Ah, you’ve already answered my first question when someone says this: which God? I have done something similar, creating, after years of being agnostic, an hypothesis about existence. As long as it’s plausible enough to me, and appealing enough to me, it serves as my “working hypothesis” until something better comes along. And the point of it all is simply to make me feel better, which is a reasonable goal. I still don’t think you can decide to believe, nor do I think there is justification for believing, but an hypothesis does the trick for me. As for views on other people and organized religion, I suspect they have the same motivation, but I still feel free to think, for example, that the Christian religion is neither plausible nor appealing, but that’s just me. How anyone can find a psychopathic being that claims to love everyone, but consigns people to eternal torment just for honestly not believing is beyond me. And an afterlife of “singing the praises of God” while your friends and relatives are being tortured? Both fates seem ghastly. Each to his or her own, I guess. I’m collecting notes for a modest book on the subject, assuming fate does not intervene and snuff out my candle in the meantime. Welcome back, I was beginning to wonder how you were doing.

Thanks. You've summarized my experience. It is a working hypothesis and nothing more. As long as it is reasonable for me and make me feel good, then it does the trick. I just added "deciding to believe" for a dramatic flair. But you got the idea.

*Some clarification:* This is not some "man in the sky" scenario. Although I am learning to not judge people who believe that. This is me rationally trying to confront my mortality, a hypothesis about existence, if you will. Also, no, I am not just letting my fear consume me. It's not a belief that came about through any divine experience. It's me *deciding* to believe to see if it provides me the comfort I need. It's not like I saw God in dreams or anything mysterious like that. I am not joining any organized religion. It's just me coming to terms with my mortality and lack of control. I am willing to try anything that has the potential to give me peace. If it doesn't, I'm open to change. No conspiracy. I promise. In fact, I am going to "create" my own God, by imagining a being, and giving it qualities that I'd like to see in my God. I want to see if this process brings me comfort. It's a thought exercise and a wilful delusion. If it doesn't give me the comfort I seek, I will ditch the idea. I should have explained this better in the video. But I am figuring it out as I go along. That much is clear. PS. I had to address this due to some comments and some DMs, and I am realizing a lot more would come my way. Also, I got some DMs telling me what I caught was not COVID. The symptoms I had were incredibly weird. Complete lack of smell and taste. A feeling of terrible hangover, but stretched for days. high fever, and incredible fatigue. At one point, I had to lie down because I brushed my teeth, and it lasted for a good month. It's unlike anything I've experienced. It's not just about the possibility of a false PCR test. Stay safe.

The entire Universe is built on the constants e and π: many of the fundamental laws of physics and other sciences rely over and over again on these two mathematical constants. π is encoded in Genesis 1:1, the first verse of the Bible/Torah and of the Old Testament written in Hebrew. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth (Genesis 1:1) בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית בָּרָ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים אֵ֥ת הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם וְאֵ֥ת הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (Genesis 1:1) From the Hebrew numerals system introduced in the 2nd century BCE, And formula (NUMLETT*PROLETT/NUMWORD*PROWORD) = (28 * 23887872 x 10^27) / (7 * 304153525784175760) = 3.1415...X10^17. it matches the actual value of π until the 3.1415. π is the number of the circle, of completion, of what is closed and self-contained; as such, it's a good mathematical reference to the concept of a God Creator of all things, and of a Creation that includes everything that was created by God; (John 1:3) This was encoded in the bible with a level of precision that was 2000 years ahead of Chinese mathematician Zu Chongzhi which first got π close to about seven digits around the 5th century AD, surpassing his compatriot who got it close to three digits earlier in the 2nd century AD. e is encoded in John 1:1, the first verse of the gospel (John) of the New Testament written in Greek. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.(John 1:1) ἐν ἀρχηι ἦν ὁ λόγος, καὶ ὁ λόγος ἦν πρὸς τὸν θεόν, καὶ θεὸς ἦν ὁ λόγος (John 1:1) From the Greek numerals system introduced in the 5th century BCE, And formula (NUMLETT*PROLETT/NUMWORD*PROWORD) = (52 * 843625145625911083008 x 10^55)/ (17 * 94930224139983918429785786976 x 10^7) = 2.7183...X10^40. it matches the actual value of e until the 2.7183 e is the number of the relationship between the big and the small, of the bridge between the infinitesimal and the infinite; what number could be better associated with the Son, the One who was Sent by the Father, the One who is the only bridge for mankind to the infinite God who created the universe. (John 14:6) The Son who is the living word of God which was made flesh (John 1:14) The Euler's number was encoded some 1500 years before the human kind first discovered its existence and importance in 1683 by Jacob Bernoulli. The fine structure constant (α) value can be also derived from the above two key verses above by combining the verse gematria values of Genesis 1:1 with John 1:1 and calculating it's base value. The fine structure constant (α) value is considered the greatest mysteries of physics. Without it, it would be impossible to form even simple structures like atoms, molecules, planets, or stars. Verse gematria = Sum of all letter values. (Genesis 1:1 = 2701 & John 1:1 = 3627) you would get the fine structure constant (α) derived as 27013627^2 =0.00729736..e17. Given that the current α approx value recommended is currently 0.00729735. In fact, it is only in 1916 that this magic number was first introduced by Arnold Sommerfeld. Furthermore, there is a pattern in the verse Gematria of Genesis 1:1 to John 1:1 = 2701-3627 = |27|01-36|27|; There are exactly a total of 27 books in the New Testaments which are the Word of God (Jesus Christ the Son). John 1:14 states that Jesus Christ is the Word of God which was made flesh and the only begotten of the father. Revelation 1:8 states that Jesus Christ is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending. Revelation 13:18 states that the number of the antichrist who will deceive the world in the end days is 666. And, the sum of integers from the beginning of 1 to 36 is exactly 666. Hence, (27) (01-36) (27) = (Jesus-the Alpha) -> (From the beginning to the end of the anti-christ 666) -> (Jesus-the Omega). In addition, The Golden Ratio (φ) is encoded in Hebrew 8:5 where God spoke to Moses and reveal to him the pattern in which all things are made in accordance to. Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount. (Hebrew 8:5) οἵτινες ὑποδείγματι καὶ σκιᾷ λατρεύουσιν τῶν ἐπουρανίων, καθὼς κεχρημάτισται μωϊσῆς μέλλων ἐπιτελεῖν τὴν σκηνήν, ὅρα γάρ, φησίν, ποιήσεις πάντα κατὰ τὸν τύπον τὸν δειχθέντα σοι ἐν τῶ ὄρει· (Hebrew 8:5) From the Greek numerals system introduced in the 5th century BCE, And formula above (NUMLETT*PROLETT/NUMWORD*PROWORD) = 1.6180...X10^161. it matches the actual value of φ until the 1.6180. The golden ratio (φ) is a pattern which is sometimes called the "divine proportion," because of its frequency in the natural world. For centuries, the golden ratio has fascinated all kinds of people, not just mathematicians. Physicists and biologists have studied it, architects and artists have used it, and worshippers have described it as a divine design. And through the centuries, the golden ratio has continued to amaze its diverse fans, frequently cropping up at unexpected places. Other religions follow books of teachings written by one person. The Bible consists of 66 books written by 40 or more authors over the course of more than 1500 years (from 1500 BC to approx. 90 AD) in three different languages (Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek). The Bible is the only book in the world ever written like this. In spite of this, the message throughout the Bible is the same. It is the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. Christianity is not about joining a church or a religious organization. It is not about following religious rules and ceremonies and man-made rituals. It is not about religion. Christianity is about having a personal relationship with God Himself, made possible because of Jesus Christ and what happened at the cross. The unexamined life is not worth living. We "believe " in things that have insufficient support to be "known". Delusion may be pleasant, but by definition it's not true.

I think that's great as long as you can separate experiential belief from intellectual knowledge. One should feel that god exists if that brings them joy but one should never confuse that with knowledge. One should let god stay in the plane of subjectivity but not slip out of there. That's how unjustified belief becomes corrupt, via making us forget it's a brighter more colorful paint with which to paint our experience and polluting our minds into thinking it's a law-table on what to paint and how. Poorly done belief enslaves ourselves and kills our capacity for art.

Something relevant Nietzsche wrote: 'For us, the falsity of a judgment is still no objection to that judgment - that’s where our new way of speaking sounds perhaps most strange. The question is the extent to which it makes demands on life, sustains life, maintains the species, perhaps even creates species. And as a matter of principle we are ready to assert that the falsest judgments (to which a priori synthetic judgments belong) are the most indispensable to us, that without our allowing logical fictions to count, without a way of measuring reality against the purely invented world of the unconditional and self-identical, without a constant falsification of the world through numbers, human beings could not live - that if we managed to give up false judgments, it would amount to a renunciation of life, a denial of life. To concede the fictional nature of the conditions of life means, of course, taking a dangerous stand against the customary feelings about value. A philosophy which dares to do that is for this reason alone already standing beyond good and evil.'

Yes. I fully agree with you. I think this video was misunderstood. My fault of course for not explaining this properly. This is a philosophical exercise and nothing more. In a way I want to conjure up my own God and give it qualities. This "belief" will never become a dogma, and that's where the problem lies with most belief.

Personally, I think your therapist's reasoning sounds like Pascal's wager but if believing in God makes you a better person who am I to judge?
@NorthernDiaries
@NorthernDiaries 2 года назад
I guess it is a bit of a Pascal's Wager. It's not about making me a better person. When something is unknown, you can either jump into the unknown and accept that it's the unknown. In that case there are infinite possibilities of what that unknown is. You will not have that knowledge ever. So another option would be, to think about, what would you want the unknown to be? In a way consciously tricking your brain into believing in something, it doesn't need to be a traditional God, it can be anything, as long as that belief or that thought gives you comfort. Ultimately that's what matters right? How peaceful you are until your death. In this case, I feel it doesn't matter what the truth is, because it's unknowable. You might as well make yourself comfortable. At least that's the way I see it.

Well. I don't know. Because it's not a belief that came about through an experience. It's me deciding to believe to see if it provides me the comfort I need. If it doesnt, I'm open to change. There is evidence that demands a verdict that God came to earth .John 3:16. You do not create this reality in your mind. Creation points to a creator. I am an artist, my paintings did not just happen! I painted them. So it is with creation. There must be a Creator.

I think this video was misunderstood or most probably, I didn't explain it properly. It's a philosophical exercise and nothing more. About self hate, yes I do have it. But not to the extent I used to have. Therapy is helping. In a way, this is the first time I feel not that confused and in touch with my inner self. I used to show myself on videos. Not anymore because it is simply too hot where I am. I need to turn the fan and the AC off to record good sound. But then it's a sweat party. So I decided to do just audio until summer.
