I'd Be Tagged Out If........ Late Season Bowhunting | Day 2 & 3
With a major cold front approaching, I head back to the same stand as the first day, hoping to find back the heavy buck from before. With a clean entry, it doesn't take long for the deer to start filing out.
Following the extreme drop in temperature, I head to my new farm for the first time during the late season. Perfect late season weather and the deer being forced to feed early and often results in a great hunt.
Thanks for watching!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. No music in the deer woods. The fact that you don’t use any is dang refreshing. It’s so much easier to pic up your strategies and think about the hunting without that dang music others think they need Thank you sir and continue the good work

Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine ru-vid.comUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older.But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

You've got a lot to look forward to there the next few years. I noticed the electric fence insulators, is that what keeps them from eating all the beans earlier in the year? I was impressed to see that much food available for that many deer.
@jaredmills
@jaredmills Год назад
You are correct. I fenced that plot in (1.5 acres) shortly after planting to let the beans get to maturity. I think I took the fence down sometime in late Sept or early October. It's more about not letting the deer hit them too hard during the initial growing stage. Once they get past that, they can handle the browse pressure just fine, especially since it's not the top food source until later in the season.
@realrussclarke

Jared another great video. I love seeing your videos with no music and just deer being deer I’m curious did you leave the beans standing on purpose to give the deer food for the winter? When do you plan on harvesting the beans?
@jaredmills
@jaredmills Год назад
Hey Russ, thanks for following along. Yes, this 1.5 acre bean field I planted just for a food plot, so that's there to provide food throughout the winter along with some of the other green plots I planted.

@jaredmills
@jaredmills Год назад
Thanks j m. Yes, those yellow pieces were what held the electric wire in place. I fence the beans in during the summer so they'd get past the deer. That plot is only 1.5 acres.

@jaredmills
@jaredmills Год назад
Yeah I'm hoping to find a few of those sheds for sure, would be cool to find that broken side too! It's about impossible to know for sure but I would not be surprised if the buck I killed in November could have been the culprit on that based on the timing of when he became more regular on the farm. That “bomb cyclone Elliot” that tore up the Midwest did not spare bucks antlers that is for sure. I had 1 good hunt Christmas Eve right after it passed on the coldest night I’ve ever hunted. Out for a monster on public coming in to a standing bean field. Unfortunately a 140 inch 8pt walked past and got shot in said field by a muzzleloader hunter. That pretty much ended my late season in 1 fell swoop. I love late season....I hate late season, lol

@OscarPerez-mn3po
@OscarPerez-mn3po Год назад
What a cool set up! That blind truly was nestled in there perfectly to have witnessed all those deer meandering so naturally and beautifully 👏🏼. Do you think all those deer were bedded near to each other, and within close proximity to the beans? Just curious if they feel safe there because of the terrain, or are they just herded up because of the extreme cold. Thanks for the great content!
@jaredmills
@jaredmills Год назад
Thanks Oscar. Yeah I love that setup too. I would say 75% of the deer that night came from the direction the blind was facing, on the south facing slope I had referenced. The others came from the thicker cover closer to the blind. There's not too much bedding that's very far from those food sources on that property. I intentionally decided to keep all the food centrally located in the middle of the farm and I don't think I'll change that, it's played out very well so far.

@TravisLillyOutdoors
@TravisLillyOutdoors Год назад
How big was that bean plot? There seems to be a lot of it left standing. I am curious as to what size plot it takes to have food left for late season hunts.
@jaredmills
@jaredmills Год назад
That one was 1.5 acres, and then there is another 1.5 acres on the opposite hillside. That seemed to be plenty for that farm this year but no doubt it was supported by the green plots I have there too. It was interesting watching the deer go back and forth throughout the night between that brassica plot right there and the beans.

How many acres is your farm Jared? What’s the makeup of it as far as woods and tillable?
@jaredmills
@jaredmills Год назад
Jay- It's about 100 acres. Roughly 35 timber with the remainder either tillable, pasture, or just natural regenerative grasses right now.
@jbra2342
@jbra2342 Год назад
How many acres of beans did you plant or leave standing? Not sure what your deer density is but did you have to fence the beans off at all?
@jaredmills
@jaredmills Год назад
Hey J Bra- I planted 1.5 acres in this field and then another 1.5 acres in another spot. I fenced them off for the summer so they could mature and then took the fence down. I had plenty of other food in green sources and the deer density isn't too bad so there are plenty of beans left to get through the winter here.

Hey J Bart- It's about 100 acres total including all the open ground.
