure if it was threaded or just seized. Spent a few minutes trying to remove it and then thought I know check the video. Of course you start the whole process at the point where you had already removed it. :-)
Oh sorry about that. Yeah, that disc is just sitting there with a film of oil under it. I'm sure you already figured that out though. I gotta remember to turn the camera on when I start my projects.
Rather than poke holes in my fingers with seal picks, I use a set of small external snap ring pliers to get that bottom clip off. The trick is to file a flat spot on the outside of the barrel on each side of the pliers. Squeeze and spread with the snap ring pliers and THEN run your pick under the clip. No bloodshed necessary. I've used vaseoline as assemble lube for years. It's cheap, works great, and I sometimes have to point to the large jar to subtly ndicate my opinion when negotiations are heavily skewed against me.
awsome .. i would replace the brass washer behind the seal thats what makes it a high pressure seal without it or a worn washer its only good for 25 psi. but great way to show people
Realistically, if you take good care of the mower and do maintenance religiously. You can get thousands of hours on a pump. But if the mower is neglected at all, you're looking at under 2000 hrs. The price of a pump is around 5-600 depending on the mower As far as cost to have one rebuilt? I'm not sure. I'd have to imagine 3-400 though. To rebuild it myself, it was well under $200 Don't be afraid to tear into one. They're way less complex than they look. Just make sure you put it back together in the same order you took it apart.
Extreme heat and hot weather can do harm to any equipment no matter how much u baby it. Extreme heat breaks down the viscosity in oil. Grew up on farm and around heavy equipment.
Abuse and neglect can do a lot of damage so your correct on that. I watch these videos of these young kids working for excavation companies that will dance these skid steers on 2 wheels and twirl around to show off but I never see the boss or owner make the little punks pay for the expensive repairs it creates and im sure u know what I'm talking about.
I found a kit for 160 so I'll rebuild it myself. I've been a backyard so called mechanic all my life rebuilt Holley 750 and a couple quadrojets back in my teens I'm close to 60 now. Did HVAC for 25 years u learn a lot in that time and still learning like now.
My Cub Cadet M60 Tank has the same pumps. On mine the lower bearing was wore and let the shaft wobble enough to take out the seal. Oil dripped on the drive belt and the mower wouldnt move. My pump did not have the wear plate like yours. The pulley on the bottom is a tapered fit and man it was tight. Ended up ruining it trying to get it off. I figured maybe $20.00 for the pulley. Wrong!! It was $63.00. With the pulley and bearings and seals and new hyd filter and a new belt it ended up being around $200 to rebuild vs around $600 for a new pump.
Between the bearing and the seal, is the flat washer. The c clip holds it all into the housing. What did you tighten? And how in the world did the housing break?
Hey very nice job , great detail , especially with the "little guys and pops off" nothing left out to guess at ............................I was wondering if the seal could be changed without disassembly , always good to inspect for internal problems as well though
I believe this rebuild is the same pump on a machine I own... its a hydro gear model number 5102174YT... if you could, it would save me alot of time if you can provide me with the part numbers of the components needed to rebuild this pump. If I am incorrect and this is not the same pump, where is the best place to go to find bearings, seals, vanes, etc. etc. thanks, mike
You mentioned that one time you installed the charge pump cover 180 deg. Dit it not do anything at all, I’ve been trying to track down a relief valve, litte plastic ball so decided to make one with a 5/16 steel ball bearing and a spring fro an ink pen. Do you think this could work ok?
Hey Fitz. Great video. Ill have to check out the rest of your productions. But for now I need some advice. I had just bought a grasshopper 721d G-2 1999 model and want to change hydraulic oil and filtwer. Grasshopper has their secret oil but I know its nothing special but I dont want to trash the motors. What would you recommend? Thanks. Great job. You have a new fan!
Enjoy your videos! Question regarding the Ferris in this video - When replacing hoses, do they line up the same on both sides on the pumps? In other words, does the hose with the 90 degree fitting on the bottom of the wheel motor go into the left side port (looking from rear) on both or are they reversed? The Ferris parts manual shows they are reversed, but my mower has one wheel going forward and the other going in reverse following the diagram!
Same question here, I installed them both lower to the left fitting as your standing at the rear of the mower and the left wheel spun in reverse so I switched them and the left now the machine works as it should. Standing behind the mower the right side hoses are lower hose to the left port at the head and the upper hose to the right side port. I have a Simplicity and their diagram shows the opposite. So the way they have it is lower left on each side which didn’t work in my case.
In the charge cover is a flat gasket, do you replace it with the flat ring gasket from the overhaul seal kit? It is smaller (need to be stretched a little) but flat and there are three o rings that would fit. Thanks for your help!
Great video I need to find out if I can buy a rebuild kit for a pump on my zero cub . I'm hearing there's not a kit and the pump is $450 but I really think if I tear it down I can get the parts from the big hyd shop up town . The wheel motor also may need rebuilt or replaced and maybe there's a kit for this as well Thanks for the video
When you pull the pump, take a look at the numbers on it. A quick google search and you might get lucky. A lot of other mowers use the same parts. You might find a place that has everything you need. Good luck
Hi.. just bought a secondhand Scag Wildcat which seemed to be in pristine shape. Got it home and of course it leaks :( It appears to be coming from the union of the top and bottom "halves" (quotes because I know the bottom is longer). I am hoping it's not the shaft seal because I'd hate to have to pull the whole thing apart already, but I noticed you didn't change the case seal. Do those tend to go bad, and/or is there any other special reason mine might be leaking from there? It did get bounced around a bit on the ride home, but nothing I wouldn't expect from regular work. Thanks!
Hi Great video, is this the same pump rebuild procedure as on a Gravely Hydro- Gear , it is whining & after it gets warm it slows to a stop, no leaks though.
I have a question. I have a zero turn and it jerks and stops pulling on one side at times. Is it going to be the pump or the drive motor and where can I get Parts to rebuild one or both. Thanks. Robert.
Sorry. This video is from 2013. The place I got the parts from has been out of business for a few years now. I dont remember any of the part numbers. Try Googling the parts you need. I'm sure some place has what you need
Can you tell me how to get the parts you replaced......like the seals, bearings and plate? I went to outdoor distributers & had no luck.....when I clicked on pg series pumps the link was dead. I need the part numbers & description .....GREAT VIDEO, thanx for making it!
Michael Dumenko Jr. Are you sure you have the same identical pump as mine? Take a look at your pump. The numbers are on the side. Google search those numbers and see what comes up. As far as my pump, this was filmed many years ago, and I have no idea whgat the numbers were.
Will worn out hydro pumps cause a mower to go not go as fast when mowing? I have a cub cadet zero turn (The Tank), and I notice it struggles to turn around. It doesn't go fast when going forward or backwards. Thanks.
Fitz' Where do you buy your parts at. I see you talked about buying the bearings for a little of nothing. Can you give me the name of the place online you buy your parts. I need a new bearing for the pump shaft. Your video is awesome. Thanks.
Fitz's I called the outdoordistributors.com and they said they only sale the complete pump, but not the bearing by itself. Any other suggestion? Pump models. HYDRO GEAR PG-3KCC-NV1B-XXXX HYDRO GEAR PG-3HCC-NV1B-XXXX
+Ben Owens don't call them. Go to their website outdoordistributors.com and click on "lawnmower parts". Then click where it says "I don't my part number" then click on "pg sires pumps". A diagram of your pump will come up. Scroll down to the part number of the bearing you need. Then copy/paste or write down the number. Enter it into their search menu, and it'll show up. Or google that part number. And there'll be other places that sell it.
Thx Fit'z was able to get the parts. A little clicking but all came out well. I just rebuilt one of the pumps and will go ahead and do the other one because of the lawn of one goes out the other one will. I have another question? I have the same pump in your video and ferris 1500Z. What type oil do you use in the system. You say in the video 15W/50. I am trying not to go the local dealer because they want to sell their oil. Looking to get it at the local parts store to save money. Do you use 15W/50 Synthetic? I am able to get the 15W50 and 20W50 systhetic at local parts store.
on the bottom of the pulley, there are 2 screws 10mm if I recall. pull them both out, and screw them into the other 2 holes next to where they came from. as you tighten them, it pushes the pulley off the pump. very easy
+Jason Collier if they broke, you're fine. just grab 2 more and screw them in to the other holes. when the pulley comes off, your broken ones will be exposed, and you can grab them with vice grips once the pump is on the bench
+Fitz's Fixes the gasket in the kit I was sent from hydro for the top cover(4 10mm bolt cover) is round. The one I took off is a flat gasket. Does that matter or should I put the flat one back on? I appreciate your help.
I have a Husqvarna CZ4817 zero turn riding mower that I just replaced the drive belt and ty-rod. It worked fine for 12 hours of mowing (4 different times). I was mowing last night, went to use the right arm to back up and it would barely move backwards. It moves forward just fine and turns just fine. It just want back up on the right side. Left side works fine in all directions. Please ya’ll any ideas on what to look for, where do I start? Thank you so much in advance.
i let someone borrow my log splitter. they added hydro fluid when it didnt need it. it was spewing fluid out of the relief hole but they kept splitting wood until the ram would no longer split the wood but it would go forward and back still, just no pressure on the wood. i realize it can be a lot of things but could this cause pump damage?
Great video! I've got an Exmark Lazer Z HP and one side is lacking power and responsiveness. I'm thinking it's the Hydro Gear BDP-10A pump. How do I know if it's the pump or the wheel motor? Thanks!
Hey Fitz i have installed a new hydro gear pump on my is 3100z ferris mower and i cant seem to get oil back in it?? I mounted the pump, put the hoses all back together and didnt think about putting oil in it till last . Is there some kind of filler tube ? I dont want to run the pump dry if i just fill up the reservoir . Ive tried pumping some oil in on of the side plugs but its very hesistant on taking oil. Could you help me out?
Take 1 of the lines off the wheel motor and put it in a tub of oil. Turn the hub by hand. Itll suck oil from the tub and circulate it through the pump. You'll know you're turning the hub the right way when you see the oil level start dropping in the tub
Hello, im gonna buy a Simplicity 20 year 2007 with only 434 hours on it, but it is something wrong with it when it gets warm it gets slow with low power from booth wheels, i think the previous owner have tried to change oil and filter and also belts, what can cause booth sides to go bad?, seams strange?
Hi can i get your help me i have a hydraulic 52 inch lesco lawn mower and both sides of mine was making a sound but now it will barely even roll is it the hydraulic pumps or the wheel motors ? I took a look inside one of the hydraulic pumps it looks like nothing was bad inside and was clean ?
it's probably the lumps. but for both of them to fail at exactly the same time is suspect. are you sure you are full of fluid? if it's low, the pumps will whine and not move.
Attempting to troubleshoot my IS 15000 Ferris. The movers left side lost power to the drive motor. The left side goes in reverse (enough to back it up) but almost nothing forward. In your opinion, would this be the motor or pump? Thanks
Hey man, sorry to bother you. I just discovered my boy added straight hydrologic fluid to the reservoir not knowing the difference (frankly I don’t either). Shortly after that is when I lost power. Before I start throwing $2000 in parts on this thing. Is there a way to test either the pump or the motor to isolate the problem?
By the way, when I put it on jack stands, the wheel moves both forward and backward. The pump sounds like it’s “straining” on the side in question. Thanks
Welp, replaced the wheel motor. I think I bought the last one in the United States and same thing. Now at least I know it’s the hydro pump. May I ask where you bought your parts? I didn’t see anything in the description (mobile device)z. Thanks!
HOW CAN I FLUSH THE HYDRO ON MY EXMARK IT HAS GOTTEN WATER IN THERE SOME HOW I HAVE DRAIN IT AND PUT NEW OIL AND FILTER BUT STILL LOOKS LIKE IT HAS WATER IN IT ANY HELP THANKS
To do it properly, you should really pull them apart and clean the internals. If you want to do it quickly, take 1 of the 2 large hoses off the wheel motor. Take the end of that hose and put it in a bucket of clean oil. With you hands, spin the tire slowly in the direction that cases the hose to suck oil from the bucket. As you spin, the clean oil will cycle through both the wheel motor and hydro pump. The dirty oil will exet through the hole on the motor you pulled the hose from. After cycling a few quarts though, I would hook the hose back up and take the other one off and repeat the process, spinning the tire in the other direction. This will insure you have fresh clean oil throughout the entire system. Good luck
The pump is. Once you enter that, all the parts will be listed. I just entered the numbers in Google, and there were a bunch of places that sold parts.
