The copper wire is called a “single turn nfc antenna” it’s the same tech that your tap enabled credit cards use. The antenna tells the phone that the wallet is connected so it can report to “Find My” the location as well as play the custom animation when attached. The flaky stuff, I have to assume, is probably an RFID blocking feature like many other techy wallets have.
Stripped down to just the antenna do you think it could be mounted on another object and still work? Or is it charged by the phone and needs constant contact for it to keep the gps “find my phone” function?
@@HeinItsEli The wallet just communicates their "ID" via the NFC chip, the actual GPS tracking is done on the phone and send to Apple for their Find My Network. The moment the wallet is detached, the last known location is remembered by the phone and shows up on Find My. But without an iPhone the wallet can't be located.
@@BrandonRBatmanApple offers a 3rd party finds my program as backpack and Ebike/Escooter manufacturers have demonstrated. For your situation just buy an Airtag
This wallet has the ability to help you find it if it ever detaches from your phone. I believe that electronic part with the copper wire around it is what helps the phone detect the detachment. Great video man !
I was considering cutting mine open to see if my lost SD card was somehow stuck in there. Having watched your video, I no longer need to do that. I used the wallet to hold a couple SD cards and lost one of them. I was thinking that little spring thing you showed us was possibly my SD card. It almost felt like there was a square hole in the bottom of the wallet. So I thought I would look it up and it was awesome to find your video. Plus you went above and beyond to make it very professional. Good job and thank you for the video.
I had to buy a new one as my current or at this point old one was falling apart, I got it along side the iPhone 12 Pro in 2020 and buying the new one I can say they have been slowly improving it as the new one has find my and seems to be built better than the 1st gen one
Very Interesting. It is like IKEA furniture, 80$CAN a wallet it is cheaper to buy one than to make one. I am sure that if you buy the individual parts the cost would be similar; but then if you count in your labour, you will be working under Bangladeshi minimum wage. I do woodworking but when my kids want a bookshelf for their dorm the answer was IKEA. You as crafter would buy 1, 10 maybe 100 units, those big companies outsourced hundreds of thousand. Your tear down was very informative.
By the way, the magnets are exactly the same inside the iPhone as well. It is adhered around the wireless charger exactly how you see it on cases and other MagSafe products.
I've had mine for a couple of years now -- and it's mostly been great, and still works great, still holds my cards - but the finish has been shot for months now. Is there any way to recondition something like this?
I was watching marvel videos and idk how i ended up here. But mannnn glad i did! This video was entertaining as hell and learned so much i didn’t even know I wanted to learn about the Apple wallet lol. Anyways awesome video man. You got a new subscriber
6:57 looks like graphite sheeting. If you rub it on paper does it transfer like a graphite pencil? Nice garage renovation by the way---looks like a great space
If you didn't expect to see that spring inside the case to hold the cards I know you didn't bother to watch any of the other videos where these wallets have been opened up.
Hi Justin, great video, I did so many searches and you are the only one took it apart. I just got one over the holiday. Do you think is there a way to cut up an opening on the front side bottom section to push out the cards instead of taking the wallet out of the phone and pushing from the backside opening?
Hi. Thank you for the video. May I know, did they involve pork skin for this product? I am Muslim and cannot use product that use pork and dog skin. Hope you can answer my question. Thank you
I dismantled a fake Hermes phone case and it was so beautiful looking and packaged like original, but when I have taken it out all are garbage, probably used chicken duck skin, cardboard and up leather.
Its not a bad idea I wonder how accessible this kind of magnet is to the average person for purchasing. Might start with some magnetic money clips thats for sure doable.
