I can tell he is an amazing coach already after like 5 mins of gameplay. He asks you your limitations so YOU can decide them. This is what you want to do when you tutoring someone in anything. It lets you cut out the BS of trying to figure out why someone isn't performant by just asking their viewpoint. It also lets them solidify what THEY want to work on.

- Better to be accurate than to be fast - Find value = find chance to do (meaningful) damage, CC. - No one always plays perfect, but if you make good offensive plays you have higher % of winning. When you always heal, your chance of winning is 50/50 and dependent on your teammates - Sometimes you worry too much about healing teammates that aint really about to die and forgot to use your CDs - In high lobbies, every second matters - If you can't find value in a specific position, rotate to a different angle or move up to do more damage. So no damage or ur about to die = switch up the angle - The fundamental is applying pressure. You should heal people enough so they don't die but always do damage & pressure - When using a risky off-angle, shoot a few shots and then run away. If they all look at you and panic bc of the nade, nobody is shooting at your team and your team can take space to push them. Notice: when they all start looking and chasing you, you switch off and do not die. - When you off-angle, even if you miss your sleep you can still hit nade. If you miss both then you still make them look at you, then you switch angle do not die and your team can attack them while they distrated - Be careful when you get stuck in open space - In reality theres no need to wait for the perfect moment to use the sleep, usually you get more values when you just use your cool down on sleep offensively and hope for the best

It takes a lot of humility to get in a call with a coach in front of hundreds of thousands of people, for them to point out your shortcomings. That "what if" moment in the replay at the end has gotten me mind blown. Such a nice way to find opportunities from replays. Also I would like to add, I was expecting to be a high silver low gold player and ranked plat 4 this season. I thought I would derank but no I am now plat 1. My team yell at me all the time because my healing is always half the other healer and they say what are you doing at the front move back(or sit on the payload) but I noticed that 1 : the ennemy when they see me they commit ressources because getting a support is big, 2 : when the nade they did not expect hit they back up of they have no kiriko and 3 : the sombra is looking for me where I am not 😂. Then my team moves on. My main issue atm is greed and not rotating enaugh

The last game was so hard to watch, especially as a support main. This is one of the cases where the game is unwinable, no matter how good you play. Still Karq and Awkward gave very solid insights and how you can (micro)adjust yourself to get the most out of any round. But having an Echo with 0-0-5 in the first round and having an entire DIFF-team... Crazy. But I think this has to do with matchmaking because they played... I've heard other people talk about the ebb and flow of the fight as a concept before, and had a little lightbulb moment while watching. The 2 things he's asking when in positions, "can I do impact dmg?" and "am I in danger?", provide an effortless thought loop to follow fight tempo without necessarily thinking of it as something as confusing and generic as fight tempo. Awkward has some uhhh.... interesting ragebait tweets but I'm convinced that he knows what he's talking about

21:26 i believe the word you're looking for is the "Dunning Kruger" effect. The tendency for unskilled individuals to overestimate their abilities, while experts may underestimate their own competence.

Damage damage damage!! Awkward not only helped me climb in the ranks, but more importantly, I have more fun playing the way I do now.

I watched some of Awkward's video and thought his play style wasn't really my type, but i just realized he have hit such a top level so many times and may be i should think again to adapt more on his style

I usually really dislike live coaching as you play, and instead prefer respawn tips/after Map vods. At least in my experience coaching anywhere from gm to brand new players, they don't respond to the outside pressure well, and sometimes make plays they wouldn't normally do just to "impress" me. I really prefer a student selected vod, where I answer questions they have because that usually means that they'll remember that advice if they ask themselves the same kind of question, followed up by another game where they try to input the coaching. I'm just some random gm tho.

Awkward hits rank one without knowing any numbers... The numbers are so fun to know, but ultimately useless for being good at the game 😅

22:30 makes sense, if you are 50/50 going into a 50/50 battlefield that's constantly switching from offensive to defensive playstyles, you have a lower chance of playing the right playstyle against the enemy's playstyle, compared to a 100% offensive/aggressive player going into a 50/50 battlefield.
