Holy moly. 690k rand is 58k Aud. I'm currently looking at a 2019 model in grey brand new for 44k Aud. Ther are very expensive indeed where you are my friend.
I've been waiting for this car to hit SA for 2 years now. Hyundai SA have always cited the exchange rate as their biggest hurdle. This car was meant to be sold in numbers, like the GTi. In fact, it's sole purpose was to beat the GTi. But here I believe is where Hyundai SA got greedy. 2 years ago, well even a year ago the exchange rate was not as bad as it is today, why not import it then? But no, they did it now, when the exchange rate was sky high, and now call it a limited edition to justify the price? Well guess what, this car was not meant to be a limited edition, it was supposed to be sold in numbers (again, GTi comparison). As much as I love this car, it's not worth that price. And what Hyundai SA have done in the process is turned everyone off from their N version cars as this one specifically was meant to be the market penetrator. And you can't penetrate a market with "limited editions"
I love this car would love to own one but the price is just a letdown maybe will wait until the price comes down other wise gti is wear am looking at know
Funny how the i30N is so expensive in SA, while in Germany they easily undercut VWs considering price. A new i30N is less than a used Mk7R. I think Hyundai sold around 8000 of these just in Germany... they’re everywhere
Awesome Car ... I love it and I have driven it ... And yes I love it over my Golf GTI ... But the price though is not worth it ... I would rather buy a used 2019 Golf R with less than 10000kms ...
Had to be 50-75k to be a mkt disruptor..they didnt and paid the price with their idiotic mkt campaign. Maybe the gti..s3s and 140s are slightly inferior if any..but the status still sits with them. Hyundai failed here and this is a great car.
Yes I will agree it is a good car but I'm leaning more to the Gti Okay if you want a normal everyday family car buy the Golf Gti If you want abit more power buy the Clubsport Yes it is abit more expensive but you pay for what you get. If you want something in between get the TCR Gti I feel Volkswagen made multiple Golf 7's for each liking And you can pick up a decent second hand Gti for around 300k and if you want more power There is always upgrades That's my opinion
Regarding the price, I think that is why Hyundai is selling these as demo's but I'm sold. Given aftersales package you get a piece of mind for the next 7 years if you keeping the car
This car was never meant to come to SA because of how expensive it would've been, they were never going to sell like the competition does. But...people made a plea to Hyundai and they obliged, although in limited numbers. Interestingly for some reason, everybody complains about its price now that it's here. Also, you can forget about it being in the 2nd hand market because he who buys it, will inevitably hold on to it.
Great review but I have to stress that it is not balanced in my view...the i30N comes fully loaded there is no box to tick that adds to the price one pays. Please edit and include such. It comes with panaropic sunroof for one...which I think one would have to add on the base gold. Anyway with covid 19 I can't take the leap of faith and have one park at my house...maybe let's start GoFundMe account 😭

This car had all the potential to have been a GTI killer - if it was about R100K cheaper. I personally think they overpriced this vehicle considering it's Hyundai. Nothing wrong with a Hyundai, but they should have provided more 'value for car', considering they want to compete with the well established performance hatchback of VW... Kinda makes the choice of choosing a hot hatch simpler for anyone though. Sorry Hyundai
I wouldn't really compare this to an M car or AMG.. Performance wise or interior this lags behind. Comparing to a GTI, ST, RS, Type R makes more sense.
Hyandai and Honda really don't know how to price their performance cars properly. Who in their right mind would spend 600k/700k on a 6 second hatchback when you can get proper AMG/M power for that money?
I long for the day when the pop and crackle exhausts are a thing of the past. Bring back the authentic, raspy sounding exhausts. Also, the music on these reviews, much like the interior of the i30N, tends to be a letdown. Nice review otherwise
This is a good car. And why it is so succesfull abroad is because it offers a lot more than a Gti for a lot less money. This Hyundai is much cheaper than the Gti in Europe, Australia etc etc. But here in good old SA, Hyundai is ripping us off by pricing this thing stupidly. This is a R450 000 car even with our useless Rand. Hyundai SA is screwing us. Buy a Megane, faster, better looking and R120 000 cheaper.
I also want to blame Hyundai for this car's sales performance...they did not introduce the lesser models in our market therefore we could not be able to see the escalation to the cream that is the i30N. People are not able to make the connection in terms of cost when comparing other offerings in the range....we are hatchback mad in this country we bought focus RS...they they come and hit us with i30N without lesser models damned those guys...
You can't say this car is better than a Gti, A gti paved a platform for this car to even exist. Either you get the original or the replica claimed improved
What is going on. In Europa and in the rest of the world Hyundai is much cheaper than all other Cars. I have buy me the last of the old serie 2 month ago for 30k Euros, a Golf 8 GTI with 245ps cost 47k, and a AMG with so many HP.... hahaha 70k. Megan RS 40k.
