I am actually a Med student from Germany and in like the first week we got taught that you should ALWAYS talk with the patients about what you're going to do and especially make sure that what you do is what your patient wants. So I don't get how a person just pokes in a needle without making sure it is okay to do so! That must've been really traumatizing for you! And I don't even wanna start about the communicating, that's literally a catastrophe....

As a recent retired nurse I am thrilled she's fighting back & speaking out. Medical care in the last 15 years has gone down the drain. Everything is about money & shortcuts. Rushing people out of the hospitals after surgery, heart attacks, chemo you name it. Most today have lost empathy, patience & desire to really help. Yes treatment has come a long way but caring & communication has stopped. The excuses pile up. For all in healthcare get it together & really go the extra mile to help the patience. Take the time to hear what your patient is saying & feeling.

Luckily for me, I had a good experience in a German hospital. I have nothing bad to say about anyone I saw and met there, only positive things. All doctors, technicians and nurses. I expected much, much worse and luckily for me I was wrong to expect it. Very competent, very nice and thoughtful and never did something without first explainingg what they will do and ask if I have questions. I could chose if I had my surgery with general anesthesia or only partial, they also explained why they do not recommend general anesthesia and they called me on the 31st of December at 16 o'clock with the results of my biopsy because they wanted me to start the new year with good news (my appointment to get the results was one week later). There is nothing negative I can say about the people there, on the contrary. I will always be thankful. I am aware that not all German hospitals are the same, I am just lucky there are some great hospitals out there.

@@jodeming5088 I am also thrilled that she is fighting back! It is so important. Change can only be created if People fight for themselves and others. That is kind of sad that first bad things have to happen before change can be created, but that makes it even more important to stand up for yourself. A huge issue is also the fact that there are just not enough nurses because the work conditions are really bad for the kind of work they do everyday. That cuts off the time that a nurse can take for one patient because they have to care for more patients so that their capacity is just more than exhausted. And that causes that there is just not enough time for proper communication. I already had bad experiences with doctors and my parents too. So I really want to and will put in the effort in the future to treat patients in a way that I wanna be treated. Thank you for your work as a nurse. Nurses are just so important and I think they hear a "thank you" way to rarely.

@@RestlessNights2552 It's not paid for by taxes, we have to have medical insurance. You can get benefits to help pay for it, but you still have to pay your own insurance. Having said that, general medical care is covered by that. Apart from a maximum yearly contribution set by law, medical care is covered. What you do have to pay extra for is things like physical therapy and birth control. But they don't break the bank. The pil is about 30 euro per year, an IUD 70 euro for ten years, if it lasts that long.

I'm so sorry.... this is a tragic situation...been an R.N. 50 years the communication between sub specialties is awful & it's a world wide, system problem that has gotten worse since covid. I can only recommend that you have one central source for all communication....your Oncologists! He or she should be directing all your care. Run everything by him or her & become best friends with the nursing staff in the office. I also find sessions with the nurse practictioners for routine follow up appts instead of the doctor fosters more of a team approach. You need people working with you to fight the good fight when you can't. Excellent idea that you document your visits & take a support person to act as your advocate when you don't have the physical & mental ability to fight on your own. You are absolutely justified for feeling angry at a system that is failing you.

Sweetheart, I've been following you for a long while and until 3 days ago, I never had a family or friend diagnosed with cancer. Then our lives just stopped...my husband of 18 years had a colonoscopy last week(he's 48 and has never been sick, had a surgery, illness other then a cold, or any complaints in his life. He's a healthy guy for 48),they found a tumor and after an agonizing weekend, we were called into the surgeon office and told it's colon cancer, they scheduled him for a boatload of other tests next wk then surgery on Dec 2 to remove half of his large bowel. We have 2 sons, ages 12 and 15. We are still not even able to utter the phrase "you/I have cancer"... 2 days and it'd just as raw. We don't know what's ahead yet but from watching you, I've gained alot of insight from the patients side and I also learned I'll need to be his biggest advocate and cheerleader... I'll take charge of the medical care end and make sure it's tops. I'm a nurse but have been a homemaker/mom for 8 years. He's our world and he's the only one working. I'm absolutely terrified but still thinking positive. Crazy thing about this is the only reason he had the colonoscopy was because I had a dream he was sick with cancer and kept seeing his belly. It freaked me out. He never felt so much as a twinge of pain...I kid you not the week after he saw the Dr and got the test scheduled, he started having a ton of blood in his stool and lots of pressure/pain across upper belly. I'm praying we caught it in time and surgery is the end of it. But if not we fight on and I'll be turning to your journey for hope and encouragement. So sorry about the mess ups lately. Hope it gets sorted out. Have a good weekend!!

Unfortunately, this sort of thing- and worse- happens all the time here in the UK. I put a major mistake in after my first cancer surgery ( when the surgeon who was supposed to lead my surgery - who I had wanted and extra 3 months for because her schedule was so packed- forgot to turn up and a registrar carried out my 9 hr surgery. ) There were 7 other major, problems I had, including overdosage of a drug that would have killed me had I not noticed the side effects, with my nursing background. it took a year to get through the complaints process and at the end- crickets. No apology- they hadn’t even read my complaint correctly and were commenting on things unrelated to my compliant. You can see why people give up, and why hospitals do this to get out of serious complaints. I hope you have a different experience.

Well done for having the inner strength to persue this situation, for yourself and others. 👏💪 x From someone who has to attend hospital regularly I feel your anxiety, I also have issues with my veins.. After a serious operation, I had to spend the night in ICU, that evening a nurse came to draw blood, with no care she tried to do this, in sudden unexpected pain I shouted out, other medical staff came running in & I had to explain my situation.. Not liking what had happened, the nurse said in a passive aggressive way, "I won't try again, but I'll be back first thing in the morning to draw blood from your artery instead"!!.. True to her word she did & seemed to enjoy the extra added pain of this procedure, certainly felt like I was being punished!! 💉 🤬

I had an X-ray misread a few years ago and spent 3 weeks in a moonboot for a fracture that didn’t exist, but I can’t even imagine when it comes to cancer and your health having this miscommunication happen. Good for you for filing a complaint and taking action - wishing you all the best!

Romee, it breaks my heart that you have gone through this nightmare, dealing with cancer is a huge battle, but the stress and strain of all this additional crap is unforgiveable!! God bless. Prayers for healing.💙💙

This makes me so upset for you. Like it makes me want to cry. You are already going through one of the most scariest and stressful situations someone can go through and now, on top of that, you are losing confidence in the people who are supposed to be treating you and healing you. Which just makes your situation ten times more stressful during a time when you shouldn't be stressed out at all and be concentrating on healing and getting better. I'm so sorry you have to go through all of that when you are already dealing with so much. You are so strong for standing up for yourself and you are 100% in the right for making a formal complaint. I am truly hoping and waiting to jump up and down in joy for the day you post a cancer-free video and all of this is behind you and you can be a world traveling vlogger again!

Romee, this is absolutely disgusting. I am so glad you filed a complaint. Having cancer and waiting for results is already stressful, but the lack of concern and the lack of listening to the patient is absolutely abhorrent.

Oh Romee. My heart goes out to you. The lack of patient concern is horrible. On both the iv trauma and the lack of communication. I’m glad your calling this to there attention.

I also had a terrible hospital experience, mine with a cruel and unkind anaesthetist...I had cancer in the bowel and was going in to have a half of the bowel removed... I have no support network and not strong enough to make a complaint so I changed hospitals

I'm a pharmacy student from Brazil, and in my university we have a class to discuss all things related to hospital pharmaceuticals... there's not a single class where we don't talk about how important communication between healthcare professionals is and how the inflated ego many healthcare professionals have is one of the biggest problems concerning sometimes fatal medical mistakes... I'm really glad you made through such a tough situation and are standing up for yourself and others! I know i'm just a stranger on the internet, but please know if there's any help i can give regarding this situation feel free to contact me Completely unrelated but I saw you underwent lung surgery recently, are you doing better? Lots of love :)

Now I don't really comment on videos but holy crap the negligence got me so riled up. I've been going through my own medical journey and I don't think I'd be able to survive mentally if I had the amount of issues that your hospitals have caused you. I can definitely empathise and understand how this triggered a depressive episode, hell, when I was waiting for biopsy appointments (it took 3 months before a definitive biopsy was taken) I actually dyed my hair green to try and take back some semblance of control. I'm just in awe of how much of a fiasco the hospitals created in your situation. Wishing you the best from New Zealand ❤

What a nightmare, Romee! Cancer is a nightmare enough and you don't need to have others make it worse. Just the whole IV thing from Part 1 made me furious. As someone who also has difficult veins it's more than annoying when a "professional" won't listen because they think they know all about veins and you're just a "civilian." I may not have medical training but I've lived with my veins for 76 years and I know what they're like. Anesthesiologist, in my experience, are The Worst - too much ego. The record for me was twice in my left elbow, twice in my left hand, twice in my left instep and twice in my right before getting someone else to get it started and then, just to frost the cake, I needed another in my right arm because I was getting a nerve block. He refused to do any numbing, claiming it was too much wear and tear on the vein. When I was diagnosed with cancer and was going to be getting a monthly treatment requiring 2 consecutive days with an IV, I opted to have a port put in. It's a little thing, totally under my skin, and has been functioning now for 7 years. When I'm getting infusions, it gets flushed and loaded with heparin so we don't get clots and when I get a break from chemo, I go in monthly to have it flushed and reloaded with heparin. I consider it a personal "oil change" like I'd have done on my car. Now, whenever I need any kind of surgery or blood test, they tap the port and life is much easier. Love my little vortex port! Good luck with the next and sending best wishes for good news!

😲😲😲😲 WOW THAT IS NOT OK!!!!! Im sooo glad u video everything, im so glad u write everything down and document everything and im definitely glad that u actually made a formal complaint because that is definitely not professional at all and if u hadnt of documented everything then u wouldnt of even known anything urself and what u are up to with ur treatment. Im so sick of hospitals doing this to people and everyone points fingers and communicates ot takes responsibility for there actually and thats ridiculous. They better hope they havnt missed anything else and ur in the clear. Im so so sorry this has happen to u

Bless your heart! I can’t imagine. I’m a breast cancer survivor and I can’t imagine my journey being like yours. I’ve lost both parents to cancer, and they did make a mistake with one of my moms surgeries which ultimately ended up causing her death 6 months later. Could the cancer have killed her? Sure. But the surgery sped up the process. Praying for you from Oklahoma!

I think you are handling this well. Patients who see the whole picture and hopefully are listened to are the best at encouraging systemic change and increasing safety for all involved, staff included. Nobody wants to cause problems for a patient. But all of the puzzle pieces come together best for the patient. Good job! Thank you for making a difference!

Kudos for being your own advocate! I almost died from a malpractice incident. The doctor was too busy to put all of my symptoms together for a diagnosis of cervical cancer. I just knew something wasn't right and went to a different doctor who had me admitted that day for surgery. The tumor couldn't be removed because it would break apart. So I had radiation to shrink it first. Then a complete hysterectomy. It's been 40 years since then. Thank God for the doctor that cared enough to listen and for my intuition to get another opinion. You are an intelligent and capable woman and will beat this rotten disease!

Romee, I am absolutely mortified to hear what you have been through getting the PET scan and the follow up with your Doctor. I would like to say there is not an acceptable excuse but this seems to be common ground for the entire healthcare system right now and has been for a very long time. I will share my story with you once I hear you are cancer free. Romee, it has been my experience in life (I'll be 60 in 2 weeks) that we are given situations, and these can be incredibly difficult and taxing physically, to grow us into a position that uses these situations to advance knowledge. I believe you will beat the cancer and remain in the medical field in a much needed process improvement and patient advocate Director role. You will be very successful and effective in this role. Much love to you.

So so sorry, Romee. What happened to you is awful because it was so unnecessary to drag out the agony of getting testing done and then all the terrible pain. Poor girl. I send you so much support for standing up for yourself and future patients. Then, to come in without updating themselves on your history. Ugh. Oh my gosh, it’s worse that that. Your doctor never even knew? I have no more words to say, except to say that I’m so glad you have a witness, and I’m sending you love and hugs. Yes, insane. ❤️🧡💛

I love the way you speak, patois... I read that in my head and can imagine how it sounds and i love it! Also, i agree with you. I would have been fuming! I would have had to say something. But, maybe that would've made things worse i don't know, but I at least would have had to explain to the nurse that poked her in the hand without letting Romee speak, explain to her what she did was totally wrong, and why. And she should've been fired, in my honest opinion! Greetings and love from England
