Elise ! There is no difference at all between "saint" and "sein" in the pronounciation ! Do not worry ! I'm French and to be honest I always understood the title of your channel despite the slight struggle - and was actually quite happy that you had a French channel name, it was original and now that you said the reason I just find it really wholesome. I didn't mind the pronounciation, it does not matter, the least is to try and you did and it was great. I am glad you have found a new name that suits you better, but please don't be self-conscious about trying to learn/speak another language, because it's an amazing thing to do !

As a Korean language student I can tell you that us Americans definitely have difficulty hearing subtle differences in sounds that some other languages have. I’m not able to hear the difference between those French words either. I like the new name and I think the story behind it and all the fun coincidences that happened is great and makes it even more special.
@darlingdarcysbjd, there's actually a physical reason for Americans having difficult hearing subtle differences in language sounds: it has to do with the pitch range (inflection) in American English. The range is much wider than with some other languages such as French. In French, the pitch inflections are primarily very close to each other, and the ears and brains of native French speakers are trained early on to hear these subtle differences. With American English, the wider range means fewer subtleties in pitch variations, which then means our ears and brains are not trained to pick up subtleties, but more "broad brush strokes." I myself tried to learn French as an adult when I moved to Montreal, and it was extremely difficult for me, despite I have a degree in music and my ear is trained to pick up tiny subtleties in pitch. This subtlety vs "broad stroke" inflections are not limited to American English and French, obviously -- as you say, Korean apparently has subtleties difficult for us "broad stroke" folks to hear. 🙂 I learned about this pitch-range facet to learning languages a number of years ago when I first started trying to learn French, and I've never forgotten it. At least I know I'm not just "dumb" for not hearing tiny inflections!

Great, I think changing the name was a good idea. I lived many years in France, with lots of Americans around me and the old name definitely was hard for Americans to pronounce 😊 But I understand it wasn't easy to change after you got the 100K play button on the old name. For that reason, it took me about 6 months to dare to change the name of my channel, which used to be Crochet and Knitting with Tuula Maaria, so it was just dropping the word 'knitting' because I have so little of that on the channel.

I love the new channel name. Makes much more sense. And since my daughter's name is similar to yours (Emily Rose) Elise Rose will be very easy for me to remember. LOL!! I am also a soapmaker and had a soap biz for almost 10 years and one thing I found out was that if you have to explain your business name, you need another name. I used an old English spelling of a word in my name and forever had to explain why it was spelled that way. I thought people would get it , but they didn't. Lesson learned. I have a soap business name I would just love to use if I would re-open, but there is a French word in it and I know I would butcher it, so while I love the name and it is beautiful and perfect for a soap business, I will never use it because you should be able to pronounce the name of your own business. If I was French and living in US, it might make sense to use it, but being an American and using a French word that I struggle to pronounce, makes no sense to me. Now that you have made this decision, it is onward and upward for you.
Hi Elise, so I am 20years old and I have a lifelong dream about having a fulltime amigurumi crochet buisness. I am an amigurumi designer and have being crocheting for 10 years now (Literally half of my life). I plan on having patterns and a website and videos, anything that can help me share my love of crochet with many people as possible. Ever since I saw your channel (2 years ago I think) you have been a great inspiration to me, and even though life has put many obstacles these few years on starting my dream (I am currently battleing severe depression...) your videos have always helped me so much in giving me advice and motivation. And now that I see this video, now that you mention Santa Teresita de Lisieux or also called Santa Teresita del niño Jesús (I know her in spanish since I am mexican) which has also always been a loving guidance and motivation to me about giving love even in the smallest actions. This couldnt be a much greater sign that I am on the right path and that I will someday achieve this dream. So in the future if I do indeed place my grain of salt into the crochet community, and you happen to see the name "Naturalume" (which I plan to name my crochet buisness) pop up anywhere. Your brain works like my brain and I would have gone through the exact same process. I'm actually trying to choose a name for a new kitty we are getting and I LOVE old French names, but I also struggle with the correct pronunciation. I even lived in France for a few years and my son was born there, lol. We went through something interesting when naming my son because I loved all the French names, but I knew noone in America would pronounce them the same way my son's French family would pronounce it. And, speaking of French names, can we just have a moment to mourn the beautiful name "Ghislaine" that can't be used for a generation now. What a beautiful name.

Sein and saint are total homophones, it's not just you, it's a type of play-on words that would go over anyone's head who hasn't lived with the language their entire life (and whose mind are not twisted tbh ^^'). Don't give up on learning french, as hard as it is (and as ruthless as french speakers will be when pointing and nitpicking any little mistake) it'll be totally worth it when you'll look back at old videos of yourself and you'll realize how much you've learned. Knowing several languages is an amazing tool and a gift I wish anyone could benefit from ❤

Hi just to explain the difference between breast blood and saint in french. for a female we say sainte. so because le is masculine saint too and yes breast in french and saint sound the same thing (i hope this comment is readable I'm from Quebec in Canada and a part of us don't speak English verry well, we speak french)

I agree! I took French for 4 years, spent some weeks in France at 20, and rarely satisfied any Parisian shop keeper. Other French speakers were more accepting, but I gave up my efforts after the age of 21. My mouth just resisted those sounds, while I easily picked up Spanish, German, and a few phrases in most of the dozen other countries I have traveled in. So I completely agree with your reasons! 😅👍🏼
Im learning French and I’m a fluent Spanish speaker and I find it hard to pronounce haha. Spanish does the masculine/feminine so that’s not the problem but oh man, they’re spelling is 😢

You had me confused for a while at the beginning of your video. I know St Thérèse of Lisieux but I always knew her as St. Therese Little Flower. She was my mother's favorite saint. She has her all over her house and talks about how she is the "little flower of Jesus". My middle name is for her. My mom even insisted that she be my saint when I was confirmed. Well 50 yrs has passed since my confirmation and I lost touch with the faith, but when you mentioned Thérèse of Lisieux it got me remembering Little Flower and questioning if that was the same saint. You confirmed it at the end. My mother would be so disappointed. Not my proudest moment 🤦♀ Good luck with the new name. You have a great channel 🌹
As a French native, I know the pronunciation can be difficult and also French people are stucked up the way French words are said. French isn't easy even for the French. I think that your American accent gives it a charm. I've been in the US for the past 25 years and still have a strong accent and often I killed the English words. What matters is that you did your best and wanted to honor Therese de Lisieux.
Elise, I truly enjoy watching your videos. I have in the past have heard you mentioned your home is in North Carolina. I am a resident here also. I started watching your RU-vid videos when I was going thru a summer of illness in 2021and the lost of my Dad. Crochet has helped me thru this difficult time in my life. Love your name change! Much easier on you and us. I love your channel, Elise! I've just started doing amigurumi and finished my first one, a somewhat lopped sided fried egg. It's not perfect and not good enough to sell but I'm still proud of it like you are with your first little bunny. I wish I had found you sooner. I've been crocheting with cotton 5 to 8 hours a day for at least 5 months getting ready for a craft show and man, my hands are letting me know it. When I tried to do the fried egg for a second time my hands refused to work! They hurt and go numb on me so I've been resting them for a week and putting salve on them. Guess I better lay off the cotton for awhile. I love using it and I especially love Lion Brands 24/7 cotton. Beautiful colors and the stitch definition it does is fabulous! I'm starting my amigurumi with 100% acrylic so that should be better for my hands. Keep up the goodwork and my condolences on the loss of your little dog.
