Re: “harmonically rich.” Bogner’s signature thing is note separation. Even at high gain you can play a chord and hear it all. Killer amp.

I worked for a band for 7 years. This was the exact amp the guitarist used. It never gave us issues. It always sounded fantastic. 10/10 would recommend for hard rock stuff.

Hell yeah! I got a Bogner Helios a few months back and it is mindblowing. Best Plexi style amp I’ve ever heard.

I own 2 older model shivas, a 6l6 and an el34 version, both are amazing amps and can cover just about any genre of music you throw at them, especially with the right boost/od in front. Good thing you snagged one up, the shiva has been discontinued and is no longer going to be in production from Bogner. My mint condition 1997 el34 version may be worth some big bucks one day. I’ve thought about adding a 20th anniversary model but see no real reason to when I can use a boost/OD pedal and get mine into modern metal territory as is. I love the mid range voicing these amps have and the clarity with chords even with the gain cranked. The clean channel is absolutely beautiful, and they take pedals like a champ.

Bogner is such an underated amp brand imo, I very rarely hear about em yet every time I hear one it always blows my mind how unique and professional they sound

collecting real gear is just an addiction but a smart investment also. i have a collection of more than 60 tube amps and even more old school rack stuff.. i have the two bogner synergy modules and just love them. real gear especially unique tube based stuff like amps and pedals will also just increase its value over time while you will just lose money on all the digital stuff that just becomes outdated quick, what is a tonex worth in 2 years? cheers 🎸🎸

Great choice! I got a great deal on a Bogner XTC 3435 a few weeks ago, and I’m loving the different flavors of gain it offers.

the bogner shiva is not your usual 7 string all out metal amp thats what the ueberschall was designed for and both of these amps are just a bit too limited to the sound they are designed for..the ecstasy is the perfect solution if you want shiva like cleans and rock tones to ueberschall like distortions imo, just an underrated amp and the older versions are just soundheaven to me. the newer 3534 smaller head is also a great more affordable way to get the bogner trademark sound if you don`t want to spend 3-4k on just one amp..peace 🖤🖤

Also just picked up a 20th Shiva too... a KT88 w/reverb. As far as Bogner, I've owned the non-20th Shiva, Two Ecstasy (one 20th EL34, one non 20th), Brixton & Atma. The 20th Shiva takes the cake for me...the clean is one of the best in the game and the gain can cover a VERY wide spectrum. I also think you're right... very harmonically rich. It SLAYS in the mix live too

Hey Fluff, lovely amp. I know you're a big Mesa guy, if you want really solid cleans from a Mesa, I would highly recommend the Royal Atlantic 100 head. It does great cleans (And lovely spring reverb) also really solid rock/hardrock tones.

I used to have on of those. Man, the best cleans in any amp (imho) plus some very juicy leads.

This is the one-pony trick amp for session players IMHO. It takes pedals very nice in both channels and the effects loop is amazing. The funny part: the pre amp tubes are Chinese and Bogner says “in the manual” that these are what they prefer (the amp is calibrated with those tubes). Here you have a route of experimentation with several tubes types; Tungsol, Mullard, etc, will change the character and feeling of the amp, sometimes in a nice way. I had the KT88 With Reverb version and now I have the EL34 NR; to my ears, the EL34 is even more clear and articulated than the KT with RVB. If you use an strymon Flint or Big Sky in the effects loop you wont miss any onboard reverb, the newer version (green chasis) comes with the effects loop for pedals or rack effect units and is buffered by one half of the 12AX7 tubes. Another trick I found useful is putting a Walrus Audio Eras in front of the dirty channel. Because the peal has a blend knob, the distortion of the pedal mix very well with the distortion of the amp, producing great results. I can continue writing an entire book of goodness about this amp, it is truly a versatile machine for session players who needs to experiment with the sound. Enjoy

I really want a shiva combo. I have an alchemist. It’s really killer but a shiva is what I really want. The clean channel is amazing.

I used an Uber for almost 10 yrs in my band, Divinity. EB JP7 BFR into an 808 into the Uber. I got compliments almost every show on my tone. I loved that thing. Then I got an Ecstasy. loved that too! But I ditched them both for the Helix once the reliability became an issue. One day I will own another Bog. Nice review!

I have a Bugera vintage 55hd for just the boomer sound you mentioned. It has great clean channel and enough dirt for me. I can use a old Boss ds 1. I know you are not a fan.

Sounds great!! And seems consistent with other Bogner stuff. (I own 2x Wessex, 2x Burnley, and Red & Blue Ecstasy Minis.) Aggressive if you want, but not as strident as Marshalls, more low mid than hi mid. Whereas Orange tends to be strong in the low mids, but sounds more ragged and fuzzy, Bogners are a bit more muscular and perhaps a bit tighter. There is a richness and harmonic complexity to Bogner’s gain sounds to my ear, for sure. Seems to lean more hard rock than metal, if that’s a distinction you want to make. Sonic footprint is unique.

Another you could check out would be the Mesa Fillmore.

I own a Friedman JJ Jr.. And I love it.. I am going for those Grunge AIC, Nirvana typw of tones.. But I am thinking maybe I would like a Shiva even better.. Its seems to sound a bit rawer and more powerful..

What I like about not having reverb is that I modified my foot switch on this amp to use the reverb button for controlling the mode switch.

Fluff, I got bit by the Bogner bug a couple years back and now I have an XTC, Helios 100, and Uber Ultra. I should have tried these amps years ago but never did (well the Uber Ultra just came out but you know what I mean), I guess because I felt like they were too rare or "too boutique" to be practical, but they're not. They're awesome. You should seriously try the Uber Ultra. I have the EVH 100 Stealth and EVH 100 EL34 and... well... you should just try the Uber Ultra and thank me later.

I nearly bought a Bogner Shiva off of Jonny Rzeznik once and if had been an Ecstacy I probably would have. But while I enjoy the unique sound of Bogners, it's that low mids thing that I tend to dial back out of in recordings.

That dirt sound was incredibly grainy, more so than I’ve experienced with most Bogners. I’ve noticed a lot of amps describes as “harmonically rich” from in the room sound don’t translate well on a recording. Heard the same thing with the Carsten amp, also described as harmonically rich but just a grainy wash.

Did we just witness an ACTUAL clean tone on riffs beards and gear?!?! You could tell that clean tone was uncomfortable the whole time 😂😂

I have a Line 6 DT50 that’s a Bogner/Line6 collaboration effort amp and it’s amazing! It has such a killer tonality! I love that you’re using something that isn’t just the same things we hear daily! The cleans are weak but the drive channel more than makes up for it. I'd be curious to hear the clean on the edge of breakup instead of super clean.

The rack head you use for live shows, doesn't that make all of your other heads pretty much obsolete? Especially with Helix racks too, like you can get any sound you could ask for with that, so is there any need to buy another amp head? They're so limited these days, only having 1-3 channels, and they're too expensive and big and fragile for the one job they have. If you use pedals then the gain channels on the amp never get used anyway, so even then it's only a power supply. So with the complex and diverse capabilities of a fully loaded rack with every digital tool you can fit into one, why would you even bother with amp heads?
