Hydrostatic Transmission Control Repair, Part 2 - Cub Cadet 1772

Now that we understand the root of the problems with the hydrostatic transmission control system on Jeff’s Cub Cadet 1772, we’re installing the replacement bracket and plate along with new buttons and springs, but first we’ll take a moment to marvel at the wear evident on the old parts when we break out the calipers to compare them to the new. Once we’ve used our new shims and snap rings to achieve a tight fit, we’ll test the system and adjust for neutral.

It is amazing how you can do some of this stuff in your sleep. Great video. I find it interesting that this Cub has a Kubota Engine. Kind of wild since that was a competitor to Cub Cadet I guess. Either way I would love to have that tractor. My 1641 is great though. Thank you for posting.

I have a cub cadet 129 that the hydro control was a complete mess the one plate needed a plastic bushing that was non existent and the pin that was welded on was at a angle. Lucky enough i had purchased a 1450 ported pump since i put the hydraulic lift on the 129 and it had better plates. New bushing and buttons and springs and now the hyrdo doesn't want to go full speed.

Can you manually move the control to get full stroke on the pump?

yeah when i discovered the mess the control was in i spent the money getting the springs and buttons along with the bushing to fix the issue. At one point in its life it had been repainted and taken apart.@@SolunaGarage

I have a 2284 and it definitely acts a little bit like what you're describing on up and down hill grades, and with 1230hrs it could be worn out, however there is a slight leak from the extreme axle braces i installed, and it may be low on fluid. Would that cause this too?

No, most likely the issue is in the control linkage. Unless you are severely low on fluid, and in that case you would see other issues related to insufficient fluid level.

@@SolunaGarage ok thanks for reply and the video in such great detail! Nope the lift and steering all working flawlessly except for a little noise. Will have to take a look at these components and any other source of leak while im in there. I want to clean the cooling fins off too. The deck kicks up so much debris in there.

I just bought a cub cadet 1782 with the D640 Kubota and I cant get to start this tractor is something completely new to me ive drained the old diesel out of it put fresh fuel into it cleaned my lines and bled my injectors but its still just cranking and smoking like crazy would you have any tricks and hits for me? Note I've tested the fuel pump and itd getting constant pressure thank you for youre time

Are your glow plugs working? What is the ambient temperature when you are trying to get it to start?

thanks for your video, I have a 3208 the ring gear and the transmission the bolts came out do you know what the recommended torque is for those bolts? Thanks 😊

I'm not sure what the torque value is, but being a 3/8-24 plated fastener it should be about 25-30 ft lbs. I would clean very thoroughly the bolts and mating threads and apply a threadlocker to make sure they do not back out again.

I am thinking that the 2.pump bolts on the transmission would be about the same torque I took it off just to check the gears. ? Thanks again 🤠

Probably a little less, I believe those are smaller diameter bolts, if you are talking about the charge pump housing bolts. That is an oring seal there, too so there isn't a lot of torque required.
