yep - saved me a bunch of money too - mine somehow got an acorn in it! Was vibrating like crazy - the whole dashboard was shaking. Checked this out, took the motor out, cleaned it up, put it back, and we're back to normal. Thanks!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I had a horribly loud hum when I used the blower motor on my Santa Fe. Using your video, I quickly got it out and found a big leaf in there. Works perfectly now. Thank you for the detailed video! It was a quick, easy fix. I would never have even attempted this without your video.
Yes now I can do this myself lol ;) I am going to do this soon...I was afraid of hear the noise that it was my heater shitting the bed...But I did have sand in my filter for some reason...that was crazy...so thank you ;)
To get the fan off drill or melt 2 or 3 holes in the fan hub, then get some 1/8 gauge wire that you bend hooks on its ends and loop the other ends that slide into a long threaded bolt with a nut on the fan side of the wire loops using the bolt end of the fan motor so that the wire and bolt becomes a puller to wind/pull the fan off the shaft.
If I check the blower motor outlet and have ground and power does that mean it can't be the temp. control switch? I replaced the switch a few months ago and I'm just trying to rule out that being it. Thanks in advance
John, WD40 is not a lubricant. It is a water dispersant. Using any other oil would of been the ticket. I would use of used some synthetic Mobil 1. Blowing the bushing out with air will also help "before" using the oil to get any micro bushing debris out so just lubricant is there and not a slurry of lubricant and bushing dust that could have cutting action and or a "paste" action after the oil is gone.
Did you ever find out how to get the fan off? I have a slightly older model, 2004, and it the full motor housing is just one big plastic piece. So I'm not sure how I'm supposed to get into this thing. Removed the retaining ring but its really stuck there.
Nevermind, I got both the housing and the fan off! The housing on this model has 3 clips that you can get to with a screwdriver, theyre located in the inside, in the gap between the fan and the housing (you kind of need to pry a millimeter or two to get in there). As for removing the fan, I placed the fan part on top of a ledge on my outdoors sofa, while keeping the actual fan motor hanging free, then I took a screwdriver and pushed through from the top (by pushing on the little metal rod that the fan sorrounds). Got loose without too much force, just gotta find the leverage!
Hold the plastic vanes by both hands. Ask someone to hammer the central metal protruding in the middle. Use wood in doing so as not to deform the middle metal. And do not use WD-40 for lubrication as it overheats in the long run and does not last long. Use oil or grease for the bushing.
Hi John, my 2013 Santa fe heating system smells like burnt plastic or maybe fuel fumes, hard to tell. I had it checked over by the dealership but they said it was maybe due to a cabin filter. BTW it did smell very gross(burnt plastic) and was replaced. However, the smell is still present. Any suggestions on what I can do? or what I should look out for?
Sergio Batista to better diagnose i would ask you do the following. Put the air circulation on “recycle” this will only draw air from the cabin. Run like this for a day and see if the smell is still present.
These blower motor are really not serviceable. I had the exact squeaking problem. I oiled that thing to death and it would work for a bit, but it always came back. Best advice is to get a new part. Don't have to go OEM, try aftermarket
That’s good to know, because I already pulled mine apart because of a squeak on low fan speed and after a week it came back. I just ordered a replacement part
my blower stopped working this morning with no warning on my 2005 it worked for 15 mins or so holding dial over with force while driving but that stopped working as well hear a little ticking from that area switching speed dials over but didn't engage or start.Couldn't get back screw out with stubby have to grab the Phillips bit for the rachet and noticed screws were rusty on them could it have got water in there and froze????
got it working on 2 but shuts off, been playing with low high knob and heard fan come on but no other settings work have to wiggle know in between 1 and 2 to get it blowing again so not thinking its blower motor its the dial?
I have a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. My heater doesn't blow hot air. I checked the motor blower it works fin. I changed the antifreeze and I checked the fuse they are working fin. I have no idea what causes not getting hot air.
Great videos, im looking at buying a 2012 limited, would you recommend it as a reliable run about? it has 90k km, v6 reasonable on fuel? im in alberta.
Eoin Keenan mine has 100K Km and overal I am happy with it. Common fail points are suspension bushings. Also the 3.5L is know for a leaky oil pressure sending unit. Had to replace mine twice now. I was lucky that when I bought mine it came with a 7 year full coverage warranty. The 3.5 is a gas hog, espeacially when in city. Highway will get you on average 8.5 L/100 km and mixed will be 12 L/100 km. These are real world numbers as calculated by me. Thanks for watching
