Rich, if that trailer is aluminum which it looks to be you can clean it with a marine product called "Toon Brite" which should be available in Canada, it is used for cleaning Pontoon boats. It is a mild acid which cleans up the metal really nicely!
Blast the trailer with crushed Walnut shells. The shells don't remove any material but leave a beautiful smooth semi-gloss finish on aluminum. They are also biodegradable 😉😊
Rich, That KW100 looks "BADASS"& sounds good too! What a job To Rebuilding that SWEEEEEET Ride...One of the best rebuilt jobs you ever done, my Canadian Friend. Take care of you & yours my friend.......
We started using 2 cycle oil as a lubricant in our old diesels fuel had one that started hard the entire time we have owned it. After putting the 2 cycle oil in the fuel thing fires up so easy, way better than ever. Might give it a try sometime.
Rich, I have been absolutlely FILTHY over the last week. Every evening after work, my 13yo son and I have been out inthe garage converting our 68 C10 from 4 wheel drum to 4 wheel disc brakes. The wife is not impressed with the amount of grime that has made it into the house. Two things keep running through my head: "Sittin' on yer ass won't finish your project" (thanks Puddin'), and "If you're not filthy, you're not rich." He's loving working on the truck, btw. As to the trailer, it need to look as good as the tractor.
On the trailer since it is a spread axle install an air dump valve on the forward axle that can be controlled from the cab. If you are loaded and cutting some tights corners, you will scrub the tires on the forward axle. Letting the air out of the bags on the forward axle when making tight turns will save you a bunch of money on tires. You would be amazed how fast you can destroy a set of tires dragging them sideways when loaded. I have just under 2 million miles driving all kinds of Class 8 trucks. Have fun with your new truck.
Was it an air problem with the rear axle brakes? I've run into stuck brakes on trailers that haven't been moved in a while. Those spring parking brakes keep the brakes applied, when it rains water drips into the drums and rusts the shoes to the drums, especially the shoe on the bottom..When you release the brakes, the S cam moves to let the shoes come away from the drum, but the shoes don't move. If it's loaded just moving it back and forth may break them loose. Empty not so much. I've seen tires ruined from dragging, when just a few whacks of a hammer would pop them loose. Set the tractor brakes, release the trailer brakes. Take a hammer to the brake shoes to get them to break loose. They break loose with a pop as the return springs pull the shoe tight against the S cam.
Don’t let one truck discourage your entire movement. If need be you can always change it. Think about all the things that have gone right thus far and you’ll remember how blessed you are! Keep your head up. Better days are ahead, you’re only getting stronger ! Keep trukin maanne
The Steering issue you described on the first test drive, sounds like steering axle King Pin binding more notably with the with the weight of the truck on the ground. If It had a symptom of snagging and snapping free. Both bearing and pin failure (but was not detectable with the wheels jacked up off the ground). Notable: Incorrect steering arms for the wheel base can cause weird steering sensation. And must be considered if the wheel base has historically been changed. Poor tire wear, weird road feel and lurching or tire scrubbing in turns are symptomatic of front axle Ackerman angle issues. I worked in a IHC Truck Shop for many years . Learned American Truck Manufacturers typically list 3 different available steering arms to cover 3 different wheel base specs. Sometimes requires a different tie Rod,different ends, plus the steer arms if wheel base has been changed long to short or short to long.
That trailer needs acid washed and a full polish job. Very time consuming but will look like a mirror when its done. Thats after you'll probably end up rebuilding the axles and brakes, cans, s cams bushings etc. It could end up looking more and more like a show truck.
Hi from uk rich 👋👍 In true fashion yeyy I fixed everything but broke something at wide open listening to the music awesome👌 pleased shes sorted and cruising again and making music is what these trucks are for but some look beautiful along the way and nice trailer find too man even if back wheels are flatspotted 😂😂 they got you home 👍 good look and hope test went well👌thanks for your time and be safe see you soon 👍👋
I'm glad you got the issue resolved, it's a great looking truck, I would be glad to own it ! Go hay carting with the trailer, put racks front and rear and make some money, on return trips keep your eyes peeled for saleable goodies you can bring back to civilization and on sell!
Phosphoric acid dilute wash and a pressure washer should clean up the aluminum, definitely going to have to go through and fix all of the load hold downs and the stake holders. I'd personally take apart all 4 hubs and inspect the bearings. Nobody changes the oil in trailer hubs, unless it's already leaking all over the inside of the brakes or the outside wheel. I've seen many a trailer hub spindle need to be replaced because of loose bearings. Honestly, if there's no major frame cracks and you replace the rubber parts in the suspension, replace the brake components, it's a pretty good deal.
@@timmoyer7068 Phosphoric acid is in alumabrite, It's the same stuff they use to remove excessive aluminum oxide on aluminum wheels. It's also used to treat aluminum before/after it's been welded to help prevent passivity. So no, it doesn't cause Aluminum oxide to form, you're wrong, oxygen and water cause aluminum oxide to form.
Nice one good fellow, I also liked the 10 minute restoration of the beauty. Just a nice solid build, get that AC fixed and working real cold, the build's not yet finished without that! 👍
Wish you total success in getting your AZ license. At least you're getting your's in the middle of the Summer. I went for mine in the middle of dead of winter and in the middle of a snow storm. Still passed though it an easy test not that bad at all. You got this bud.
Start with an acid wash product on the trailer aluminum only. Don’t get any on the truck. And once you get new shiny wheels on the trailer don’t get acid on them either. You could always sand and polish the trailer cause it aluminum but that’s a lot of work.
They are injection nozzles not injectors which reguire mechanical activation. There are differences in nozzles spray hole size and angle which mean different flow rates
I surrendered my AZ license this year because I turned 65 and I really don't want to long haul anymore and pay $200 a year for a medical anymore. But watching you I'm now second guessing that decision, Crap.
You have hand built a beautiful awesome truck ! Ibarely heard a very recognizable noise come from the truck just beforehand you turned into Phil's driveway I'm sure it was some racoon scat on your clutch pedal.
That's a great trailer. It an all aluminum Reitenour. Those are 65thousand. Brand new. All you need is a good wash and some aluminum brightener. It will probably shine up fairly well. Fix the rub rail. Aluminum Wheels. New tires. Probably going to need some new air bags. Other than that. Those are really strong trailers
You definitely can’t read ppl’s social cues and personalities. This guy is in Canada the one you mentioned on your comment is in United States. The guy who fix cat motors probably have zero interest in doing a collab with anybody he does his thing all by himself and few videos where other ppl appear is probably family members. Some RU-vidrs are profiting from their content the cowboy in United States I don’t think he cares about likes and monetizing his channel.
Проделана просто гигантская работа. И результат просто ошеломительный. Машина получилась просто великолепная. На такой надо трак шоу ехать. Удачи вам и процветания.
That’s a 48’ trailer with a fixed 10’1” spread not a 53’ . A 53’ the rear axle would be farther forward. As for cleaning it up get it acid washed the truck washes do it and it’ll brighten the aluminum and remove the oxidation
Since the trailer looks to be mostly aluminum, you should be able to clean it pretty good with a hot water power washer and some aluminum brightener. Good luck with the license.
Ooo nice acid wash on that trailer would bring it up lookin sweet… really do love the look of the old Kenny even though I don’t like driving them… but do appreciate a good build 👍👌
Very good video, educate and add knowledge which is very useful for all of us.. Good luck bro, long life, always healthy and lots of sustenance Greetings to all, bro from Bandung, West Java, Indonesia.
Whatever you do, replace the plastic sheets between the frame and anything steel that mounts to the frame. Been working an hour away from you in the rust belt for a long time. If those plastics are missing, you're gonna have a real bad time
I hope you're not relying on the hydraulic jack to hold up the cab. You could see it slowly dropping with you working under it during the time lapse at the start...
Iv got a set of those special sockets Basically a 12 point crows foot I use em all the time Cat sell the sockets in a cat branded box Open the box and there's a snapon box inside the cat box Cat sell alot of snap on tools for 1/2 price of the local guys But I rekon snap on jacks up the prices way higher for us Aussies so cat prob just sells the tools at US prices
Yeah this new Diesel hates the old Diesels. If I don’t have a certain mix of engine oil or an amount of lubricant my truck won’t start right. My IP was replaced abt 40-50k ago, but my injectors are stock to the truck on my IDI @223k.
I would get a strong aluminum acid cleaner that will strip all that dirt and stains off the aluminum quick and leave it a matte aluminum work and considering the kw being so nice I'd cut and buff the whole trailer and put new d.o.t reflective tape on it
As a country I could never live in Canada because of some of your freedom related laws and policies, but I absolutely love Canadians in general. All the ones I met are so damn nice and genuine. Thanks for the great content!
that is a aluminum 53 foot scat-board do not sand blast it. you aced bath them. and from what i see it is worth fixing... just watch were you go as some places restrict to no 53 foot. like if you ever get down in the states Californian is a no go state for 53 foot.
No leaks...in a cat? Lol...how does the saying go. If there's no oil under em there's no oil in em! Lol. Omg I cringed watching you drag that trl onto the rd with that axle locked up lol. Cool trk. A solar trickle charger as another gent said definitely would help as well as battery cutoff switch. Good luck on the road test. 23 yrs otr driver here.
