Today, I reveal the latest addition to my fleet! The spiritual, although not direct successor to my 944. I also talk a little bit about what happened with that car and why it went so quickly.

This man is one of the only people on RU-vid that I trust to be genuine in everything he says and does. I’ve been watching for about four years now and if those demented enough to send horrible messages had been watching for that long as well then they wouldn’t even think of accusing this man of anything other than wanting to give fresh, honest, decent content that we can all enjoy.

I agree wholeheartedly. His style is genuinely reminiscent of classic Clarkson, Hammond and May, but he presents his reviews solo, and he's not an asshole. Hah! I love the TG/GT guys, but they have been dicks in the past. If Jay teamed up with Rory Reid and Mat Watson, I'd watch that all the time.

Ignore the trolls, James. Nice to see a transaxle car getting some exposure and yours looks like a lovely example. I was really hoping it was going to be a 928 like mine. If that 968 was mine, I'd delete the side mouldings (like I did with my 928) and add a Blaupunkt Bremen SQR46 to give modern comforts like DAB, Bluetooth handsfree and streaming. Be careful with your choice of wheels - there are a few people in the 928 community that put stuff like 19" turbo twists on who then have to modify the suspension, flare the rear arches and then complain their car doesn't handle any more. I personally wouldn't go above 17" on any car of that period.

I personally would fit the CS brakes (the same brakes you would find in a contemporary 928 GTS), larger 17 inch "Cup 1" alloys (also found originally in all 968 CSs) and a more modern, better Bilstein suspension system. In doing so you will retain all the originality and make it a better driver and a better looker!

Yeah, I have 225/45r17 on the front & 255/40r17s on the rear of my 944 turbo on Michelin PS2s. They work very well. I did consider going to PS4s but they didn't do Porsche N coded tyres in that size and I preferred that so the PS2s it was. I think they were N03 spec. Lose the side strips and mine has original cup wheels which are an inch bigger I think and give it a much nicer look. It's the best car I've ever owned.

I removed the whole rear windscreen wiper mechanism from mine a few years ago as well. I just didn’t like the thought of all that weight hanging off the rear glass (no matter how well they made that hole!). I’ve hardly ever missed it as the screen really clears itself pretty well, and make the back cleaner like you say.

Congratulations on the 968! I had one, also a 1992 for 15 years, sold 2 years ago. The only mods i did were stainless steel brake lines, front strut brace, M030 sway bars and delrin bushings. If you only did one of these, I would suggest the M030 sway bars, it made the cornering more flat in front. Enjoy the car!

Sorry for your pain with the trolls. I club raced a 968 for 14 years in California with quite a few class wins, and had a great time. So balanced and durable, it was pretty amazing how much fun it was to race and how little in maintenance it required to run year after year.

James, I own a 968 and was really happy to see you reveal the car! I'm excited to see what you do with it. A few common mods are: change exhaust, modify intake box and put a stage 1 chip in. You will only get modest HP gains from this, but many say it really improves the sound of the car. I've found the most active community for the 968 to be on FB. I have the PDF of the shop manual and part catalog if you want them.

Did these same mods to mine. Found the chip to also smooth out power delivery when the variocam kicks in.. Also added m030 sway bars and koni adjustable shocks.

Ok suggestions: Big red brake kit, M030 suspension kit, Cup wheels, 968 Turbo S front valance, 968 Turbo S rear spoiler, delete the side strakes. There might be a smidge to come from a better exhaust manifold and some intake tuning and a remap but I'd be amazed if you can find another 15%. I'd rebush the suspension too. Getting the chassis spot on is the key to loving your 968 I think.

The people who accused you of “not really winning the car” are judging you by their own standards in my opinion, you’re probably the most transparent RU-vidr that I watch. We’ll done on the win and keep the great content flowing just the way it is at current. Cheers Jay 👍🏼👍🏼

Bigger OEM wheels with spacers. Clear indicators. Brake upgrade. Light tint to rear windows. Update the intake to get it growling and get it lightly tuned. If you can make the wheels a bright colour in honour of the club sport that would work. Then enjoy it. 👍😀

Congrats on the 968. Had one myself back in the early 2000s as my entre into the brand and loved it. Have had about 5 updates since, most recently enjoying a 2019 911 Targa 4 gts... all manual!... and never any surprise issues. Enjoy!

I’ve just paused this video at 2:18 to comment. Jay, you’ve no idea how much you and the channel have gone towards helping with my own and maybe others mental health during the past few years. You’re a brilliant guy, excellent presenter and (I’ve not met you personally) you seem to have a good soul. Keep all the mentioned in mind and stay positive. Your strength, courage and determination to produce highly watchable content MUST and ALWAYS outweigh any BS* some W**K*RS that send your way. Stay strong brother. ❤️ life - 1 ❤️

I'm not a huge Porsche fan and don't know much about them but found this absolutely fascinating. Thank you so much for the backstory and history of the car. I'm sad to see the 944 go cause I really enjoyed the look of the 944. (the only one to not have "bug eyes" as my wife calls them) And i'm sad that something that should have been good for you, turned bad. I hope this car gives you all the joy you should have had with the 944. Cheers!

Congratulations James on the 968. I bought one of these in 2020 and recently noted that North American classic car insurer, Hagerty recently named the 968 as the highest appreciating coupe Porsche has. So, your timing is good. As for mods, I put 18 inch cayman wheels on mine (had them powder coated to a gun metal gray colour) new Porsche centre caps for those wheels and also ordered a front chin spoiler like the CS. Those two mods make the car look great. Enjoy your new 968!

Body side moulding and those wheels make this car a classic so new brakes and tyres are a must.

Basic modifications to do like performance stainless steel exhaust and a nice big induction system that is encased not open to let it breathe the cold air, a set of more modern porsche wheels that fit correctly with appropriate good tyres, just find the right wheels you like to keep it as OEM as possible. Not much else I'd do to it if ya wanna keep it fairly standard. Maybe some nice Coilovers for handling. Pop the parts you take off in the garage incase you want to revert it back to original state. Nice lil motor that 👍🏻

Good choice. I was looking for one of those but ended up buying a very good 1987 924S from a great Porsche specialist. I have had it for three and a half years and have put 16k miles on it. It's been a dream with very few issues.

The one thing that a significant number of 911 drivers hate admitting, the water-cooled front-engine transaxle Porsches saved Porsche’s financial @$$. I’m a proud owner of a 944s2 cabriolet. I love my car……but I could consider moving up to a 968; but!! I’d have to go with a cabriolet. Top-down driving is so cool. And I’m not sure what the hell so many people had problems with you, I’ve seen only a few of your videos…..and I think you do one helluva great job in conveying the beauty and style, the driving feelings, of the cars you drive. Drive on, brother!!

Never been a big Porsche guy throughout my life, but as I'm getting older they're really growing on me. Didn't even know the 968 was a thing so quite interesting to hear about. As to the matter of the other part of the video, backlash from the 944, I can't believe people would behave like that towards someone who is probably one of the most genuine, fair and trustworthy personalities on RU-vid, not just car-tubers but RU-vidrs in general

My only spell as a Porsche owner was in the late 90s when I owned a 944. Absolutely loved the car and still miss it today (don't miss the cracked dash though they all suffered from). The internet is such a cruel and dark place sometimes you're best just ignoring the idiots out there and take the positives from your other viewers. Fairly new to your channel but seeing a lot of the roads used in your reviews have been in Scotland I love trying to spot exactly where they are.
