After the shocking loss of Tenjen Lama Sherpa in an avalanche on Shishapangma on October 7, 2023 we bring you Kristin Harlia speaking about their friendship - recorded a week before Lama's passing.
Devastating avalanches on Shishapangma in China resulted in the loss of four lives, including that of world renowned guide Tenjen Lama Sherpa, who accompanied Norwegian Kristin Harila on her historic world record feat to summit all 14 8000 meter peaks in 92 days, an accomplishment she says would not have been possible without Lama.
Also lost in the accident were two American women reported to have been in fierce competition to become the first American women to complete the 14 8000ers. Gina Marie Rzucidlo was with Lama when they perished, and Anna Gutu and her supporting guide Migmar Sherpa were the other casualties.

Dont forget they climbed 12 or 13 of those same peaks less than a year before this happened.. dude was really one of a kind . Genetically built for mountaineering. You really have to respect his strength and ambition

It's very sad for me. Every time I know and see the deaths of climbers and Sherpas it gives me sleepless nights. An avalanche makes the chances of survival very difficult. May they and you rest in peace forever. Love you Sherpas.❤😢

These "records " and the accompanying bragging rights amaze me because the majority of them need Sherpa. The Sherpa have NEVER needed them. She admits, to her credit, she never could have done it without Lama Sherpa. He on the other hand, could do it without her. Tragic loss for all involved.

Soon enough they will be fighting each other with sticks ... You know like prehistoric women . If you don't understand the depth of that , don't stress yourself . Record breaking takes dedication . That's all . ❤ This woman should be taken on the crew to the moon

@paxundpeace9970 You really believe Tenjen Lama Sherpa could not accomplish this without Kristin Harila?... you don't think he could have accomplished this with the other Sherpa who founded Seven Summit Treks? She hired them. They did not hire her. She hired him because he was the best for her to reach her goal. She knew & acknowledged this. Yes, I'm very much aware of her outstanding achievements as a professional climber, but as she said herself. she couldn't have done it without him. You won't hear a Sherpa in his league say he couldn't have done it without "them"

@@EverestMystery T Lama Sherpa was so inspiring to us all yes!🥹🙏🏼 The whole team and all their efforts and excitement about this expedition got my attention about a month or two ago and never did I think they wouldn’t be able to finish it off and that the last Mountain out of the 14, Shishapangma really would be their last for good. I grieve Anna too, because she also was just incredibly inspiring and showed us women that nothing is impossible! Just like Kristin Harila. I have a question I’d like to ask to follow up with the latest news of this horrible tragedy because I’m struggling to find out more information about this online. Is there any way we can have a conversation through email? I’m really interested and intrigued by your channel and I do have so many questions about other things as well! 😇🏔️

Race to achieve goals to be first in competition with other climbers is wrong on my opinion. You race against yourself and in competition against yourself not the mountain or someone else. Kristin was in race to herself. That's whole other game. Against someone else is a way to pump your ego and mind not the soul what climbing mountains is all about.
@tomk3732

I propose a new category of climbing called "Sports Mountaineering" where we place Harila and others. This will be in difference to Messner and Kukuczka etc. whom we place in "Classical mountaineering".
@EverestMystery
@EverestMystery 3 месяца назад
That's a fair suggestion. One thing for certain about Kristin, however, are that her physical capabilities and capacity for suffering, going non-stop without breaking down places her feat in the elite of athletic accomplishments.
@StandedInUtah

Companies marketing "Be the 1st (fill in the blank) to climb X...." Is this false competition driving more risks thus more tragedy? I think so. Climbing has always had a bit of competition regarding which country climbed Everest 1st, who was the 1st woman or the first from a country. In the age of commercial climbing I don't see the point. People stand in line to be up there with 50 other people. It isn't the same. It's a marketing gimmick.

As I understand, he LED her, not "accompanied" her. So, is the record "shared" or does she get the sole credit because he is now dead and her sponsors paid for the trips? I was about to write "expeditions" but I wonder if "flitting" about the Himalaya in helicopters counts as expeditions! She has a publicist? She must be in a member of a very high caste.

Lost all respect for her once I saw the drone video on K2. Yep, God will test you at the "very last" moment you're about to achieve something for yourself. Will you sacrifice your record attempt at the very last minute to do what's right? After working THIS hard for so long, only to give it all up at the finish line to save a dying man? Well, we saw what she did. Her appalling excuses were even worse. I don't regard her at all.
@EverestMystery

I pray you'll take a look at this video before assuming to understand the circumstances up there before condemning someone you don't know. Life at altitude is a completely different beast altogether. Also, with all respect of Kristin's insanely impressive accomplishments, doing a rescue wouldn't have been in her wheelhouse, so to speak. It requires a specific type of technical rope management to extricate a lifeless body from what essentially is a vertical cliff on the most dangerous part of the mountain, in the death zone, no less. Here is the video...at the very least, please watch. I welcome your comments on that video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gyIuZBBBAFk.html

Well, she got out of him, what she needed! Keep playing roulette, with those high altitude peaks, and we see , what happens! I hope she, doesn't ever set foot, on any mountain, ever again!
