1t's the British definition of supercar. No extravaganza. Exactly enough Engineering to chop your 1/2 mil plutonium nonsense. . and still turn up for tea and crumpets in style, with BBC radio cranked up to 11 xx #Pear anyone? :D though i have to admit, I'm rather disappointed by the aircon. The production quality has really made leaps and bounds over the years. Lot of low-budget films don't have such good video as this channel now. And the music highlights are absolutely exemplary.

That might have been me that passed you on the track! 😂 Upgrade the supercharger with one from SSC in Artarmon and use a charge cooled method. The intercooler/radiator will sit in the front and get overall better cooling and performance too. It’ll blow your mind with how fast it will be. I did this with my Lotus Exige and got 290WHP+ / 218rwkw+ (conservative tune) out of it and I may have been that car at SMSP that overtook all the other supercars and Lotuses 😂 I know modding these cars pretty well so message me if you’re looking for more info :)

Got to admit it’s really cool seeing you guys getting an Exige. I work for a lotus specialist over in England and we’ve just built our Exige race car and is currently being tuned on a custom ecu aiming for at least 300bhp. If you need any parts and can’t source them try us @ south west lotus centre

People love to say that, and my guess is that they've never owned one. They heard someone else say it and they thought it clever to repeat it anytime Lotus is brought up. The truth is that ever since 2008 when they started using Toyota engines, the Lotus cars are no more or less reliable that any toyota. Lotus' aren't perfect cars, but they aren't as unreliable as people say they are...especially Elise/Exige/Evora

As a UK viewer, I can't explain how excited I was when I saw a black Exige 🤯🤯🤯🤤🤤🤤 EDIT: whilst these are loved and massively rated in the UK, they aren't classed as a supercar over here. They just give you supercar performance.. particularly the handling! 😎

As a UK resident too, and having done some film work with supercars, The Exige is actually accepted by many supercar clubs, which means technically it is a supercar.

A bunch of years back I was lucky enough to get a ride along in one of these in the States. For the longest time I didn't really get the appeal of these tiny cars with what I thought was not enough power. After a 25 min ride down the highway, I fully understood the appeal. You've got yourself a legit track beast my friend. With some proper sticky tires, it should handle like it's on rails all day long.

@@gillhantson5318 im curious what the golf R sold for honestly. It was a sweet car and definitely a hardcore sleeper. But the exige is a different monster entirely. Those cars are insanely expensive, limited in their production and quite hard to find. Not a single one you can find online can be had Used for less than 50 grand. Also, the exige is a total gold digger magnet. ;)

Ya, with a top speed of around 150 mph I wouldn't consider it "super car" fast. There are tons of cars that can do 150. However they won't handle that well.

They won't generate downforce along the whole car either. That is quite rare in a "road car", most sporty cars only give you some at the front.

I'm from Norfolk, UK. It's a county not a town BTW. Also my dad worked at Lotus from the 70's through to about 15 years ago. Have been round the test track in Elans, Esprit and Elise. He also owned an old turbo Elan for a bit. Great cars but need so much looking after. But that just makes you love them even more IMO.

That quote refers to fact that they suffer mechanical damage quite quickly when abused on a track... When taken care of they have many advantages to other cars. The chassis is fully aluminium and the body is fibregrass/plastic, so forget about rust! ;) It's one of the few cars you can drive and park in the rain for 40-50 or more years that won't rust! ;) Furthermore they are very simple cars and lack the hundreds of electronic toys and gadgets on mercedes/bmw/etc... which all fail after 10-15 years... My Elise S3 is 6 years old now and I've never had ANY issue! ;) Don't let this quote stop you from ever buying one, as you will be robbing yourself of one of the most pleasurable driving and owning experiences possible...

@@alexisrenaudin1017 I love the S1's headlights, the whole front of the car looks like a "happy smiling frog's face" to me! ;) I have a 2014 S3 myself, it's my favourite possession ever! As long as you don't torture it on a track to the extreme, I don't see any reason why your S1 won't last a VERY long time without issues... There just aren't much gadgets that can break on elises... They are extremely simple cars... Just make sure to service the engine and transmission at right intervals...

Admittedly an IT guy here but having to “make do” with a megane sport. I’ve got stuff to carry around! I will say I’m jealous, always wanted one of these but am on more of an MR2 budget. My car makes 260hp and does 0-60 in 5.5s an Elise pretty much matches this with only 120hp 🤯 time to get the angle grinder out! Only 500kg to lose before I have a lotus 🙃

I can't get over the fact you brought a 240bhp lotus when you could have brought a 295bhp Porsche for half the price, fitted a turbo to it and left the lotus on the starting grid and still had two cup holders and a stereo. Also a daily driver...... Straight 4 Vs Straight 6....

@@iSOBigD watch the next video and the exige is supercharged! So I might be wrong, it weighs 900kg so it might be quicker although only 240hp...... I wouldn't say Porsche wasn't a nice looking or even better looking but that's just opinion on aesthetics. Personally I think lotus now look like go carts and can see the appeal as a track car but wouldn't bother even attempting to drive one on the road, especially in Britain.

@@04dram04 after a few more mods I will agree, the potential is there. Just like a stock supra is a sports car but I have seen built versions that would classify as super cars. This little engine produces one quarter of the power of the Toyota gr super sport ant they have approximately the same curb weight. Don’t get me wrong though, I have always loved lotus and have been astounded by the handling and dissatisfied with the power. You really can’t beat the reliability though.

They are designed to reliably work and take aggressive handling with ease, super forgiving throttle and adequate performance. Replacement engine parts are plentiful and cheap. None of these wonderful lotus attributes sound like a super car lol

Heh, I remember the day I bought my elise. Those gauge clusters are known for breaking. I need to fix mine as well. www.lotustalk.com/threads/instrument-cluster-issue.104218/ Also, do not allow the battery to go dead for too long, or you'll need to reprogram the ECU. The alarm system will eat the battery in 2 or 3 weeks, so keep it on a trickle charger when parked.

That'a strange... I have a 2014 Elise S3 and i've left it in my garage for periods up to 6 months or even 9 months when I was in the US for business reasons... Just disconnected the battery and never lost any ECU setting or any other issue... Maybe my ECU has an EPROM or ROM instead of RAM (which requires continuous power)

@@StephenCameron Hmmm... The 2005 is the S2 version. Maybe lotus got complaints and decided to switch to EPROM or ROM chips in the S3 version ? If it's an issue for you you might be able to get an EPROM or ROM from Lotus for the S2 model... But I'm just speculating... It should not do this though, as due to the nature of the cars (weekend toys) they often remain unused for weeks or months on end and sit in someone's garage, waiting for a nice sunny summer day to go for a spin...

I live a 30 min to a hour away from lotus, tvr, Bentley, Aston Martin, Jaguar, mclaren, Morgan, mini, Ariel, bowler, caterham, noble, radical, Rolls-Royce, ultima, zenos and marlin factory’s some are still open some are unfortunately closed but still have the remains of the factory and the car brands

My "achievable" dream car is an S2 Elise 111R. This Exige S240 is one of those with everything turned up to 11. Absolutely fantastic purchase! I am envious of the purity.
