Hey thank you for watching and a couple of things: - Some of the text is blurry because I was using Vegas Pro and it crashed countless times, so I decided to upload it once it didn't crash for once on rendering (I had to adjust some sound or something in my editor timeline). The mistake was from adding motion blur to the moving text, it oddly becomes blurry as soon as it stops moving, it did not show that however in the preview window. - I titled the video "Hytale was never supposed to release" because I really don't think Riot ever cared whether it released or not, they were a massive whale so gaining a company like this was a status move rather than contributing anything. The people running Hypixel Studios will keep getting paid an engineer's salary while working at the slowest possible rate possible because they are allowed to, and Riot doesn't care because they are rich. Hytale could have released a long time ago. I know I didn't fully cover their excuse of remaking the game engine as the reason for the delay, but, I wanted to get this video out there because why not. - I could care less if Hytale comes out, I have personally spoken to the owners of three of those voxel game projects, and I would rather mess around with voxel web games since they are more accessible to people. The Minecraft community looks down upon them despite them helping give a lot of the people who can't afford Minecraft or can't play it, something to do. You can join our Minecraft server at mc.pixelgrew.net Pixelgrew (we call it The Pixel, sorry Hypixel) is meant to become it's own game and I have been in talks with the Tesera people and they have some extremely impressive tech despite being a web browser game. So our Minecraft server might end up becoming it's own standalone game in the future. Tesera however is not ready yet for production, I was able to spawn in hundreds of boats pushes against each other, while in the browser, so the game is really well optimized.

Your premises are a lot of assumptions and some of what you're saying is just flat out wrong. For example Hytale wasn't announced a decade ago. The first official announcement was a countdown on the Hytale website. The game started being developed in 2015 but that's a lot different than it being announced.
@cubedimensions

They said it was in the works/planning in 2015 which I still consider it an announcement, even if there was no trailer.

This theory makes no sense at all, the reason why the game is taking so long is very clear and they have been extremely transparent about it. They also tweeted they are not affected by Riot’s layoffs and the production plan hasnt changed. Read their blog and you’ll understand. Rewriting a custom engine from scratch to support multiple platforms isnt something you do in one year.
@virtual_newvegas

your absolutely right game engines are a pain to make for a single platform, let alone a cross platform one
@cubedimensions
@cubedimensions 7 месяцев назад
The point I am trying to make: they remade the custom engine as an excuse so they could keep their jobs for several more years. Imagine if you were living paycheck to paycheck, having your health insurance paid for, and you had many friends you made working at a company that could lose their jobs. They are purposely making excuses to delay things so they can all keep their jobs and take absolutely no risk whatsoever.

@@cubedimensionsi see where your coming from, but then again i doubt riot would turn a blind eye on a project they poured so much cash into, in other words every decision they make will have to go through riot
@cubedimensions
@cubedimensions 7 месяцев назад
@@virtual_newvegas It is sometimes very hard to recruit very loyal and talented people to your company, I for example listed Skiff as an example, Notion bought them out, shut the product down, and simply absorbed their team, not stating if they had any intent to implement their important technologies. Riot isn't turning a blind eye but simply doesn't care because funding a project like this is a drop in a bucket. Riot from a quick Google search grosses 2.64 million per day, if Hypixel Studios has 100 employees, each being paid on average $100K (some are being paid $50k but get health insurance, benefits and such) that's $10 million - $15 million per year in funding. Funding the salaries of all those employees and a studio is simply around a week of Riot Game's normal operations which is a drop in a bucket for them. Hytale is just another basket for them and they would care, but, not as much as anyone would think, whether they released or not. There was also a chance of other companies acquiring Hytale/Hypixel Studios, such as even Microsoft, so it makes sense why they did this.
@virtual_newvegas

@@cubedimensionsi see what your talking about, and as you said they're are many examples of this, but on the other hand there are examples of this happening to a game only for them to release, an example of this would be tf2, who went through many phases in both goldsrc and the source engine before releasing in 2007, it spent a total of nine years in development hell
@cravenmarigold7750

this video was randomly in my reccomended and I expected it to just kinda, talk about the devs just being silent and how that's infuriating or whatever but to make a "theory" of Riot using this to just get talent and how the devs are just being "lazy" in the comments to get easy paychecks is... quite the statement. I don't think you even need to be a game developer to understand how ludicrous this concept this even is! Worse if you do know at least the basic process of game dev Hytale was announced far too early and very early in its desgin stage (which means things would change a lot). The game was far too ambitious and the devs were in over their heads, especially with initial release dates targets, on multiple platforms! I don't think people realize how insane that is. Then the engine switch as well, which means restarting from scratch, trying to plan the console and mobile versions, on top of feature parity between every platform... and also being bought out means a way bigger scope in design typically. Smaller projects when they get funding often scale up after having more money to do such a thing! examples of indie games are games like Hollow Knight and Silksong, missing release windows for years. Omori I know as an example too, with over 6 years in the making. and those are games way less ambitious then whatever Hytale is trying to be. Simply more funds, especially when you start out small, typically means more ambition, which can be good or bad depending on circumstances. But if you were given the opportunity to do more with a game if you were given more money and time, wouldn't you try to do even more than initially planned? The theory just doesn't even make sense and the most logical reasoning is just, game development is complicated and sometimes messy. To imply they're lazy or this is a scheme is outright silly.
@cubedimensions
@cubedimensions 7 месяцев назад
Startups are bought and absorbed by larger companies all the time, with the startup never releasing any product or discontinuing their product. The engine switch, which I should have covered in the video but I didn't, I believe was a way to mitigate risk for themselves as much as possible. There was definitely content they could have released, and chose not to do so. Valve for example has produced and made prototypes of the third games they don't announce but they don't finish or release them. I do believe Hytale will release, however, I believe it was delayed as long as humanly possible by the leadership to get paid more. The people at Hytale might disagree with me, but, there is a reason why Riot has enabled this behavior, and it's because they are a whale and consider them a small investment, mostly a backup plan for if their other games go down the drain. No one is going to risk their well paying W2 job for anything, there is a risk of losing their job and they've mitigated the risk by asking for another half a decade to fool around, only to finally be put under pressure to finally get something out because their parent company is now in the red and wants to see the fruits of something they were careless about.

There isn't a recession in the gaming industry, the layoffs are a just part of the industry's boom and bust cycle. Riot Games' revenue is better than ever and will keep rising
@cubedimensions
@cubedimensions 7 месяцев назад
You don't think there is a recession in the gaming industry? I think there is a recession everywhere. The U.S. dollar has inflated and prices have gone up, and companies like Aldis are watering down their product and lowering portion size if they haven't increased the prices. The biggest indicator we're in a recession is the dollar store is literally shutting down thousands of stores and raising the maximum price to $5, a company that never increased their prices beyond $1 for three decades and announced the change is permanent. I think it's clear things are getting worse in regards to the economy.

Yeah.. it was supposed to come out And it have a very high chance of releasing xD Like i wanna say we are getting close to that initial estimate they gave after being acquired by riot Like it feels you only selected stuff that backs up your out there theory I think Riot probably sees great value in a minecraft competetors, they arent gonna let this investment lead to nothing This was no small investment by Riot I genuinely believe Riot want this game to release and they want it to release strong This feels very clickbaity Jeez the blurryness is aweful like jeez my eyes hurt now
@cubedimensions
@cubedimensions 7 месяцев назад
Sorry for the blurryness, the video crashed several times on render and it was literally a .ogg sound that crashed Vegas over and over, I had to end task to shut it off. I didn't want to correct it because of all the work it took to literally render this video, I figured out what the issue was. Riot does see value in Hytale but the point I was trying to make is: they don't really care whether Hytale releases or not because they can absorb that entire team into their company if they decided to just give up one day, and the people working at Hytale are purposely making excuses so they can continue to be paid well. Because they are no longer indie, they have infinite funding and thus, they are allowed to be almost infinitely lazy. I think it will come out but seeing how startup acquisitions work, it sometimes doesn't result in the startup continuing to operate and the team being absorbed, and Hytale being absorbed by Riot was a status move rather than a contribution to the industry. The cost to fund Hytale, going off $50k-$150k per year paying each of the 100 employees would be as much as around a week to two weeks of revenue for Riot, it's a drop in the bucket for them.

@@elechain2441 We're at a 60% dislike ratio, a video with a 60% dislike ratio means it's more controversial thus more views and more engagement. It just seems coincidental that they decided to make such a crazy decision to destroy their foundation and start a new the second they gained a nearly infinite funding source, I really believe they are just living cozy jobs and are going at the slowest pace as humanly possible because they are allowed to. I am not saying people should overwork themselves but, I think this went from "we're under pressure and everything is over if we fail" to "it doesn't really matter whether we succeed, we are still getting paid very well at the end of the day" I am going to work on a less edited video right now breaking down some personal experience I had and relate it to what I believe is happening with the Hytale team.

Thank you I am watching my view count right now, it's really exciting since I don't have any practice making long-form videos. Long story short, Riot is a whale and buying a company like Hytale is pocket change for them, Hypixel may have the entirety of the Minecraft market but Riot has the biggest games on the global market, so keeping Hytale afloat is nothing for them. A lot of massive companies buy out these companies, shut them down, just so they can acquire their employees and get the social status of absorbing that startup.

@cubedimensions
@cubedimensions 7 месяцев назад
The point of the video was that Riot didn't care about whether Hytale released or not because keeping loyal and skilled employees at your company is one of the moves that is done in the industry in regards to buying startups, Hytale's yearly burn is only a week or two of revenue for Riot Games. A good portion of startups that are acquired simply stop operating and they absorb their talent, which Riot in a way did. Riot wants to finally make a return because they are losing money and were forced to lay off a part of their workforce. The video wasn't saying that Hytale is cancelled but rather, Riot could care less if it took them 10-20 years to finish because their intent is way different from what they publicly say. It was important that Riot took control of Hytale because there was a chance Microsoft or another company could snag Hytale as they were burning a good amount of money. Microsoft quickly took advantage of Notch's wish to retire by immediately offering him $2 billion (he got most of the $2 billion from the buyout) and the same thing is paralleled with Simon being overworked and Riot taking advantage of that as well.

@@7thgeneration903 Passionate people work on the game, but, try getting a job in this economy, if you were paying off your car and your house, wouldn't you want to mitigate the risk of losing your job as much as possible? The point I make is that Riot doesn't care enough to release the game and they could care less whether it releases or not because the cost to operate Hypixel Studios is a week of Riot's normal operations, they still care, but, will let them fool around and keep them on as a backup plan for if their other games don't do so hot. I met someone who had a lot of trouble recruiting competent people despite his high budget in the green, while I did say they risk being fired if the game fails, startups that are bought out, sometimes will completely shut down and the employees are absorbed into the company, and it has happened time and time again. Skiff being one of the examples, another example being when Twitter/X after Elon's buyout, bought a job board startup and never did anything at all with it. Do I think Hytale will release? I believe Riot is pressuring them to, and that's the point of this video, Riot wants to make more profit during a recession, and, if this recession hadn't happened they likely would have let Hypixel Studios make more excuses to delay the game even further.
