Thank you for your study. One thing I would note: Hydrogen Peroxide loses potency once it is exposed to light. Hence the brown bottle. Don't transfer the HP to a new bottle, just use a NEW Clean Spray nozzle and cut it to fit the Orig. brown bottle. I just reuse the nozzle and place it into a new bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide when the other is empty. Problem solved.

Small tip.,.. for vertical areas and problem areas, you can put toilet paper in the area and wet completely with hydrogen peroxide. Then form the toilet paper to the problem area. This is *especially* good for moldy caulk lines. As you can see it goes from black to grey. However, in the end, a cheap $90 UV light run for 30 minutes once on each end of the room completely sterilized the area. Multiple positions are needed to deal with shadows.

Thoroughly enjoying these videos! Anytime we have the risk of a norovirus outbreak in the house, I use hydrogen peroxide to clean, as well as in the washing machine with the laundry, as it is one of the few things able to kill it. I'm positive it works on surfaces, but curious if it is working on the laundry. Being that we have 5 people in our household, and only 1 bathroom, I'm always concerned about the stomach bug specifically, lol. I'm interested if it is a good laundry sanitizer in general.

@kellyyork3898 You may have a sensitivity to it. I have been using it as a mouthwash for decades after I had four titanium pins placed in my jaw. I have always used it undiluted, but after a few minutes, I thoroughly rinse my mouth and brush my teeth. Also, you may have purchased the wrong solution because there are stronger varients. You should only use the 3% solution and dilute 1 part peroxide to 2 parts water. If you already have the 1.5% solution, you do not need to dilute it.

@@FieldOfFocus: I have a weird question. It’s VERY interesting that there were substantial bacterial colonies left in the bathroom sink of all places. Do you think it’s possible that it was beneficial bacteria? I’m just curious of your thoughts? Sorry if that’s a gross question, but there are two reasons why I wonder this: 1. There are both good AND bad bacteria in the mouth (as we know) and the bathroom sink is where we brush our teeth and such so obviously you spit in it (at least when you brush and rinse), right? Well, peroxide, as it’s made by the beneficial bacteria in the body/gut to kill dysbiotic/pathogenic cultures, probably will not kill good bacteria because it’s not made to do so. So could it be possible that the cultures in the sink that it would NOT kill were the beneficial ones?🤔 2. I used to use peroxide as a mouthwash (just a drop of it with water and swished), but soon started to question if it was killing off too many of the good cultures in my mouth and NOW (because of this video) I’m wondering if I was wrong?🤔 Again, just curious of your thoughts?
@FieldOfFocus
@FieldOfFocus 2 года назад
Great thoughts!! It is possible that the beneficial mouth bacteria is still there! I think it is a good thing to think about. I have considered attempting to identify the bacteria.. that is something I might tackle this summer. I would have a little more time to dedicate to testing out if I can identify bacteria. Great video, just wanted to point out that the moving painters tape probably contaminated your bathroom sink dish sample. The tape moved and you dabbed the paper towel on the surface under the tape(obviously unintentionally while you were just trying to dry the intended swab area) and then redabbed the same towel on the same side of the towel on the surface that you swabbed for the sample. I'm no doctor but to me it seems clear, that this is the source of the bacteria in the A-region of the bathroom sink dish. It cant really be assumed that the surface under the tape was uniformly coated with peroxide, and/or for the same amount of time as the intended test surface. Unless of course you resprayed the area off-camera, after the tape moved, then that would obviously change my opinion. Regardless! Glad I saw this, I've never seen this before.

Hi. These are great videos. I would like to make a suggestion. The way I use hydrogen peroxide is the 2 spray bottle technique. One contains Hydrogen peroxide and the other contains white vinegar. I spray either one first, coating the surface pretty well, and then immediately spray the other one on that wet surface. It is the chemical reaction of the mixing that does the disinfecting. I suppose waiting a few minutes is in order before wiping it off. Putting both products in the same bottle defeats the purpose. I would love to see you give that a try. Thank you

I was just thinking about this video and I remembered reading elsewhere that hydrogen peroxide reacts with a lot of metals and it led me to wonder if it might break down more quickly on some metal surfaces as well. Just wondering if that seems plausible to you. In that case, I wonder if it might help to come back and spray the area again after 5 minutes or to use a 6% concentration on those surfaces. Edit: I realize your bathroom sink isn't metal, but I thought you may have swabbed the outer part of the drain. It's a bit hard to tell in the video.

Were the swabs, painter's tape, wiping towel, spray bottle, your hands, and the collection tray sterilized before you began collecting the samples? Any bacteria on those will affect the results of both the before and after samples. In addition, the ambient air in the room and your breath can also contaminate the immediate environment. Also, any particles in the air coming from an A/C vent would be a variable. It would be interesting to see the results after performing the same test over the course of several days.

@@FieldOfFocus Thanks for telling me about the disclaimer. I didn't see it before. My post was not intended to discredit your tests, but merely to point out a few variables that would affect the outcome. I think it's great you did this. Even though it was not done in a lab, it proves that no matter how clean we believe our homes are, bacteria can be found everywhere, with some areas being worse than others. After I watched your video, I went to the kitchen to set up our coffee maker. As I was doing so, your video was fresh in my memory, so I grabbed a Lysol wipe and thoroughly wiped down that whole area. It also moved me to wonder how we even manage to survive with so much bacteria covering everything around us. Some say some bacteria is good while other kinds are harmful, especially when it comes to bacteria in our mouths. It's just too bad they are not visible to the naked eye....like color-coded or something. LOL But then again, that would probably just freak us all out. I wonder if God thought so, as well, when He was creating them. Hmmmm

I've seen that in the culture of Mushrooms they put a 3% H2O2 in the Petri substrate (Agar Agar, Malt, 3% H2O2 and …), "to clean from contaminants (in nature harvesting of Mycelium strains). This would mean that Spors aren’t so sensible to H2O2. Maybe the contaminants in the Bathroom Sink probe are mycelium, so the Solution of 3% H2O2 killed bacteria and viruses but not mycelium. Next day you'll have peeling skin. Happens to me when I don't use gloves when wiping off surfaces with a paper towel that becomes saturated. Or if I spray something and get overspray on my hand and don't notice until it begins to sting and turn white where it was. For wounds just use soap and water.

How do different areas make any difference unless the surfaces are of different porosity? Just saying to allow product to absorb into or not... like ive heard that if you have moldy wood then bleach will only clean the surface but will still continue to mold from spores inside. But peroxide will actually get into those areas where the mold did and kill it.. but a plastic or melamine surface will be the same surface no matter where it is. Only some places it will have more bacterial growth than others.. so these different tests will only be clarification onto which types of bacteria peroxide will kill in the 5 minute window.. unless the bacteria are determined these tests will go on and seem to have mixed results throughout your testing even if you tested the same area over and over, each would be different unless you managed to get the same type of bacteria in the same areas every time..
@FieldOfFocus
@FieldOfFocus 2 года назад
Hi there! So various areas in the home have different type of bacteria on them. Example in the bathroom the toilet would have more exposure to E.Coli (from fecal matter) and perhaps the kitchen has more exposure to salmonella (chicken and eggs) etc. You make a great point that various surfaces do have different levels of being porous, which most certainly could impact the bacteria there. For my channel I do have this disclaimer on every video “DISCLAIMER: All of the bacterial experiments that I perform are conducted in my home which does not have the same conditions as a laboratory, and is for entertainment only.” I am not trying to replicate a laboratory setting where we get a vial of B.Subtilis and inoculate a surface then test a cleaner. I am testing how cleaners work in a real world setting of my home, which does not have the same controls that a lab (knowing the type of bacteria present) would have. I don’t have a way to test if a cleaner can be absorbed into wood to clean mold.. I just don’t. If I come up with a way to test that I will most certainly perform it. But for now, I am just testing household cleaners in real life situations where you do not know what types of bacteria are present. I appreciate your watching and commenting. Thank you.
