Thanx, Freewayjim! Ur vids show me places I've never seen before, so if ever the time comes I would need 2 travel 2 these places, I kno what 2 expect, as far as sights r concerned. Thanx again!
Thanks for this; brought back just a few of the thousands of memories from my 2009 Grand Summer road trip. I remember this stretch of I-65 being in good condition, with traffic moving quite nicely, thanks to the 6 lanes.
I believe The State of Ky in the future will make all of i-65 a 6 lane interstate(look at all those trucks, esp FED-EX)it all ready 6 lanes from mile0 to the LB Nunn Pkwy, also it is a 2nd major pipeline from the north to the south i-75 being the 1st
A year or so ago, they were diamond grinding most of the 80's era concrete pretty much through all of Bullitt Co., and long stretches of the road were four lanes 24/7, with either the left or right lane utilizing a shoulder with rumble strips! Very annoying, but the work needed to be done. Passed through there right after Christmas, and it appears that they did a fine job!
Back when this part was still a toll road called "The Kentucky Turnpike", Exit 94 was the last exit northbound until you got to Exit 117 is Shepherdsville. Exit 106, 112, and 127 (Outer Loop) were partial exits that you could only access going southbound, Actually, those didn't become full interchanges until the reconstruction of I-65 in the 80's to six lanes and, obviously, exits 102, 116, 121, and 125 didn't exist yet. There was also a service plaza sitting almost right in the middle of the exit 117 interchange. I always found that odd they'd put the service plaza essentially AT an exit, especially one that already had services-a-plenty. The tolls went all the way up to exit 127 Fern Valley Rd. That interchange used to be a folded diamond to accommodate the toll plaza underneath the bridge. Many a northbound truck hit the guard rails due to the sharp turn on that cloverleaf exit.
You were right, fgjr96way...as of July, 2014, KyDOT has only 18 miles between Elizabethtown and (I believe) Upton to widen, and bids are underway for that stretch (MM 93-MM 76). The I-64 widening to 6 lanes between Louisville and Lexington is well underway, too. Now, KyDOT, about I-71...
Probably the closest thing to a rural 6 lane freeway through Upstate NY would be I-87 between Northway Exits 12 and 22. You get the rural farm-like charm as you go between 12 and 13S, and again between 16 and 17N. Forest between 20 and 21.
Texas I-10 between east of I-410 in San Antonio to Brookshire, TX is only four lanes. And it's between two of the state's largest populated cities, SA and Houston (4th largest city in the US)
@Freewayjim hmm i look into those, but anyways, maybe next month i will be riding with my friend who drives Semi's and ill definatly do a timelapse from the truck :D should be a neat perspective
@Freewayjim Jim, the reason(s) you have so many views is the amount of subscribers you have(more than 2,000 subs) and the attention it brings.. I have 86 at the moment, also having about 200-400 views in my latest videos. And most people watch yours over and over again, and that's how you get hits on your videos(also Brent and ScrewdUPClick get hits on their vids, too).
hey Jim, i know your a partner and all, but how do you get so many views? i only have like 132 at most on my most recent time lapse vid, (once i get my new car ill get my tripod rigged, but still)
