I replaced my original 19" Gemini Wheel Covers (Aero Caps) of my Tesla Model Y with hub caps I ordered from Aliexpress. In my review I want to share my experience with them.

📦 Update on Shipping:
The center wheel caps with Tesla logo are now shipped separately. Contact the seller after purchase and they'll do so.
The price is shown lower with higher shipping costs to make use of an EU tax rule. If the price without shipping is lower than 150 EUR the tax is collected by Aliexpress. Otherwise it would be collected by the delivery company and they usually add a handling fee.
❇️ Update on Range Loss:
I've been driving with the new wheel covers for some weeks and miles. I didn't notice any range loss so far. I tried to measure the efficiency but didn't get a fair result. The influence on range by other factors (traffic, temperature, wind,...) seems to be bigger than the influence from the wheel caps.
With the release of software update 2022.36.2 and the new energy app - I'm currently doing a new comparison test!

I bought these hub caps as well. Definitely a big improvement over the gemini ones in terms of look. One issue with the design I noticed. The height around the rim is higher than the gemini ones and when it rains water will be collected and assemble underneath, behind the caps. As a result when driving especially on highways at higher speed you can hear an extra noise which is the water stuck underneath spinning around with the wheel. Similar to a washing machine. As a result i've taken them off again, I cannot stand the added noise.

Thanks for your feedback, I'll pay attention during my next rides, I didn't notice a noise after changing the hub caps - but I recently got another set with a different design and will pay attention to that topic. I heard that the gap is different depending on the tires used and how they overlap the rims.

I saw these wheel covers about 1.5 months ago. Really appreciate you sharing your video of the process of installing then testing them out. It was good to finally see them from all angles. I’d say these are the most refined designs available but I am still keen to see more sophisticated ones come out for the Model Y 19” wheels.

According to my experience this costs you plastic dip and a lot of time. When you sell your original ones and get 3rd party covers it’s cheaper and you have no work

They look awesome! Do they come in a left and right version, or do the ones on the right side 'spin' the wrong way? I wonder if these will have a hit on efficiency. The induction ones do have a hit on efficiency, compared to the gemini caps.

These appear to cover the inside margin of silver as well - which I like, however the company doesnt offer Right / Left versions and takes 20-30 days to ship to California. Any recommendations for a full coverage cover, with Right/Left option for the 2024 Y?

Great video! I learned that the Original Tesla Gemini wheel covers damage the rim after a few kilometres driven (a combination of street dust, vibration and metall clips results in black deep non removable scratches). I see that the black wheel covers in the video also have metal clips. Do you have made any observation on damages, too?

Hi. Great video. The covers in the video have an actual hole for the valve to poke through. All the ones I can find online have a notch for the value rather than a hole. Do you know where I can buy the ones with the hole (rather than the open notch)? Thanks a lot!

Great video, thank you! I had Uberturbine covers from greendriveaccessories (I assume they are from Yikun). They were very stiff and actually very hard to remove. 2 of them already broke although I am not aware of hitting a curbstone. Can you compare the Gemini original versus the ones you have?

Hi, you mean removing the caps? I took them off several times for the video, changing summer/winter tires,... Haven't had an issue with original ones nor my repacement covers

The ones I got is a set of 4 of the same (so are the originals btw) but you hardly notice it. In the meantime they introduced more designs linktr.ee/teslawheelcovers and some of them come with hubcaps for left and right side e.g. these ones: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DdhoS9z

Taking them off is pretty easy, gently pull on them next to the spot where the lock is. I took them off several times. When I'll do a video about efficiency I'll show how to take them off

Have they designed these so 2 of these wheel covers are for the right hand side and 2 for the left hand? I saw some other wheel covers that look like they are rotating backwards as they have been designed without any thought. Hope this question made sense?

For the ones I described as Uberturbine Design there is just one version. Same situation as for the original Gemini Design, there is also no left and right. As for the design I described as Induction, there are 2 left and 2 right covers.

In your video you made it sound like you've bought them fairly cheap? Like $50 or something? How much was the whole set and in which country? I am in AU and ordering it from here is going to cost me close to $300!

Hi, thanks for your feedback. It's like 50 per wheel cover (similar to the original Tesla ones). Not sure how much shipping via Aliexpress is - in general they have higher shipping fees and lower sales prices for tax and customs reasons. Yes, there are very fine scratches, next to the clips. But I didn't notice any difference compared to the original hubcaps.

Yes, no problem at all, since they are befind the original rims, so not affected by the hub caps. They would look great with the hub cap design I got, already thought about it

A lot of sellers that ship from China have removed to logo so there are no problems with customs. I ordered with this seller and asked him to ship logo caps, which he did for free in a separate package s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DdhoS9z You can also get them separately and exchange them.

Well, if the tires are clean, they are about the same color as the tires. Maybe you need to clean the tires with a tire cleaner spray more often to keep them the same color. Which color is your car?

Saw that too, but he has different caps than I do. I didn’t notice a significant range loss and think that driving style, weather, temperature,… had a bigger impact than the caps. I still thinking of an ideal driving scenario under the same conditions without too much traffic influence and how long I need to drive to measure.

I bought some matte black Gemini wheel covers, but the plastic was a lot harder than the original ones, they looked great and covered the rim, but they also broke really easily when curbing them or trying to pull the off - since you have tested a few covers, do you know if there are any made with the same material as the original ones?

Hi, the ones from this video do have quite some scratches by now when I hit the curbs, but I took this as a good sign since they protected the rims which are not scratched. There are many models available by now, I guess it’s hard to differ them since there is no brand. At least the ones I got from the same seller have a quality I’m satisfied with. I think the clips are important as there are models where they break easily.

@@elProducente I ordered the Rimetrix Medusa from the US, very expensive, but apparently those are the real deal, made from a better material and have no clips that easily break - I’ll let you know how they are if you’re interested!

I think if you take off the original wheel caps, you will have better energy efficiency further. Less weight means less revolving inertia.

@@kchello6533 Tesla states otherwise, wheel caps increase efficiency. I also think that the better aerodynamics gain efficiency with a bigger impact that the loss due to weight; the wheel caps are pretty light.

Just want to know the physics of putting a wheelcaps but gaining efficiency. My experience is that lighter wheels will have smaller revolving inertia which is the key factor to energy efficiency
