I'm very glad to see a ton of windows 7 options (I think that was the peak of their UI design), the fact that everything on windows 11 seems to just be a convoluted method of opening those windows has been a big pain in the butt. I used the discount code to activate my windows, by the way! Had no idea you could get the single use OEM keys for cheap.

I still think StartAllBack is the way to go. It does these and much more, including theming old modals and panels with a modern dark mode and better animations. Yes it's paid, but it's one time fee. Also ExplorerPatcher requires constant updates due to its nature and broke on me several times.

Startisback* is indeed a payed software and easy to use... same as openshell (which was ClassicShell before) and both were payed too and both exist since windows 8... OpenShell is the ClassicShell and opensource version (i think) Startisback is not... Both do the job well i think and i still think OpenShell is pretty good ... Im using Startisback just for the lolz to see how it is... the free version which has a smily face... but anyay since 3 months now and its okay ... But probably ExplorerPatcher is even better to be honest! i don't know ... seemed so

The thing that I seriously hate about using Explorerpatcher is that sometimes you get hit with a really bad update and your entire screen is black and explorer.exe never shows up. So frustrating to deal with. Gotta uninstall EP or the update and just troubleshooting it was a pain in general. I'm just gonna stick with auto hiding my taskbar. That was basically my problem so far with W11 since I couldn't have small taskbar.
@teksyndicate
@teksyndicate 5 месяцев назад
I cover that at the end of the video. I have it on 5 PCs and it's happened once. It's a very quick fix. Just press ctrl shift esc to bring up the task manager. Run new task. Type "explorer" ... that's it! If that doesn't work, do the same thing but type "control" into the run new task field. That opens control panel where you can uninstall ExplorerPatcher, then start explorer... then go download and update ExplorerPatcher.

I was seriously thinking about using something like this since I just built a new PC using a 14 gen CPU. I would have stayed on win 10 but that damn scheduler forced my hand. Now like you said and it's something I thought about, if there's a win update and it breaks something I really don't want to spend the time fixing things. I'm a set it and forget it kind of ass hat. As I was setting up win 11 I really didn't get lost. Yeah, it's a different way of going about things and typing all the crap out to find what you're looking for is annoying but once I learn it, I think I'll be ok. But after watching these tutorials it is tempting to revert back to the better times lol.

This looks pretty cool, I might end up giving it a try. I ran into this scenario a few weeks ago where I had finally gotten used to daily driving Linux, so switching back to Windows was odd. I used to consider the Windows File Explorer to be really good, but now having tried others, I take back that statement. I ended up finding out that KDE Dolphin is available for Windows, so I just installed that and use it instead since that is my new preferred file explorer.

@psiah9889
@psiah9889 5 месяцев назад
@@mopeyblokeMint is great for beginners, but it's running some older stuff for the sake of ease of use and stability. It's usually not a problem, unless you wanna do stuff like use two monitors with different refresh rates or use g-sync / freesync. If Mint handled all of that well it'd be an unambiguous recommendation, but it looks like it will take until 2025 at the earliest for it to get there. If you're a bit of a power user who's not afraid of the command line and are willing to read instructions and / or talk to people to get help, you might consider Nobara Linux instead. Comes with a lot of patches to make gaming and peripherals work well right off the bat, and is run by effectively *the* guy who's at the forefront of making games run well on Linux.

Curious how this would be beneficial on 2016 Server/Core. I'm one of those guys that stuck to 2003/2008/2012/2016 until Win10 because I didn't want Vista, didn't like nor could navigate 7, needed to avoid the consumer bloat of 8/8.1 and am kind of okay with 10 now that it's a bit more stable. I'm not a fan of Win11 and will probably need this if I hop to 2022 since it's probably going to be the only tool that addresses the nasty Explorer memory leaks.

I actually preferred the Windows Vista file Explorer to Windows 7's. The bottom preview pane and original introduction of Libraries was honestly really good on Vista. Windows 7 backpedaled on libraries a bit, (they're still usable even on 11, but you need to enable and configure it), and 7 moved some stuff around from Vista. While 7's taskbar was better than Vista, Vista's explorer was just fantastic. If only these guys could implement some "Windows 6" features. ;x

I just upgraded to Windows 11. For the most part the GUI doesn't bother me. However, one of the few things I really missed from Windows 10 was the ribbon in File Explorer, so I was ecstatic to get that back. ...but, bringing that back made me lose the tab option in File Explorer. In Windows 10, I had downloaded a feature called QTTabBar. I assumed I would need it in Windows 11, but I found that the tab feature was baked in, so I uninstalled it since it wasn't necessary. Activating the Windows 10 Ribbon seems to revert to some version of File Explorer in Windows 10 that doesn't allow the tabs in File Explorer. After installing QTTabBar, I notice no change and no option to open multiple tabs in File Explorer vs having to open multiple folders as individual folders. Is there another setting I can change within this Explorer Patcher to give me the best of both worlds, multiple tabs within File Explorer and the Windows 10 ribbon, or is there something within Windows settings I can change?

Thank you so much for doing this video and the links you shared. Made my life better. Now if I can get the updates to stop. I only use windows 10 for my video editor and few games. The rest of the time I am in Linux or BSD.

does this fix the idiotic thing in windows explorer when you select a file with 6 letters the selection grey bubble (lets call it that way) is not as large as the file with longest name (e.g. 12 letters aka longer file name)?

I have (almost) no issues with windows 11, got used to it after using it for a while. But having options is a good thing, this is neat.

please release a review of all popular programs that help change Windows 11 and compare them (Sophia-Script-for-Windows/SophiApp; hellzerg optimizer etc).And not only visually changing the appearance but also programs that effectively disable spying telemetry, as effective as a firewall. And what to do if a very smart Windows Defender is so smart that it deletes files that are saved

Explorer Patcher is working on my Mini PC by BeeLink with Windows 11 Pro. Downloaded the latest version today. Thank you. I'm trying to find the video that addresses your remark about showing us a working replacement for the productivity area with OPEN SHELL. Did you make that Video Yet?

I installed ExplorerPatcher as recommended and now there's a weird glitch. Command prompt opens itself on startup and won't go away. When I close it manually, another one opens up. This seems wrong. What is going on? How can I stop it?

Love this software, but I don't use it anymore, often when Windows Updates has been installed the software will make Explorer.exe to keep on crashing on you and other weird bugs, and the only way to fix it, from what I have found, is to rename the setup file to ep_uninstall.exe and then you have to wait for an updated version of ExplorerPatcher and reinstall that. Too much hassle when it fails.

I'd like to see some XP UI options available on Win 10 or 11. I preferred XP's task bar shortcuts and XP's custom sound themes namely the Start Window and Exit Windows custom sounds.

One of the good recommended videos I've got. Windows has been killing me and now I find it to be much more usable. I personally prefer Linux, but not a single goddamn software that I use professionally is available or properly supported on Linux lol. Anyways thanks man!

Is there any way or software to make folder previews like in Windows 10? So that you can really see what's inside.

I used to be a windows user for decades, but switched to MacOS a year ago. I was that guy customizing his desktop with rainmeter, customizing windows with PowerToys, that guy in insider program while I had no interest into that, just to experiment things quicker. I'm happier on MacOS, I feel really productive and less focused on making things more practical. I don't spend time anymore on customizing my computer, I miss that a lot but I'm really more productive. I don't have access to the majority of the games available on windows, but everything is smooth, snappy and stable. I'm really happy to see what Windows becomes since Windows 11, even though I'm not on the boat anymore. I'm a developer, I wish I could dualboot windows on my mac, Windows never felt that "MacOS-ish" than right now.

You never metioned the best missing feature from Windows 10 - the custom Toolbars option when you right-click the taskbar. On Windows 10, I use it for 99% of my work. It is rare that I use the start menu. Unfortunately, the Toolbars feature does not allow shortcuts for UWP apps.

Its weirdness with the command centre; Leftclick opens the flyout menu Rightclick brings up another menu for each individual taskbar icon. Then you left click again to get an individual flyout. So many thing's wrong with that design choice forced on desktop. Could just detect a mouse and have it default to the individual flyout menus. Microsoft: "that's a hard no".
