You got one hell of a steal. Congrats. Reminds me of when I got my 2012 Prius with only 70k miles for $8k back in 2018. Here it is 2024 and I can sell that same car with 95k miles for over $10k. The whole reason I buy used is because I expect a car to lose a lot of value very quickly. But instead it went up! What a crazy world. Never would happen if you buy a new car though.

Until covid! Bought my model 3 in June 2020 and sometime in 21 or 22? My car was worth more than a new one! Wait times for teslas were months away so people were willing to buy used ones for more than the price of a new one.

Hey Randy! Not sure if you knew this but teslas have a service mode. To use it , go to the software menu, then press and hold on the model designation (Model S P85). When a prompt box comes up, type in service. Then you should be good to use it! To exit it there should be a red box somewhere (not sure where exactly so I’m mentioning it lol.)

With life time charging I would keep it indefinitely! $20,000 for a battery would make sense when you could drive for free ! $5,000 sounds better! I take it as a personal challenge to get as many miles as possible out of a car .I'm driving a old Honda that I paid $900. 5 years ago that had 134,000 miles and now has 307,000 . I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy a Tesla on the secondary market! A new battery is $20k, a new motor is $5!! Add in the money you bought it for and it turns out that this car is absolutely not worth it!! I wouldn't buy a car battery from someone other than Tesla, as they burn very quickly and it's almost impossible to extinguish a Tesla on the road!! Great video! I also have a silver P85 from 2013 and I have owned it since new, and it has more miles than yours!!! LOL 277,000 and still drives great. The HVAC and the stereo need work (neither are totally broken). Drivetrain is solid. Your car may have been top-of-the-line when it was made, I can't remember - there was a "P85+" introduced with better suspension, but not sure if it was available in March 2013 when yours was built. Overall $7800 is an incredible deal - except for me, since I only have one to sell!!! 🤣 RE: free supercharging... perhaps there is some really bad news in your future. If the car was traded into Tesla last year (and they sent it to auction, that is totally not a surprise), it's possible the prior owner was buying a new Tesla and transferring the free supercharging OFF OF your car and ON TO the new car. That was a promotion they were running last year and literally stopped it 12 days ago. It was to get customers to take delivery by December 31st. We just did it... we bought a Model Y which now has free supercharging for life!!! (but it won't transfer to any subsequent car or owner) if you end up having to pay for supercharging, well, at least it's cheaper than gasoline.

You need to have the Tesla MCU (media control unit=screen) updated. It showed 2G, no longer compatible with today's communication. Better to have Tesla replace and have latest software/firmware confidence! If it has been gently driven, drive unit should be okay. Expect to need replacement at some time. You need to have Tesla confirm that it is original drive unit. The battery replacement is not expensive if you request a remanufactured unit. Although new replacement are much much better, and worth it. Probably went to auction because the diagnosis and repair time cost of climate control, MCU upgrade (required), possible drive unit, was not economical for resale due to high mileage. Just like any manufacturer used car, no warranty possible/available. LIFETIME Supercharging is worth the price for the car! Tesla superchargers are usually located where you can walk/eat/toilet/window shop. FYI, if the retractable sunroof leaks/problems, repair/replacing it is Tesla available. Although no longer available on the new cars. Keep the exterior track slots clean. Cover/garage definitely helps. You may expect to enjoy, keep this car for a long time. The performance is tough to beat.

My 85D currently has 259,000 miles on the clock and is giving me no cause for concern. I went to Italy (from the UK) for 6 weeks October/November last year. Covered 5,500 trouble free miles. Water ingress into the battery pack or motors are the most likely cause of issues on an old Model S. If you have a good EV service centre near by, it would be worth checking the battery pack seals and for corrosion. And drive shaft seals and coolant seals on the motor. If this is checked and any problems dealt with before they cause failure, your Model S should do another 250,000+ miles.

EVs are actually easier than conventional cars in a number of ways. There's much less regular maintenance. No oil changes or other such service that needs to be done, and for day to day driving you don't have to stop somewhere to refuel, instead you just charge at home, so it eliminates the need to stop at gas stations.

You might want to look into something, this car could have a lifetime warranty, on the early cars, Tesla made a big mistake by offering a lifetime warranty. I watched a story about a guy in Germany with a Tesla Model S with 1,200,000 miles, he’s had motor and battery replacements by Tesla all for free because of the lifetime warranty. Randy my friend, Big time home run on the Tesla! Reviewing the comments on this video, a question I’ve wanted to ask you for a long while comes to mind: Why do so many KNOW-IT-ALLS feel like it’s their duty to leave nearly worthless comments on your videos? I have several theories, among them are: Their envy (and down-right jealousy) of your wonderful success. Their very obvious lack of self esteem. I’d be interested in your thoughts on this should you care to share them. I’ll just add one more thing before I put everyone asleep: I’m always thrilled to see someone’s success. The only thing I enjoy more is my own success! Peace my friend, DrRick

I currently own a 2014 P85D w/ Ludicrous+ upgrade. The free supercharging and premium connectivity only applies to cars that have been private sold since new. If any of those cars pass through Tesla's hands as a trade-in and resold, Tesla will remove the free supercharging and the new owner will have to pay for it just like any other newer Tesla. So NEVER sell a late model "free supercharging" car back to Tesla. Also, to quiet some of the unknowledgable commenters... they didn't offer a dual-motor Model S until late 2014 when the P85D was released. All prior performance P85 cars were rear-wheel drive only with about 416HP. Also Ludicrous mode wasn't available on the early P85D/P90D cars. They only came with Insane mode. You had to take your car to a service center to have Ludicrous installed which was a physical upgrad of a "smart fuse" to the drive battery pack, software upgrade, and the put an underline under the decals on the back trunk and screen graphics to denote it was a Ludicrous car.
@fixman88
@fixman88 4 месяца назад
It's possible that the old blower motor froze up so bad it blew a fuse. That means just changing the motor won't fix the problem. In late December 2023 I got a 2013 Chevy Volt with 63,000 miles on it and it has no battery problems whatsoever (it had been sitting for a while before I got it and it might still have an issue with the EVAP system but I'm going to wait until the weather warms up before I go into it).

I love that you got a good deal on this. Unfortunately it does seem to have been in some form of a collision, as the nuts and bolts that secure the “frunk” to the hinges have evidently been messed with, and the plastic tabs or clips that secure the cargo liner are showing evidence of being pried off. Those clips should not be pried off even with excessive normal wear and tear of the cargo area.
