I Can't Believe How Kind Tanzanian Villages Are! (#38)

There's a mountain that you may have heard of called Mt. Kilimanjaro. Most people just get in a private car, ride to the gate, spend around $1000 and then hike the mountain for the next 10 days. I had different plans, especially since I didn't have $1000. It was a hike in of itself just walking through the villages to the gate, so I decided to spend the day on that. Along the way I was shocked by the kindness and curiosity of the Chagga villagers I met. Great people to have some banana beer with.
If you're planning to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, look up David when you arrive at Marangu Gate. He can escort and if nothing else just give you a short walking tour!

Hiking is good for the soul. So is mbege. And maybe gongo too. The Maasai village is up next. At least we're not going to Karakalpakstan or Africa's worst airport.
------
Suggestions are always welcome.
I'll try to get to every comment. Even the ones where you insult me, those are fun too.

I shall miss the Chagga people, and their banana beer. Aika mai If you're ever planning to go to the Marangu Gate of Mt. Kilimanjaro, look for David when you get there. Nice guy, and he'll tour you around the area. The pandemic has really hurt tourism to the area, so he could use the help.

You are the true definition of “Mzungu” It comes from the word “Kuzunguka” which means to go around (direct translation) or simply to wander around. That’s where the word Mzungu came from - Someone who wanders into other territories, an explorer. Historically the word was commonly used for people of European decent but it simply means an explorer, not a foreigner as it is widely regarded. I love your videos. Great content. 👏🔥✅

I absolutely love how those villagers keep their property up. It doesn't take money to pick up garbage and trim your bushes. Even the foot paths to their home's are kept manicured. They eventually take pride in their property as they should. I would love to visit Uganda, walk that same road with the same guide, and meet those same people. Thank you Tommy for showing me this paradise.

another great video. as you notice, most of the houses are empty except old people young people prefer dar or city for more job opportunities. 29:57 goats are always tethered/keep in huts / the woman at 30:33 has to cut grass to feed the livestock...zero grazing (due to lack of land space & availability of grass year round). 31:12 avocados are not popluar considered poor man's butter... they are left on the ground to rot. 10:07 coffee is grown there but the locals prefer tea... 00:59 kncu kilimanjaro native cooperative union created in 1930s , mainly bought coffee from the farmers but has declined.. kilimanjaro nice !!!!

This is the most relaxing 30 minutes i've ever had this week. I'm from Indonesia and this reminds me a lot of home, it's quiet, hot, but damp, and bananas everywhere. But the people in the villages are so nice and funny, everybody wants you inside their home, drinking tea and chat. But looking at Tom's video and per my experience, i can't imagine the mosquitos and other insects everywhere... Mosquitos are the bane of my existence.

I don't think you would experience loneliness like we do here I know in Africa it's weird to be a 30 something year old man or woman and not be married that's what's Happening here. I really enjoyed how everybody just started joining you for the walk it's like just in case you were walking alone hopefully you get some good people walking with you case anything bad happens & it's some company along the way.

New subscriber to your channel Love the videos may your travels be fulfilling and pleasurable. I laughed when you said migration to the states on train has been about 10 years and political. People have been migrating long before that train. ✌😎

I love this video. It's so..chilled. As is the sabbatical man himself, and his cool guide. And I love the people you meet along the way. Seriously, this is such a feel good half hour that I'll watch it again. When I need to de-stress. This is a million miles away from other extreme travel videos where the guys are almost looking to get scammed so they can post a clickbaity video. Like the shallow skull-faced Dale Philip or narcissist humble-bragging Kurt Catz. Sabbatical is on another level. I would have liked to see how much David asked for, and how much you gave him.I hope he got a nice tip.
