Take a walk in the woods with me as I say “hello” after a hiatus from the RU-vid world. Thank you for all the requests I’ve received to create more videos! I’m fired up about delivering some fungal footage for you once again. Here in this video I’ll be sharing what inspired me to start learning about fungi and mushrooms, I’ll show you around ‘my backyard’ and let you know what to expect in the future from Yellow Elanor…all while showing off some dazzling mushrooms, of course.

Fungi are fantastic, that's for sure! I've learned most of my mushrooms on my own, too -- and sure appreciate the folks that have made guidebooks and those all-essential identification keys. There's such tremendous diversity in the Pacific Northwest. It's hard not to be a fungus fanatic around here, lol. Happy mushroom hunting!

Wow I have good luck. Find your channel yesterday, watch all your older videos, get second from the top and realize I'm just coming into this channel 2 weeks after a 3-4 year hiatus. Very stoked to see where this channel goes. Mushroom hunting is a recent passion of mine and I find every one of these videos interesting, even if have the mushies aren't in the east coast like I am.

If I could suggest one thing, I'd love to see some content explaining what exactly fungi is, how it reproduces and evolved, what health benefits it provides, etc (along the lines of Paul Stamets). Loving the long videos and editing. You guys are awesome.

I dunno if these folks are the right ones to answer that Q. But then I dont even know what highjacking the comments section refers to? Your suggestion answered would be very informative. I took a course with Stamets and believe he answers this adequately, at least in Mycelium Running if not on one of his vids here. I think we're all more enthusiasts here rather than mycologists. BTW, brush use is counseled by buyers in the biz to pickers getting into the biz, like i was long ago.

Trimming is good too, but a brush, a soft one like a paint brush is fine. Gets off the debris without bruising. Good Hunting, fun it is.

Yeah, I see Rachel using a brush all the time! But honestly, I can tell you more about the camera, editing and youtube side of things and will leave the fungi/mushroom stuff to her!

I've got a brush attached to the other end of my knife that I use out in the woods, and sometimes at home I use a soft toothbrush for those hard to reach areas for fine tuning. (Video of me using my brush just didn't make it into the video this time around). When I first got started in foraging I didn't carry a brush, but so thankful I eventually got one, makes a world of difference.

I figured you would be brushed up on that already. I wrote it for others (viewers) really. Sadly we haven't had the rain this fall, then I've been too busy to water our grounds where have a little morel patch and finally found the Giant King of gardens, stropharia, this year. Gardening is what I'm too busy doing. Night has fallen here, so this time is allowed. Thankful for your vids as I am for you imparting your knowledge here, so wittily and willingly. Keep on...

Hi! Greetings from guadalajara, mexico! In my nick of the woods we also have a lot of mushrooms, mostly in spring and winter... rainy season! Your channel is awesome, and I am honored to be able to watch your videos. OF course, up in the pacific northwest you have some different mushies, but strangely enough, I have found 2 or 3 morchellas grouwing next to the sidewalk under a little ficus tree... wow! We also have some delicious yellow boletes and a LOT of oysters growing in the woods around my city! hahaha even just regular champignons in the compost pile! one day I even found a hen of the woods growing right out there in the garden... Love this mushroom hunting! Happy foraging! Saludos amiga!

I've only been into mikology for about 3 weeks. (I note how Mikology gets underlined for spelling). @@bradleykmdean I did no harvesting. Not even the trumpets. I'm conflicted about removing/shortening the time visible of these beautiful things in well-visited areas, even though I want them for my plate. I know people harvest in my local national park in northeast Ohio, which prohibits it, because I hike every week and beautiful specimens of say sulfur shelf are there one week and gone the next. The difference between Killarney and that park couldn't be starker in terms of which is more barren of specimens.

Thanks for recommending that people cover up their disturbance. Some recent days hiking in Indian Heaven the trail has been littered with dug up/cut mushrooms. Commercial pickers probably, but still detracts from the experience for those who follow.
