Some thoughts on carrying a knife EDC Knives in order on screen Emerson CQC 13 Paragon Phoenix from Asheville Steel Hogue X5 flipper Benchmade 531 Pardue ProTech half-breed Benchmade 3150 impel
The worst people are the ones that ask you if you have a knife, you give it to them, they use it what they needed it for and while giving it back, ask you: What do you carry this for anyway?
Nah the worst people are the ones who want to look at and inspect one of your knives so you tell them to be careful and they cut themselves but blame you for them cutting themselves.
@@danieldo8859 for that exact reason you always carry some chunk of shitty steel from walmart. I don't care if my $4 donor knife gets damaged especially if it saves my baby from damage. She is for rope and plastic and if anyone else touches her she gets scared.
One of the biggest three-word lies in our society: "easy-open packaging." I had to use a knife to open up such packaging today. Ironically, the product inside was a knife.
EcchiSpud I have a box with a knife in it and I need a knife to open it but the reason I got the knife in the box was so I could use the knife in the box to open boxes.
That One Super Saiyan every mans worst enemy, god damn scissors. Once I bought a package of scissors that just wouldn't open so I bought another pair of scissors and that box wouldn't open. Needless to say now I have about 30 boxes of scissors and no way to open them. Anyone need some scissors?
Non knife people don’t understand that a knife is not just a cutting tool, it’s also a companion. I’ve carried a knife nearly everyday for the past 20 years. Having a cutting tool that I can rely on when I need it has saved my ass more than a few times in my life. My knife is more reliable than most people I’ve met. My knife is a true friend, and I honor it by carrying it and caring for it.
@@Thedende I'm just British and the thought of someone walking around with a knife isn't a normal thing in the uk and it's heavily restricted and having one in a toolbox is normal but you wouldn't really carry one here
I've been carrying a knife since I was a kid. And I'll never forget one day not too long ago. I was out in public and a man noticed the knife on my waist. And of course he had to make a comment. It something like did I think I was tough or something to that effect. (I am a girl )But I just had to laugh at him and explain that I find a use for my knifes on a daily basis! And there has been many circumstances where I'm very thankful that I've had one on me! You're absolutely right people don't realize how often they would use it if they actually had one. Especially because now my friends all know that I carry one so they're constantly "Hey let me use your knife!" Lol
The people who try to shame others for carrying knives or guns or whatever are the weakest people out there they think not carrying makes them so brave and strong and they make fun of people like us for "acting tough" with knives. It just shows how insecure and irrationally afraid of inanimate object they are.
@@yomo9781 Because it seemed to have mattered in this situation. All of the guys I know have never had anyone point out the fact that they carry a knife or have had their balls busted because of it. 🤷♀️ I honestly don't think that guy would have said a word to me about the knife if I had been a guy.
Lugermonger k I love ur vids but the paragon warlock and balisong is illegal where I live and I've not gone through puberty so I'm not even allowed Legal ones but I still love ur vids
I am below 18 and own a small knife collection. I find this very helpful because I am glad to be allowed to carry a knife around though i don't at all times because i live in a city but, i think that in general one should bring a knife anywhere. Also i think that it would be more useful to carry like a swiss army knife for its multiple tools for different situations. Thank You.
My teacher brought Swiss army champ to a class , next day I brought my Boker , he said it was cool and since that day I carry my boker with me every day
You make very good points, I often notice that the strict knife laws of the UK make carrying knives (except for non locking folding knives of 3 inch or less blade length, so basically a small to regular sized swiss army knife) illegal in public, causing knife use with legitimate non-violent reasons to become unseen to the average individual, that coupled with the only news they hear about knife use being crime, gradually shapes their view on knives negatively, and creates a knock on effect where more restrictions get introduced. It's a vicious cycle, I am fond of bushcraft and while mentioning to my mother I'd bought a nice quality Gransfors Bruk small forest axe she commented "why are you buying weapons?", I found it worrying that her first thought when she heard the word "axe" was weapon, and not chopping or splitting tool, she has no problems using a cleaver in the kitchen but isn't exposed to outdoor woodchopping so doesn't think about legitimate use.
What's wrong with bringing a knife to a funeral? I carry my knife on me every day. Do I use it every single day? No. Do I know if I'm going to be using on any particular day? No. That's why I always have it on me no matter where I go. Unless it's a federal building, in which case I take it out of my pocket and leave it in my truck.
I have my knife on me everyday work, school, etc. I'm in an automotive program associates degree. So I use it at school a lot and we get a pass because we need our tools at school.
Legit places like schools or areas where it’s a clear no-no are the only places I don’t have a knife on me, but I have a knife on me at all times. It’s not like I’m having a combat knife strapped to my chess. It’s a pocket knife. I’ll pull it out and use it when I need it, I’ll cut fruit. I’ll open packages. I’ll use it for really any proper usage of it. Hell, I’ve had my family ask to borrow my knife in Public. It’s a good thing to have on you regardless if it’s just chilling in your pocket, or your car or purse. I feel everyone should have a simple knife accessible to them for the sole use of utility
I was just in the bathroom and saw there was a string hanging off my shorts, so i pulled out my trusty Kalashnikov and cut it off, just one of the many things i use it on every day
I bring a knife everywhere except for schools and airports and places like that I got my first little knife at 7 it was this little Swiss Army knife from my dad's old job 5 years later I'm carrying my favorite knife that I bought by myself a benchmade 909 black on black
@Churt Gurt Well, he just said he has and has had a knife since he was 7, obviously, that's why he's watching knife videos. I got my first knife at 7 too! A swiss army knife, unfortunately, I used it to extinction which is sad because I wish I still had it.
Try living in the UK dude. Its fuckin ridiculous! You can get done for carrying a 'UK legal' knife if you don't have a good reason to have it on you. You end up opening boxes and packages when your out the house with keys and pens.
VG13 No one is going to make you problem as long as you dont flash it around, put it on table in bar or such. Why the hell the cop is going to pick you out of milions of people? And even if he finds out that knife is illegal,he is not going to do anything considering you are adult and that you can murder someone with pen.
in finland you cant carry anything that has a knife on it or is in a way like a knife unless you need it for some task in here the cops can basically take your leatherman if you dont have a good enough reason to carry it
I have been collecting knives for years, but I despise the use of the word “sheeple” for people who don’t use/carry knives. Some people just don’t want or need knives, or can’t because of financial or legal reasons, and I find nothing wrong with that.
these are the same people who end up needing a trip to the dentist because they were gnawing on a package trying to open it. im done justifying myself to normies.
I've been carrying a Leatherman tool absolutely everywhere absolutely all the time since 1997. I wore out two sheaths and it's currently riding in the third one.
I brought my little browning knife to my great grandmothers funeral and surprisingly the funeral director had to use it to pry the name plate off the earn.
I always always always carry a folding knife in my back pocket daily and a small to medium fixed blade on my belt. It is just as natural to me as putting shoes on and I get just as panicked if I somehow forgot one as I'm leaving the house. This being said my state (Arizona) is extremely liberal with knives and we are allowed to carry essentially everything so I don't think twice about it. However, I have gotten double looks from people when I'm holding something like a package or a snack in plastic and then instinctively pull a knife out, flick it open and proceed to use it only to get people who seem shocked. As if I was waiting to do that, "oh I'm such a badass whipping my knife out" move when in reality I just wanted to eat some beef jerky. A lot of it is based on Hollywood I've noticed. You can pull out say a Buck 110 knife and say the cliché story of, "this was my grandfathers" and someone would respect it because it *looks* vintage and collectable and they usually will ignore the fact that it really could hurt and kill someone. In the same breath you could also pull out say a Spyderco ParaMilitary 2 and because you are use to the mechanics and naturally flip it open faster and (gasp) it has a black handle and looks so "tactical!" that it must be a weapon of evil! That one always bothers me.
I carry a small folding knife to school. It was helpful some times, but other times i was at the point that i had to explain why i carry a knife. Now some of my teachers carry knives in school
BT 360 hey i have two questions. 1. Can you give me some perspective onto the reason you would bring a knife to school. Like is it more for self defense cause i dont see that many things at school worth cutting. 2. How long have you been carrying one for
Anonymous Assassin I carry a knife to school, because there are actually a good amount of things to cut. Like in a class where i work on wood or so it is pretty good to have one with you. It is for cutting stuff and not tha self defense crap . I hate the idea of a knives being weapons. I think like 6-7 months or so. Not so long. The knife i carry is small and doesnt look scary at all. It has like a 2.6 inch blade and it is a Sheepsfoot blade.
BT 360 i see. I wish i could bring a blade to school but that would not turn out good. XD most teachers at my school never even laid a finger on a hammer.
That's why I carry two: one full-size heavy duty ready knife and another small edc sheeple-friendly folder, which usually tends to get more use out of. Interesting story here for ya. My mom is the kind of person that gets terrified by knifes. Yet she knows I always carry some utility blade on me. Recently she got diagnosed with cancer and she's undergoing chemotherapy. Whenever I visited her at hospital she aksed me if I have a knife. There was always some sort of cutting task to do. Getting rid of labels on clothing items, opening stuff. Hell, she didn't have any sharp knife at hand to cut a friggin cucumber, only a dull butter knife. And so I bought her a small gentle folder and she's been using it ever since.
Meh it depends, i stopped carrying my knife when i worked a desk job in the city for a year because i never actualy used it. But now that i travel more and work a diffrent more active job i use it way more often. Realy just depends on lifestyle.
The type of guy who waits for any moment some needs help cutting something; you don’t need to carry a knife; you have a hobbyists perspective which doesn’t capture reality.💯
I brought a blackened blade Ontario RAT 2 to a friend’s funeral a few months ago for no other reason than I would’ve felt naked without a knife on me. Was fairly certain I wouldn’t need it (and I didn’t), but it had to tag along, anyway. The Late Boy Scout talks about his “church carry” blade from time-to-time, which I believe is a CRKT M-16. Anyway, just found your channel and subscribed before the first video was even over! Thanks for your reviews.
It's an interesting point - people who don't carry knives don't need them. And to some extent that's true, they get along fine without them. I live in England, where any knife carry is considered taboo, and people think I'm dangerous or psychotic for carrying a small slipjoint with me. Even my closest friend thought it was weird, until I bought him his first knife. A tiny Victorinox keychain knife, blade barely bigger than one inch. And a few months later I asked him how he was getting on with it, and he says he uses it *all the time.* People think they don't cut anything, and they might not, but a small pointy piece of metal is invaluable for *so* many other tasks. Light prying, reaching something in a hard to reach area, removing a splinter, making a mark in something when you don't have a pen to hand, sharpening a pencil, and of course cutting - tape, cardboard, paper, blister packs. I've seen people use their keys for these tasks, and I've seen people break their keys doing it. I'd encourage everyone to try carrying a small knife, and just realise how useful it is...
Not a knife but I take a box cutter to work in a bakery, great for boxes and more. I found myself carrying it in my back pocket out of work out of habit and I find myself using more often than not. I haven't needed a knife instead of the little box cutter but all you knife people are justified, great tool. Gotta respect the big collections and cool knives too
Interesting thoughts. I always collected knives to some degree but I only started carrying them in every day life a couple of years ago. Partially because of strict knife laws but aldo because it never occured to me. I opened boxes with my house keys and improvised a knife in other ways. Then I got a job where I always had a knife on me. But in civillian life I kept reaching for the knife I never had because I was used to having it at work. It simply made everyday tasks so much easier. So I figured "Who's going to look in my pocket as long as I mind my own buisiness?" And I started carrying a leatherman. That quickly became a leatherman and a folding knife. I got used to having the right tool at the right time and felt bad when I didnt. After that it got easier to motivate buying new knives because I use them now, I don't just collect them. I recently added some automatics to my EDC rotation. I think about it sometimes, why I carry knives and how my surroundings look at me for doing it. Some people like my wife are a little intimidated by knives, my kids are fascinated, my friends and collegues think I'm a bit silly and call me the knife guy. What it boils down to is that its fun really. If it was about anything else I would have stopped at a leatherman. Only a fellow "knife guy" will get it. I also think your friend is right about society. Depending on where you lived a slipjoint knife or Mora was either in the pocket or on the belt of everyone here in sweden. Its sort of like how no one wears a watch anymore because society has other ways to tell you the time. But recently some people started wearing them again for other reasons than necessity.
To tell you the truth. I did bring my knife to a funeral, but I carry my knife everywhere, no matter what. I have to protect me and my family or the people around me so I do bring my knife. Surprising to others I use my knife a lot, especially at my job. So I do agree with you.
I gotta give this person credit, they came up with a different question that isn’t just the same old “Why are carrying a weapon?” Or “Why do you need a knife?”. Instead they came up with something like how packaging has become more fool proof, not just calling every a knife a weapon
Nah, I have a few knives but I'm not weird enough to carry it at all times. Fishing, camping, going far out in the outdoors are all I need em for. The times where I "needed" one when I didn't have one in extremely rare cases, my blunt ass keys where more than easy enough enough to do the job.
I not only carry a knife with me, I also have one of those multi purpose tools, and I kid you not, my professors have used my knife and tool more times that I have. From opening water cooler jugs, to cutting some zip ties that where placed in a stupid area, and everything in-between. It's kinda amazing being known as "the tools guy" and never seizing to amaze some random student at what I carry on my bag
Wow they are all gorgeous. I live in the Philippines and as a girl, I think I should have one of these specially I often walk alone at night from work. Time to save up some money.
I’d say that the CIVIVI elementum in Damascus CF would be a fine funeral knife, same with some of the protech, WE, and ZT knives. Now those are higher end ones but it’s a nice looking knife that works well and fits the color scheme well for a funeral.
I carry a bench made 551 and I get what u mean. Whenever I get a package whether I need to or not I will still pull it out and cut it open for the hell of it
I wish I had this experience. I carry a knife with me every day and I haven’t used it once since this summer. If someone stole it from my bag, I might not even notice.
dude my best friend passed away February 2016 and my mom in May 2016 I carried my Spyderco Fox SpyFox knife and blackhawk hawkhook to both funerals I know they would understand and expect me to sadly my spyfox my zt0450 and cold steel broken skull got stolen by a so called friend at his house when I rented there 2 months ago. good vid I knew they'd both understand
idk I could imagine a knife in that situation being used to cut flowers or something before the ceremony or maybe some ribbon for tying the flowers together
I don't think I've ever seen a man on my dad's side of the family ever without a knife. I don't normally because I live in a state that would cause me problems, but I always end up needing one and not having it.
I have a nice folder on me 99% of the time and a Swiss Army Card in my wallet 100% of the time and that card has been the best $20 I've ever spent in my entire life. It has a tiny 1 inch(ish) blade, scissors, a file/screw driver, tweezers, tooth pick, blue pen and a pin. I've used that knife to cut water bottles to make a funnel, cut off loose strings, open a package etc etc etc. Knives are absolutely invaluable in day to day use. Some times I'll go weeks without needing a knife but eventually there's always that one time that a knife is a necessity and other people will regret not having one
I have EDC'ed a folding knife (and for at least the last 5 years a Leatherman Wingman as well) everyday since I was 12 years old (I am in my late 40's now) and to be honest feel naked without it. I use my folder everyday many times for everyday cutting tasks (cutting cordage, opening boxes, opening letters, opening packages etc etc etc) and like you probably cut things unnecessarily but who really cares, a pocket knife gives me a wonderful sense of fulfillment and I will be honest I place a lot of personal identity on knife carriage/ownership. Remember a knife is probably man's oldest manufactured tool and I believe knife ownership/carriage is an atavistic trait for many of us. Also better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I have recently too carried my EDC (folder and multitool) to a funeral, and as you say the destination is almost irrelevant (the only time I remove my EDC is when I am legally obligated to, for example going onto school grounds, or entering a cop station)
