Thanks for the video. I live in Sweden and got an IONIQ Electric. Think that I can confirm your conclusions about IONIQ. I've drove in -23 C and got about 130 km range from start, with a preheated car. It's a really good winter car as well as an electric car. :-)
Hallo! Thanks for your informative videos! I live in Sweden and are an owner of the same car model as yours, a Hyundai Ioniq electric, 28 kW. My experience of winter range is exactly the same as yours. When the temperature drops to around - 15 °, the range is half of the summer range. So the it decreases from 230 km to 130 km. The car still does it's jobb well as a medium range car, but as a driver you have to be aware of this behavior. I believe that the battery suffers from the love temperature and is unable to release more power.
Wow Eric, you are the first person that has ever responded to a query of mine. As the Aussies would say good on you mate! Good information well presented. I hope you show us the cars data there and back for the planed February trip.
Well I really do try.. Like I said, I really cant do a long range test, but I will continue to do what I can to help people understand the abilities of this car. Thanks you so much for the comment.
Maybe you can get better range if you use narrower wheels This will also be a good idea in the summer provided you do not exced 90 km/h. Best regards from Cairo
Thanks Eric. You have about the same commute as I do and it's good to know that even on cold days, I'd have a good reserve of power when I get home. Great commentary about range anxiety too - I learned early on that driving an EV is simply a different mind set about what you use it for. When I need to go on a long trip (about 4 times a year), I'll rent a car with the money I saved in gas!
Getting my EVDuty charger on Monday. Will be installed sometime this month. Waiting on Hydro. I have to upgrade my service to the house as well. Still no car on the horizon. Hyundai Kitchener said I could get into a 2017 SE that just came in. Think I'll still wait for my limited to show up. you can come up for a visit. :) Cambridge, Ont
Have you ever tried charging the car before the evening, so its at 165KM range, and then roll it outside for the night to see how the range changes, and to see if the computer adjusts its estimated range properly? Just wondering if the computer adjusts the range properly, or if you are gonna get a nasty surprise while driving.
I’m not sure if I heard you right that your dog sleeps in the cold garage, but if that’s true that’s horrible, if it’s so cold there why doesn’t your dog live inside?
Are you satisfied with your car? You've had it for awhile now. I'm thinking about investing in one. Been test-driving it twice. Been looking at a Niro plugin aswell. They're not too much apart in price to be honest.
I am very satisfied with the car. The Niro is nice but I wanted a full electric car. My understanding is that they will be coming out with a full electric version of the Niro also..
