I bought a SUPERCHARGED Jaguar for just £1500!

I've had two xkr (X100) 4.0L for the last ten years, lovely car, but you could be in for a heap of trouble here. I had to laugh when you went to the wrong end of the bonnet! Red ones are pretty rare, don't think they sold well. Several things from your vid: this car is pre Bluetooth (as are all the x100s). The phone buttons on the wheel are for in car mobile kit (if fitted). The rear quarter windows work off the roof button. You shouldn't have the red light on the dash!! The engines are pretty bullet proof, apart from the very early ones with Nikasil linings, even the super charger is quite reliable. Fuel pumps, water pump and temp housing, and (plastic) timing chain tensioners (disaster awaits if these fail - they need to be replaced by metal version) are the main issues . It is all the body work you need to worry about including the engine mountings and sub frame. The battery is crucial - they need a good battery or you will get all sorts of weird problems that don't appear to be related but are.

My neighbour was a car enthusiast and loved all cars and he had a Jag in the 90s and said only buy a Jag if you have lots of money to throw away.

Fully agree about cleaning the car. My car is normally clean but I always make sure it is before it goes to the garage for anything 👍

Quite normal for a colour mismatch to the front cover. Arrived pre painted from Germany and the bodies painted in Castle Brom, then assembled at Browns Lane.

Older cars with red paint are a nightmare. Machine polish it and it looks great, 2 weeks later it’s pink again. The pigment has gone, only a re spray will fix it

I had a tour of the Jaguar factory at Browns Lane a few months before the XK8 was launched. We got to see late prototypes and talk to the development engineers - fantastic day and beautiful cars. Hard to believe it was so long ago!

I've got a 2012 5.0 ltr, and you are so lucky with the battery location on that earlier model. Mine is up the back of the boot under the convertible hood, at 6ft 2 its a nightmare to get jump pack and trickle charger hooked up - this can be quite often as the battery state has a WHOLE LOAD of issue concerning effects with the car - could be worse though eh? looks and sounds a dream.

Lovely old XKR James reminds me of one my mate had (but black) he let me fetch some BBQ coals in one sunny afternoon....Yep, I was hooked after tha....t sadly due to his Ill health it stood on his drive from 2014 till he sadly passed in 2021....His daughter now runs it but cost £8000 to get it back roadworthy!!....Count me in on the raffle! 😉

on a coupe, if the battery has been disconnected (or dead) you will need to reprogramme the window travel. I assume it is the same on a convertible. When you open the door, the window drops slightly so that when you shut it the rubber seal doesn't get damaged. it then rises back up. Just send the window don and hold until you hear a click. Then send it up and hold until you hear a click and it should be done.

I was following XK8 prices a few years ago abd they were £500 to £1500 each. Going through that phase that XJS's went through in the late eighties and Mark 2's in the 70's.

Not often the arches are not rotten , I'd look under it before doing anything else . The M.O.T. advisories are for lots of rust underneath this car . Hope its just surface rust ....Good luck James..

Don't spend a penny more until you check underside for rust, those are built on the original XJS platform from the 70's and rust fast and badly.

The front of these looks great, on a par with the E Type, the rear looks too corporate Ford, then the side looks like an MX5! The F Type was a big improvement.

the green shower as its known. pretty common issue with these cars but not to difficult to fix. New hydraulic hoses from the pump to the front of the car. Complete kits are avaiable from third parties for the hoses etc.

'There's a few electrics not working', yep it's a Jag...Nice old motor but generally expensive to put right and usually a bit if a nightmare to work on.

I went on a jaguar test drive day in the late 90s and had a blast in one of these, it was new tho.

i think you will find the pipe has split as they all do. I replaced mine with uprated ones good luck with the Jaguar a lovely car

if the hoods anything like the xjs, it's not that difficult to sort, normally the seals leak in the rams, just swap them out. looks like the engines good, nice summer car. what's not to like? auto reserve at ilkeston will be the place for parts.

As others have said replace the battery, if it's been very low for a long time as I suspect this one has much better to replace it now and avoid lot's electrical gremlins later, the instrument display will probably be a failed bulb behind it although you may find the mileage display is not very good once you get it illuminated. I have owned a couple of these X100 an early XK8 1997 and 2004 XKR and I hope you don't get as many problems as I had, but over all I enjoyed both cars😀

First thing I would have done is look underneath. They are rotters at 25 years old. Brave person would buy that and that is why you were offered the car I suppose. Yes, a raffle car but not one some winners would take home. The paint looks past help and needs a repaint. My brother's Tartan Red MGB went that pinky colour had to be resprayed.

The handbrake, if you put it on, to release you press button pull up a bit before it will go down

I've got one and had the same problem you need to replace the complete hydraulic hoses front to back a good days job with all the seats out and carpets up an ok job just take your time then you should have no problems with the roof

Leaks in that area of the roof is a common failure point. There are loads of repair videos on YT James

The XKR sounds great and I bet it will go pretty well too. Old solid red cars all seem to fade and I think this could be an ongoing issue for the Jag. I really think there should be a law against putting a Leaper on any Jaguar that was made after the Mk 2 it just looks so naff!! hope the one on yours was stuck on rather than bolted! Look forward to watching the progress with this one.

were do one at mo the rear window s are on 2 relays you can put them up with a wire across the 2 large pin,s on relay in boot

Supercharger. I love that word. Sounds powerful, but expensive. In a Jag XKR, that’s a good way to lose money.

I like the old xkr. They are an absolute money pit. One job will always lead to another its just how Jags are.

If that Peugeot Partner is prepped, I can’t believe it’s not been sold yet. If it’s not prepped and you want some money back get that up for sale ASAP

I've never figured out why idiots have to put a leaping jaguar on the bonnet of all of these cars? If you want something to scream council estate chav stick an inappropriate bonnet ornament on your XK. As for the car, I'd be very happy to run it for a few years. The nikasil cylinder lining failure thing is the only thing I'd worry about but all seems good on this one, just keep up to date with a good fully synthetic oil. I did see this car in the background of another of your videos and wondered about it. I might even enter the raffle as they're good causes. Edit to say, we're not really a nation of people who fix their own cars these days. I run old vehicles and do all my own repairs and maintenance. I have a 2000 Disco TD5 I've run for 8 years as my work vehicle towing trailers etc and it's only broken down once in the first 2 weeks I'd owned it when the auxiliary belt broke due to a seized idler. One day I was fitting a new rear wheel bearing on the drive and some guy walked up to me and said 'Do you know what you're doing love?' Made me laugh when I explained what I was doing but it does show that things have changed when a relatively petite woman can impress a random bloke with her mechanical prowess 🤣

Looked nice when it was cleaned up, be better if you got it up on the ramp before you started, trouble with stuff like this, it's OK if you've a normal job with time off or retired, but for you it's just costing you 1000s in lost production, I mean it's not the first time mate.

I don't think the prancing Jag figurine is original, in fact I'd go as far to say it may be an MOT issue due to safety. But at 1500 sobs it's worth a go if you can fix yourself! The fluid leak might be induced by a previous attempt, more likely a position switch or two not making in the mechanism.
