I Broke My Silencer

I found out the hard way why you should never put a crush washer with your shims on your muzzle device that your silencer attaches to. I have a Keymount Nox system with the Energetic Arms Vox S silencer. I accidentally put a crush washer on one of my AR15s and it canted the muzzle device just slightly so I started getting strikes on the end cap. Luckily, they were not strikes on the baffles.
Learn from my mistakes. No crush washers.

As I was watching I was thinking to my self it may have been a crush washer. Then I saw the muzzles with all the shiny shims except for one. That stinks big time. Glad you shared this.

before you fire a weapon with a silencer for the first time , always make sure to set it up with a alignment rod. is probably a good idea.

Ouch! Also even if a suppressor is loose just an 1/8 turn it will move the bullets a lot. I’ve learned that if I start missing i look at the suppressor first then optic then other things.

So there is no damage to the baffles? I have seen that happen, and without leaving chunks of metal inside the can.

Correct, baffles are all good. Pretty insane how strong this Vox S is.

Any reason for timing the flash hider?

That particular one that I had on my barrels has flash hiding and some extra gas ports to mitigate muzzle right and drift as well so those had to be timed but typically any other flash hider doesn't need to be timed unless it has some sort of directional gas ports.

Correct terminology is a suppressor. No such thing as a silencer

The US National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934 defined silencers and established regulations limiting their sale and ownership. Both the US Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) use the term silencer. Hiram Percy Maxim, the original inventor of the device, marketed them as "Maxim Silencers".

@@gsxawd981 The term is actually "silencer" but we understand they don't silence the noise so we call them suppressors because it makes more sense. Really, the point is both terms are used for the exact same thing. Just like people call their van a car. You say let's get in the car, not let's get in the van. But you could also say let's get in the van and everyone still understands the same message.
