I had this kit and what I did was to set the sensitivity at maximum for all the pads and to calibrate the hi-hat. After that it served me pretty well I would say.

I think the issue with the cymbals would definitely drive me over the edge, seems to be the main problem with these e-kits on the cheaper side of things. just swap back in the z80s and clap stack. Hybrid it up!

Had the same issue with the hi-hats and ride, no matter what affordable kit I've tried. Also highly recommended that you hook it up to a good drum VST library for much better sounds. 🤘

Nice review, man. The hats actually remind me of how my Alesis Nitro hats acted. The Nitro is only $350 USD and the hi hat pedal wouldn't allow any barks and broke permanently after 6 months. Hopefully you hear back on a way to remedy the problem. Great video!

My dad bought a 5k accoustic electric drum kit, and I've tested the techniques you've done and it works like a dream p, the hi hat is perfect like an accoustic, and then control centre is high quality, don't judge acdoustic electric drumkit when you buy one for a decent price, you get what you pay for, and with accousitc electric drumkit you have different effects, easier recording for making music, and NO HEARING DAMAGE from the ability to turn down the volume on the drumkit

Great video. Highlights the issue with cheaper kits. I’ve played in my band for several years with Roland kits, most recently TD50KVX with the digital hi hats. Game changer - but as you rightly point out, not cheap!

Check the high hat setting for a way to calibrate it.

Nice video, great demonstration of the difference in quality with e-kits, you’d definitely find a mid-range to top-end Roland jut way better. Also interesting to hear you talking about tinnitus with Zack on the other video, I would say an e-kit is a good way forward, but something I mentioned to someone else a few months back was that as a general rule, whether it’s drumming or music in the car, or on headphones, or music at home etc, it’s not good to go straight from loud sounds to nothing(silence) -for example when you have loud music on in the car and pull up at your destination and switch off, sudden changes of this nature can potentially become a factor in the onset of tinnitus, and of course it applies with all applications. I’ve never had tinnitus but since I learned about that a few years back I tend to decrease sounds gradually whenever possible, turning down volume before ending the sound completely. Having an e-kit is great, I only drum as a hobby but when playing for the last 3 years I have great levels in my headphones with no issues

If you are familiar with DAW and drum software plugins, you can just get an eDRUMin10 by Audiofront to trigger your drum software. You can pair a roland vh11 hihat (or something similar to vh11) with Audiofront's software to get a realistic hihat feel. But in your case, looks like you have a luxury to play loud acoustic cymbals in your room so the best option would be a hybrid setup.

Great video. Have u tried to connect it to a PC/Mac with for example the free version of Steven slate 5.5 SSL 5.5. The sounds are so much better. Better than every module out there.

Very interesting review. I'd be curious to know whether the missed notes are a drum pad problem or a module problem. Simple way to check would be to connect Roland pads to the module and see what happens. Might not work for the hi hat because hi hat triggering is more complex, but at least for the snare and toms they're probably just basic triggers on any brand.

good and honest review thank you, and yeah cymbals and especially the hi hats on cheaper e kits arent usually the best, apparently rolands vh-14d is pretty good tho but that is also not the cheapest. i personally do quite like e pads tho there usually pretty good except for maybe the really cheap ones

When it comes to E-Kits the cost is not as bad if you think what you get. Not only do you get the drums, but there are EQ's, Compression, Mics, Mixers, percussion instruments that is all part of the cost, I have use Roland E-Drums since the early 90's. Higher end Roland drum brains allows you to change mics and mic placement even change head types and muffling. By the time you buy all that stuff for a acoustic kit you be at the same cost as the E-Kit.

What I would do is to get my hands on the VH14 Hi-hats but they are quite expensive, around 900€ and then use software like EzDrummer 3.

I gotta say that you're a pretty solid player. I've seen other edrum reviews where people aren't, lets say, quiet as skilled lol but I have questions? 1. *Was this review done only with out the box settings?* Eg, no pad sensitivity tweaking, etc... 2. *Have you tried the kit with good drum vsts (something like GGD or toontracks vsts)?* Most edrum modules are not good with internal processing but tend to perform best over midi.

yhea , millenium 1000 hit hat is famous to not be calibrated well from the stock . there are plenty of videos around how to setup it in the menus and bring it to his full potential, it suck AT THE START but is tunable , and become a good one , you should go inside the menus and retune the triggers, also other parts can be tuned wildly and enprove performances a lot , is an amazing kit for this price hands down , is a pity that they send it with a non perfectly tuned unit , but .....

Wow now that's what I want to build but using my $5,000 Acoustic Pearl Drums turn them into Electronic Drum Kit and they would be Like a 2 In 1 Kit that you can play in your Apartment and play in Acoustic in a gig outside ( Electronic in doors and Acoustic for out doors) .👍

As someone who's being playing electronic drums for a long time, this kit really doesn't seem that bad for the price (compared to other kits). Yes, it's super expensive but compared to something like the Alesis Strike Pro SE which has pretty much all of the same issues for double the price or the Roland VAD506 which costs £3500 and still has a pretty meh hi-hat - the MPS1000 ends up looking like a pretty good option. I'm pretty sure the issue with the cymbals could be sorted by playing with the crosstalk and threshold settings (not sure if the module has these settings or not though) but the only way to fix your issues with the hi-hat would be to completely change your style and way of playing (which does not work well when transitioning between electronic and acoustic). I hope this kit encourages more companies to make acoustic styled kits. The price they sell for at the moment just makes it so hard for someone to justify; there's a reason why so many people are choosing to convert their acoustic kits themselves.

Firs solution to any use of e-drums is to use them with Superior Drummer 3 or if you want to go a bit cheaper, EZDrummer 3. Using Superior you can make a e-drum sound like you own the most expensive acoustics out there. Many of the hi-hat problems get solved with it. But any cheap hi-hat will still suck compared to acoustic. I built a 17 piece kit using 2 cheaper modules and use it with Superior 3.

You can make yourself triggers with a sampler like the sp 404 and contact mics. U can also put the mics on the inside of practice pads to make your own kit. I'm sure you can find even cheaper and better ways then going with something like this kit,you just have to get creative. Even the sample drum pads by Roland are good and cheap and with contact mics and practice pads you can make a bass kick and a snare for the unit.

If you read the manual im pretty sure it tells you to calibrate the hi hat before you start playing

Im thinkin about buy this kit, i use today alesis nitro mesh with EZ drummer 3. I hate the hi-hat on alesis and why i want to upgrade. Do you think the hi-hat is because of the module or its just bad that even EZ drummer cant fix?

i like to think of Ekits and Acoustic as 2 different instruments or tools, if you like to record tracks a lot or live in an apartment Ekits in my opinion are the best for thoes however i like acustic more for preforming and practicing as i get the full rebound of the stick from the drum head

For the cymbals that were miss-triggering, why didn't you switch the pads with know good pads to see if it was a faulty pad or module? I'd imagine that many would buy this kit just for the shells, and use their own module.

Personally for me using superior Drummer or ez drummer or GGD plug ins with electric drum kits is only the way to go all of its expensive it sucks, the stock sounds you get from even top end E kits are shocking tbh and de motivating to even wanting to play it. Sick video man the hi hat bit got me, the top range Roland hi hat on it's own is 1200 pounds Abouste pisstake 😂😂

Do you use it with Addictive Drums 2 or another plugins? I have Millenium MPS-750x. We have same hi-hats. I want to set up CC Hihat. I don't see how that's possible

Unfortunately, the hats on most e-kits do not work properly. Roland's newest kits seem to have fixed this problem, but that new hat will cost you a grand by itself. The versatility of sounds, the ease of recording, and the instructional /practice tools of e-kits are what makes them most useful and thus worth buying. Of course, how much those things fit into someone's present drumming journey will determine whether an e-kit is a good investment for the individual.

But if u compare it to Simmons and Alesis at that price range they preform the same

Admittedly e drum kits do need to improve a lot, for someone new like me, there's no better alternative at the moment to practice. Makes a huge difference when you live with other people.

I actually have the mps 850 right now, the sound is garbage so I decided to plug it to EZdrummer3 (a software with drum samples) for 170€ and oh boy it was worth it my drumkit sounds so much better Edit: playing an electronic drumkit without a external software is a no go these days

Lol, I agree re most electronic kits are ugly. Being not thrilled w my Alesis "skeleton" kit, I want more realistic acoustic sounds, esp toms, which sound too processed in the Alesis. Good demo. I've only learned of this dev's existence like this week, lol. I'm looking at Nux also.

The problem with the not playing of the sound on the ride and snare comes from a setting in the module. You can adust the time between notes in the advanced setup. Its called sensetime. Put that close to 0 and you are good! And for the wrong cymbal sound: put the cymbals a bit lower, so that you hit it at a different angle (or lift your arms in relation to the tip of the stick)

Imagine buying that and pluggin it into ezdrummer..daang,

price means nothing ,when you buy 1 acoustic drumkit you get 1 kit , when you buy a new electric drum kit you get at least 50 useable drum kits and can change cymbal sizes ,drum sizes and so much more

Hi guys. I started with an Thomann Millenium MPS-850. And yeah the hihat was the first thing I needed to replace. Now I use a DIY Hall sensor detector on a real hihat stand and a Lemon 15" triple zone cymbal pad on a eDRUMin10 module with superior drummer. Yeah!!!! But that rack and the low-price tom pads I still use and grabbed some more, even tho. And for the optics I grabbed the large Lemon 18" ride and 15" triple zone cymbal pads. Works like a dream. With this knowledge I would buy a cheap acoustic kit DIY convert it to an ekit with the Audiofront eDRUMin10 trigger2MIDI interface and Lemon cymbals and go with Toontrack EZDrummer3! Baaam! Awesome!
