Have to admit, this is one of those situations that has really frustrated me as a collector. At best it feels tone deaf on Marvel's part and at worst it feels like a cynical money grab. I think it'll have a cooling effect on collectors as well, I know I'll probably scale back a bit on my omni collecting, at least for a little while.

Man this is the kind of stuff that made me sour on collecting a few years ago. I can appreciate Marvel trying to make omnibus collecting more accessible by separating events and individual runs. But it feels like they made this needlessly complicated just to squeeze some more money out of their customers. Sorry that you have to try to figure out how to unload something you just bought, that’s a bummer

194-209 is a great run and my favorite time period of the entire Claremont epoch (starting in the 180s) -- I have all the original issues & read them as they appeared as a kid :)

I prefer my new mutants, uncanny X-men, and X-factor separate with only important tie ins included to tell the full story.

It was upsetting when the announcement of Prelude came out a few days after I opened my Vol. 5. I have since sold my Vol. 5 in anticipation of the Prelude Omnibus.

Except for a couple keys you can get original X-factor comics for next to nothing (including 1-4) so you might just want to pick them up raw piecemeal for cheap :)

Yeah, the same thing basically happened to me as well. Now, from my perspective, I have "Mutant Massacre" and "Fall of the Mutants" but missed "Prelude to Inferno", "Inferno", and the Claremont and Jim Lee omnis. I am more of a completionist, though, and I am more interested in future volumes of Uncanny, X-Factor, and New Mutants. This will likely print a lot of orphaned material that the existing event omnis skipped like X-Factor, specials, one-shots, and guest appearances. I think the deciding factor is when you got into this hobby and what you already have.

I was starting to collect the new mutants issues 1-60 in single issues prepandemic but decided to stop and wait fo three omnibus and I am thinking of getting the X-factor one too! Hard choices to make but it is odd the the volume 5 and the prelude are essentially that same thing!

My personal opinion I don't care for crossovers in which you're forced to buy a garbage title with mediocre art just to understand the story better which for me I'd stick with the X-Men Omnibus because I want the X-Men and just only the X-Men.

I brought the Uncanny X-Men omnibus vol 5, but for myself I could not justify double dipping that much. So I bought the X-Factor Epic Collection vol 1 to get almost all the issues I was missing. Same for New Mutants omnibus vol 3, I owned almost 90% of that book in other books. I bought the X-Factor Epic Collection vol 1 to fill in the issues I was missing.

I am disappointed; I got the UXM omni as soon as it was available and now I feel cheated. I think I’ll keep it since, I already have the first X-Factor Epic Collection Volume, so I won’t miss out on the issues, but this kind of inconsistency about collected editions is very annoying.

Well thanks for this video. I have recently started to expand my collection. I have Uncanny 1-3. I need them to do a reprint of 4 and then Prelude will be mine as it does not release until Aug. Even though it is more expensive it is worth it to me. There are so many choices it is crazy. I got the Micronauts the other day and it was 1977 again. Please tell everyone in your circle of influence to bombard WB for a Warlord Omnibus.

I also got Uncanny vol. 5 and I’m gonna get X-Factor omni to complete my set. Seems like the most complete route to me.

I was a little upset at first but I am keeping my UXM vol5. I love the Magneto cover on the dust jacket better than any of the MM Prelude. Also, I was already planning to buy the X-Factor omnibus. Like you BJ, I do not buy all x titles. I am not interested in new mutants or excalibur, but I am excited about X-Factor because it has the original team and the origin of Apocalypse. Having UXM vol 5 and X-factor, I do not need that MM Prelude, I'm good.

You said it yourself, you can go the event route, or the complete run route (you can also add the creator route). So why do both? What did you expect? Pick a route and learn to be patient.

I don’t think the event route was an apparent thing at the time. We all assumed the only way to get this would be the Uncanny X-Men volumes. Moving forward, I think it’ll be easier for people to choose a route now.

I own the X-Factor vol.1 Epic Collection so I'm satisfied with X-Men vol 5 and I like the cover better than the upcoming prelude omni but I can see why Marvel made the decision to keep the X-Men and X-Factor omnibus books separate. The prelude is an events tie in and I will skip buying it. The double dipping with all these event omnis is a little grating like the Fall of the Mutants omni.

Really wish they would have released this prelude Omni instead of volume five of uncanny. I just canceled my order for uncanny 5 cuz I came across this video, now I have to wait till August to continue the Clermont X-Men run this sucks.

I just bought this Xmen vol 5 last week on ebay for $50.00. i havent read it but i heard it was so/so....but i got it to complete my omni line. Im also feeling the Budget thing now...i have an omni addiction!

Yeah, the good thing about the announcement is if you want an Uncanny X-Men vol. 5, you can get one for cheap since collectors are trying to dump them in favor of the Mutant Massacre prelude.

I would not say it was a bad purchase. You are buying the Uncanny X-Men omnibus and it should only contain the issues related to the characters from that series. The first X-Factor series don't even matter to set-up the event. I personally don't like the event omnibus except for The Fall of the Mutants. I don't want to have an omnibus that has "Prologue" on the title, that's just ugly. I do not like it for Inferno and certainly don't like it for Mutant Massacre. I would actually recommend to wait for the Uncanny X-Men vol. 6 because that will cover the Uncanny X-Men issues included in the Mutant Massacre omnibus, The Fall of the Mutant omnibus and a little bit of the Outback era.

Most now prefer the collected editions as we can read them again and again without opening a plastic bag and board. We are readers first and second book collectors. Except for really the rare ones, you can't really fund your sons college tuition with your collection.
