I QUIT! Why I stopped teaching in Spain.
This week’s video is a little different! I taught English in Spain for 5 years, but there were some things that made me quit teaching in Spain and move to Australia. If you’re curious to learn about why I quit teaching in Spain, then check out this video. If you are an American or a Canadian who wants to teach in Spain, I highly recommend watching this video.

Being a Spaniard myself, I can confirm the way we treat students from other nationalities, races, or with special handicaps

Oh my goodness. I cannot believe that I just barely found your channel! You're amazing, I'm in my 5th year and I feel the exact same way! Both sides of the pros and cons. I feel like I'm at s turning point as well. Can't wait to watch more of your content. Thanks for the insight!

I did notice on job boards that the Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Greek summer camps teaching packages are not very nice. Most of them require you to pay for your own flight or transport there, some say they could help you with accomodation, others state you have to find your own... Some provide food with no allowance others will provide a weekly allowance without food... It's a mess🥴

Summer camps are unique. They typically offer room and board and low pay. Some offer just room and board which isn't a good option, in my opinion. These jobs are best for people who are already in Europe because, like you mentioned, no flight is offered or other transport.

So even if you go to university and obtain a degree in teaching languages abroad and you want to work in public/private schools working full time it is almost impossible to actually get these types of jobs?
@ESLTeacher365
@ESLTeacher365 2 года назад
If you get a teaching certificate for K-12 it’s possible, but difficult because there aren’t many international schools in Spain and competition is high. It’s easier and cheaper for Spanish schools to hire people with EU working rights so they prefer to do this instead of sponsoring visas. For public schools it’s really hard because you need to pass national exams, but for private schools you’d have more of a chance since they don’t require these tests (oposiciones).

@@ESLTeacher365 I am interested in Colombia I just got my TEFL a few weeks ago from ITA Academy, I will be relocating in July I have no teaching experience or degree and I've been looking at language schools any suggestions or advice I would really appreciate it and I enjoy your channel and your content it really gave me the confidence I needed to do it but it's still it is a bit nerve racking without a degree or experience either way I already bought my ticket. lol Thanks again :)

@@Wolflikemeee How exciting! Try to do some tutoring or volunteer teaching before you go if you can to get some experience and have your CV ready to go to look for jobs when in Colombia. Be ready to learn from your co-workers and I'm sure you'll do great!

@@ESLTeacher365 Well, I was teaching in Madrid, specifically in las Rozas at a charter school that is too afraid to discipline the kids because they don’t want the push back from the parents. A kid drew a…a very problematic symbol infamously associated with WWII on a work sheet during an activity in my class-also weird that I was leading the class as a teaching assistant- and his punishment was to write a report about his actions and how they can impact others ✌🏾🙄

dont come to Spain if you want to work as a teacher, this line of business has gone down the tube and there is no way anyone will survive to make a living in this country. You better have other skills to just get by beside teaching if you want to live a long term in Spain.

Behaviour management has to happen at home at the hands of parents. No student with behaviour problems should be allowed in school, to help not ruin it for those who are well behaved.
@ESLTeacher365
@ESLTeacher365 5 месяцев назад
I disagree. All students deserve the right to be in school. However, proper support such as counseling and therapists should be provided.

@@ESLTeacher365 A school can't teach the languages, sciences and the arts if it has to take care of behaviour management. Look what's happening to schools in America.
