i´v owned a 2018 pre-facelift 1.2L i20 since early 2019 and after 5 years of owner ship and 3 trips across Europe it is still going strong and it has been absolutely faultless, the only thing i have had to change (apart from regular yearly maintenance) were the rear brake pads. Try that with a 6 year old VW or Ford....
Why are most people in the comments hating this car? It is hell lot of a car for the price. We have one as a city car in the family (alongside A6 allroad) and it is a super value for the money. We paid like 11.500 eur for the medium trim with alloy wheels and 1.4 (4cyl) petrol engine (which is btw 100 bhp, which is pretty good for a 1.200kg car). Reliability and usability is pretty good too (no problems in 2 years whatsoever). Yes it does not have the infotainment etc (in most European markets it is only in the highest trim), but what you want for the price. One thing though I do not agree with the review: it is really noisy at highway speeds. It is just a car for the city (not mentioning the gearbox with super short gears - and that is the 6spd one). But as a value car for the city it excels imo.
0:58 - I would agree with you on the entry level car not having air con. I mean, who really wants to buy a car in 2018 that doesn’t have air conditioning?!
My 2012 i20 came loaded with auto lights and viper, 4 disc brakes with abs and ebd, tilt and telescopic steering, front and rear fog lamps, auto dimming RVM, Electric and heated ORVM, reverse camera with sensors, stereo with 6 speakers, dual airbags apart from the usuals like air con and powered all round windows etc. Also, its 1.4 lt 90 hp diesel with enough punch although I have tuned it for 120 hp with simple mods. Its makes an excellent car for intercity travel and is comfortable.
I am very impressed by the i20. I would not buy it as of now but if I was getting a car of that size today, yea maybe I would get it. Never thought I would say that I could possibly get a Hyundai a couple of years ago.
Just hired one of these, nice car, no gimmicks it was fairly basic with aircon. Decent ride and seems well built. 1 year old with 4 years warranty remaining for £8k makes it a good buy !
I drive it now for almost a year and i am extremly happy with it. It drives great and for the price, you get a very nice and good looking car. Go for the 1.0 l Turbo tough
I am a fan of your reviews and you are getting better every time... I also can see a good flow in the new vedios this year which is great... So continue the good work 👍 ☺
I brought a new one just before christmas love it i got the premium se with the armrest and no sat nav but can easily attach your phone to the dashboard as long as you don't have an LG like i do . All in all very happy
I've just collected my new (used i20) and I'm really impressed so far, it's got lots of equipment and good safety features. It drives well but the engine does lack a bit of punch so I need to be sure when I move off at a roundabout so that I won't get caught out when another car comes. It's okay when it's up to speed on the motorway and can keep pace with traffic. All in all a great value car with lots of equipment and space. A real bang for your buck. PS 45mpg combined seems pretty good for a 1.2 petrol.
If you're going for Price alone. Go for the i20. It's also technically more reliable according to consumer surveys. Quality and ride will be better with the Polo however. That said. If you want a cheaper car with Polo guts, I'd consider the SEAT Ibiza as well. Great car for the budget!
Oh the Indian version gets a lot more goodies but looses something too... V get automatic Projector headlights, auto climate control(on higher spec variants),rear AC vents, centre arm rest. But v only have a 1.2l petrol and a 1.4 turbo diesel... Sadly no turbo petrol and no false floor on boot... Am a proud owner of this car...
I'm confused. I own an i20 and am 6 foot, and when I push the driver seat all the way back to my driving position there is NO way adult can sit behind me. Rear seat legroom is good for a toddler at best with tall adults in the front. It is supremely comfortable to drive though (for this segment) :)
I’ve had the i20 active for 2 years now. Pros: Well built 1.0 t-gdi has good performance The parts you touch feel luxury. Cruise control is on the right side of steering wheel. Cons: No infotainment on pretty much all models. Engine only gets about 70% of claimed economy. A lot of grey plastic. Cheap seats. Non existent suspension.
This video wouldn’t help me decide which car to buy in B segment, it wasn’t compared to its competition but “it’s okay for a car in this price range” 🤗 didn’t help Mat, thanks for the video
Got this car (the middle range 87bhp) two months ago and I love it. It looks great, huge on the inside, handles well and even at this power level isn't too lazy if you shift right. I did bought and installed a third party Android screen with Bluetooth, reversing camera and all, and replaced those horrible speakers. Go ahead and buy it.
I tought you had a OnePlus 5... so why when talking about the speaker's you're showing us an HTC? Is it because the OnePlus (which is also what I have) only has ONE speaker? =))
Hello Sir Irrespective of segment,Which car has better ride comfort, safety feature, better engine ,better automatic transmission Maintenance ,mileage, better build quality ,better design and overall winner--CRETA SX 1.5 IVT or the City VX CVT
Because it sells better in India. The new model will have it's global debut at the Indian Auto Expo 2018. It's the car that gave Hyundai a more powerful stance in India alongside the Grand i10.
Juraj Barbuš i think its mostly due to the countries weather conditions. In the uk front ac vents would probably be more then adequate for the hottest day but in india even with rear ac vents you will still be sweating between your cracks.
Have the 2016 SE 1l turbo, Annoying things - drivers seat appalling, mine has broken the inside rear seat adjuster in warranty, dealer was not interested have to live with a wobbly seat. Seat belt not height adjustable. Those nice indicators in the wing mirrors cost £110 plus VAT each. The rear parcel shelf support broke on a return from Poole. Fuel consumption is 29mpg to 34mpg on motorway. Speedo under reads by 3.5 @ 30mph, 4 @40mph. Very vocal engine (look at me I do 99bhp and sound like a misfiring 205gti). Torque is ok from stop. But if you follow the gear suggestion you will find that 24 in 2nd is far quicker than 24 in 3rd, steep hills are shite, but there is a hill hold if you run out of power and need to do an up hill 4500 rpm start. Strange noises, on braking there is a clonking sound - OSR, oddly only heard by me and everyone else, but not the dealer. And other uneven roads the NSR spring sounds like it has broken, thankfully both these noises are not MOT Fails, just like the drivers seat that wobbles inside rear on any hieght setting except top, when I can't get my knees under the steering wheel - which isn't friendly to the larger framed person. The original tyres had band lines in them and were cracking after 2 years, might be a result of being stored in full sun at the Turkey plant. Dealer support, well I am on dealer number 2, the original failed to pick car up for service 3 and have been to the next nearest dealer who wanted to charge me to inspect the seat under warrranty - which clearly wobbles, prices are high and with £110 for a wing mirror indicator scratch, spotted on this MOT but not the previous, along with a 1mm crack in the outer letter of the front number plate, they are desperate for work, referring 2 items that have passed during all MOT's to date. Keep or Go - its going. Sorry Hyundai, but when your dealer chooses to charge to look at a clear warranty repair, and finds the most smallest crack on indicator and numberplate to be repaired under the MOT, then you have lost me as a customer.
It's just called i20 here, in India European trim cars are often sold as a more luxury car because there is a huge difference in standards. And yes, it can definitely use a facelift.
I think the rear end has been revamped and the diesel has been removed from the lineup also the infotainment system had been updated. I prefer the old rear of the car personally.
Why is this video uploaded in January, when it clearly was reviewed at summer time? Has this something to do with some special release date - embargo? As much as I'm concerned this car isn't exactly new, isn't it?
Tea Kay There is a lot of editing involved in these videos. And if your filming a few cars a week, there would soon be a backlog of editing needing done.
Are Hyundais as reliable as toyotas ? Are hyundais reliable at all? I really like the look and price of this car, but I've never had a hyundai before and dont know what they're like
Here in Brazil, Hyundai launched HB20 instead of the i20. In terms of design, the HB20 is looks better than the i20. But, in terms of safety, the i20 (as well as all cars in UK and Europe) is waaaay better than the HB20! Anyway, another great review of Carwow!!!
Guys, Im stuck. I am used to drive Ford Cougar 2.0l 96kW atmospheric, Alfa Romeo Brera 2.4l 147kW turbo. Now we plan a baby, moving etc. So I need to pick a new family car. Price tag is around Hyundai i20, Kia Rio, Peugeot 208, Peugeot 301, Toyota Yaris, Suzuki Swift, maybe Ford Fiesta. All year 2018. Problem is all those cars have around 60-70kW. I dont want three cars or two (my wallet already bleeds for first two mentioned cars). Which car in price range can you recommend me that isnt boring (slow as dying snail) and is family car? Tough one.
Grunf ! couldnt say it any better. I own one of the older models, and I have to say i dont feel ripped off. The price was ultra cheap for a new car and its still driving like a tank after 6 years with 104.000km with no repairs.
I own i20 in india they offer 6 airbags, DRL and Projector Headlight with Auto Light, Also Center Arm Rest is available from Base model, It has auto a/c with rear a/c vents. They sell better feature loaded car in india but in india we dont have 1L turbo
Mat can you please make a review of the new 2017 facelifted Alfa Romeo guilietta which has improved so much than the old one that you have reviewed for carbuyer.. I’m in the market to buy myself(26 years old) a car and I can’t decide which is better opel astra or Alfa giulietta.. my mind says astra but my heart goes with the beautiful giulietta(exterior and interior).. you ve made a review for astra, but I would like to see a “in-depth review” for giulietta from you and I think that no one reviewed the new one so this would help many who are after alfa as an alternative..
Hello from India ! The funny thing is this car is one of the major selling cars of our country , and it looks much better with led drls , plus ur base model price is our top model price 😀
I really like Hyundai lately, they're really putting a lot of effort into making their cars. I think though, that this car should, if not must, have a better fuel economy
I own this car the biggest problem i have with Hyundai and Kia is that the Gearbox usually struggles going into reverse and 1st gear and the economy is not really great i drive around town and i only get 30.3 MPG plus they are quite slow which is not very good in this day and age. They really need to get rid of these dated gearboxes and engines.
I20 is a great car. My dad has a third one going. 1st was 1.4, 2nd this featured model and now hi has a MY19 version. The newest has an MPG of 55 and very sufficient power for every day use. Only thing I would get as an extra is the vision package, as we live here in the dark, Finland. The stock H4 is rubbish, yesterday fitted a couple of auxiliary high beams on dad's car. The difference is like night and day! The 2nd car had better light output with projector headlamps (which are extra in the new one). Also fitted HB3 HID xenon kit in those. Visibility was awsome, and beam pattern was very sharp.
Nice review, nice little car. First thing I'd do is change every bulb I could to LED. And wow, I just can't wrap my head around the tiny engine trend, turbo or not.
This would have been yes. the 2019 facelift model you've just bought should also have auto-emergency breaking. Making it a 5 Star Euro N-Cap rated car (Although not officially).
