This video is all about tackling those little details, I've been putting off. Watch me build the back door, shutters, door knob and store signage. This video is also my first try at recording my narration while building. My hope is it adds more personalty to my video. It's very different for me. Let me know what you think. Please bear with me as I try this type of editing style. Thanks!!

I agree with the others that it is interesting to listen as you verbalise your thought process Laura. Solving problems is what miniatures is all about isn’t it? I really appreciate that you make everything from scratch, including the door handles and knobs, wow! Thank you so very much for sharing your super power🥰

Good morning Lucy!! Thanks! I tried something new in this video. It’s not a voice over. I’m hoping it adds a little more personality. 😆 The voice overs were getting kind of monotonous for me, and I thought maybe also to others as well.

@@Lauras-tinyview yes I do think it’s a better idea. Just hearing you discuss your next move is helpful lol. Your voice is very soothing btw. I forgot to tell you about when you mentioned your neck area hurting when you use your X-Acto knife…omg that is such a big issue with me. The older I get the less I can press down without creating myself a lot of pain.

@@lucyl6425 I have heard my voice is soothing. My daughter and brother are both nurses,in different states, they watch my videos with the other nurses to relax. I’m sorry to hear you have that same issue with your neck. Luckily I don’t have arthritis in my fingers so cutting with the scissors isn’t a problem. I don’t want to have to give it all up anytime soon. I enjoy so much. It’s a stress reliever for me.

@@Lauras-tinyview oh, that’s really nice that they are soothed by your voice. They probably are very happy that you decided to make videos. I know I could listen to you for hours lol. Oh I know that’s what I keep telling myself I want to keep on crafting forever, it’s my sanity and stress reliever. I do have arthritis in my hands especially my thumb area but it’s funny how I can cut with scissors fine, but at night when I’m all done and laying in bed that’s when I feel my hands hurting.

Cheryl thank you so much for the feedback about the video. Im hoping it adds more personality. Next weeks video I show how I did the galvanized tubs. The mica powder and Modpodge mixture is gorgeous on that door knob. It looks so real. I will definitely try that. Great job on the door and shutters, also. The hand lettering...wow. My hands are not that steady.🤣 I cut the way you do a lot of times, also, and for the same reason - 2 cervical spine surgeries and lots of neck and back pain. But making things keeps me sane and takes my mind off of the pain. Loved this as always!

Everything is great. Really partial to vintage signs and that door knob is amazing. As for dark wood items, I can't picture how much space you have outside but have you thought of a bench, water trough, hitching posts, display crates or something like that? And the narration is wonderful, very genuine and personable.

@Lauras-tinyview 6 месяцев назад
Thank you! 🤗 Also thanks for the great ideas for dark wood. I don’t really have room for the trough or hitching post I hope to make those as individual props in the street but your right, that dark wood would be perfect for that. I may try to squeeze in some display crates and a bench up on the porch. Thanks for watching!

Again, such beautiful work. I really liked that you left the back door open just a bit and the door knob looks so real and the signs fit the store perfectly. I am going to have to try your wood graining of the cardstock first and then cutting it out for some of the benches I am building in HO scale for my husband's railroad layout. Making them out of match sticks is so challenging and I end up making two to three to keep one. 🤭 Thank you for the tip!
@Lauras-tinyview
@Lauras-tinyview 6 месяцев назад
I’m so glad you found the wood graining helpful. I used to do it afterwards but it seems easier to do it before. Just be careful not to cut all the way through. I did that a few times, especially with a new blade. HO scale is pretty tiny right? That’s so cool you build things for him. I bet it’s a lot of fun!

I would be glad to share the measurements with you. I’ll reply back with the measurements tomorrow. @melbajohnson9455 Here are the measurements for the general store. The main room is 10 x 8 1/2 in. The widest part is the front. The little room off the back is 6 x 5 1/2 in. The shortest is facing the front of the store. The front porch is 3 1/2 in deep. The back porch is 3 in deep. The walls in the main room are 7 in. Hope that’s helpful.

Nice work 😊 but the shutters look too wide or too thick for the windows, maybe if you used something else than the foam board, the window frame is very thin compared to the shutters 😅 sorry no intention of putting your lovely work down it’s just that the sizes didn’t look right together 😅 oh that big sign is my favorite 😍 just love it.

@Lauras-tinyview 6 месяцев назад
I would love to but at the moment I don’t know how to record my screen while in my silhouette studio. If I can’t figure it out soon I will have my grandson😂 teach me when he comes to visit in June. Does scan and cut have a studio? I’m basically looking at real vintage signs and changing the words up and getting ideas for placement of words and graphics. Then I size it to what I need and print. I wish I had photoshop again but it’s so pricey. I have been experimenting with creating labels on the website Canva. Then I download and import into the studio to size and print them. Hope that helps you out until I my grandson teaches me. Have a great week!
